Powerplay Choosing a side

So thanks to Saitek finally getting their shed together and almost fixing my X52, I'm back in the game. I've hardly played since Wings first appeared, so I've missed all the discussion that goes alongside the new stuff and, of course, the beta phase.

How do you pick a power? Are there massive advantages to choosing one or another based on your playstyle? Is it easy to switch down the road?

I'm about to rejoin powerplay so I'm about to choose a new power as well. The way I see it is that it does take some dedication. As the main gameplay will be affected quite a bit (which is the reason why I left power play the last time... too many interdictions xD).

Anyway, you can choose a power from your Nav menu (left menu) and then the bottom left button. The rest of your questions will probably be answered by people who actually know stuff about power play hehe.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of issues were you having witbh your Saitek device? And what did Saitek do to fix it?

Hi

The coolest and most friendly groups there is. Antal, is only 2% of all the people who play power play so its, small, tight, co-ordinated and people know each other.

There are no leaders. We do a lot of role play, creative writing and creative game play like bringing law and order to the Frontier Systems such as Takurua

If you don't know much about Antal then here's some background.
There are no slaves of any kind in Utopia. Harmful substances like narcotics are banned too. Illegal trade is closed down. The trade routes are safe as fines and bounties are increased. We overthrow corrupt dictatorships through violent protest. We arrest nonviolent dissidents (the smugglers, drug dealers, slavers, pirates of the old system) to the capital for legal due process and hopefully reintegration in to society. We enforce law and order and are at peace with our neighbours. We do not undermine their growth. We are the only power with a real purpose or vision and a 100% bounty bonus

The figurehead, Antal, makes the best simulations in the galaxy too. They call him SimGuru. He's like a Tech Guru.

Hello!

Take you time to read over the descriptions in the PowerPlay sceen - each Power grants bonuses to their pledgees and to their areas of influence, which anyone can benefit from. I chose Archon Delaine because he looked a bit angry and had a spider tattoo on his face (oh and some of the reasons I mentioned here too!)

There's also unique modules for each power - I've heard that some of them are actually quite handy. Less said about Delaine's, the better

You can Defect to any other power at any time, however your former power will be a bit miffed and will send out death-squads to hunt you. I don't know much about that either, sorry - I've been loyal from the start!

Whichever power you join, please do involve yourself in their community - check their activity threads on this forum and on reddit to to see what's going on. There's plenty of drama, campaigns and all-out war going on to keep you entertained and in my opinion this is what makes PowerPlay interesting. Do your bit and have fun!

Shameless Plug: I'll back up everything that Ben Ryder said in the above Post about Prenav Antal. You will never find a friendlier hive of coordination and harmony.

Sorry to go off topic a bit but how long did it take?

My 3 week old already failing X52Pro went off to Saitek 4 days ago, just wondering how long I'm gonna have to wait. =/

It depends on what you want:

If you want to feel some sort of RP esk attachment to your choice, then read through each carefully and see which ethos fits best with your own. Then choose Mahon anyway.

If the want the one that is going to get you them most stuff and be easiest, join ALD: A power play weapon that actually works, loads and loads of players, three or four compatible government types, laughably OP Imperial ships, stacking bounty bonuses that can yield as much money as a high value trade route, but still be fun hours later and if something goes wrong, the PP rules magically change in your favour.

Started out with Patreus, but it was too hard to fight Torval from another Imperial faction, so I joined Alliance.

I have no idea how,,, an Imperial power is supposed to promote growth for Imperial minor factions under it's influence, yet since Torval took over Haroingori, Imperial influence in the area has been trashed. My "homeworld" Imperial minor faction went from 80% control down to 10%, with a pirate faction maintaining 35% influence. Me and some buddies have restabilised the area, but another Imperial system was lost to independents, and another few Imperial systems have very low control over themselves,, all since Torval came in.

Funnily enough, I'm loved by the local Imperial factions, but wanted in almost every system since I'm with Alliance fighting Torval's forces. This actually makes for some really fun gameplay.

.... answering your question though, how did I pick? Well, no reasons related to powerplay mechanics at least.

About four weeks each time they've had it. I'm on my fourth right now.

Thanks for all your input guys. It's been genuinely helpful and very, very interesting.

Pick a power based on your play style if you are not interested in the politics of the person.

If you trade, look at which power offers you the chance for a greater reward for trading.
If you are combat based, look to which power offers you the greater reward for engaging in combat.
If you are into piracy game play, the only real choice is Delaine. :)

You can switch down the road at any time by going to another Powers Pledge tab and defecting. I wouldn't recommend doing so while you are in any system in the bubble for the current power, as you will become a "traitor" and hunted for a certain amount of time. You will also lose 50% of your current Merits when defecting.

Archon - if you're a pirate arrr!.
ALD - if you're selfish and just want all the good stuff
Antal - for the underdog!
Sirius - for the unselfsh.
Mahon - if you want to understand the power of spreadsheets.
Winters - if you like Hilary Clinton.

And I just don't know why anyone chooses any the others.
