News Elite: Dangerous will support Oculus Rift

I was searching for a release data for the consumer version of the OR but the best I could get other than 2014 was Q3.

With all that venture capital they will have to make some noise in the financial industry and start marketing the product to average joe's and jolene's soon if they plan to release next year.

They could be holding off for higher definition panels and or the mobile gpu power to drive them. As OR do keep mentioning that mobile is going to be a platform for VR.

PS Does the alpha support OR?

So is Track IR going to be in the full release? During one of the streams, it was mentioned as being in the full release - is that speculation or is it based on an official announcement?

Have to say, I'd find it most strange if OR was supported, and not Track IR - something that's been around for years. Now I've seen the game in action properly, I'm even more sure that the experience will be diluted somewhat without Track IR support; I'm used to being able to follow enemies around with my eyes, and would not want to go back to using a clunky POV hat or the numpad keys.

Not been officially confirmed by FD one way or another. But it seems likely (my opinion).

The devs have said there's "no news at the moment" about TIR implementation. Would seem a bit strange to leave it out. I know of quite a few flight simmers who are on the fence about pledging until there's a bit more clarity about whether it's going to be added or not.

Just look at the alpha footage, you already have a free-look option. So you can probably setup Track IR to map into those input bindings.

Nope. That's not how it works. ;)

Just read that post now. However, that link brings up a 404. In any case:

Sounds like you got it working as best as one can. Its not going to be smooth and precise as for games that dont use TrackIR natively. The number of quadrants and the slew rate in the TrackMapper key mapper isnt good enough for fine and fast view control in LB2. Maybe there is a way, but I havent spent alot of energy digging into it deeper as of yet.

OR users will need a fairly decent rig. I think the OR devs said that we'll need to be able to have games running at a solid 60fps or more on both screens of the rift. Track Ir on the other hand doesn't require anything too heavy - the only thing you need to have switched on is vsync to avoid screen tearing as you look around.

Very cool and all, but few people will never see, less try this feature.
From what I have seen re: Oculus Rift:yes it must be amazing (at what cost?) - BUT - I think it's too much for me.
What I would REALLY like to see, is a 3D monitor / glasses version of the Standard ED, just to give an enhanced viewing experience, which I think would be well worth having.
I Plan to replace my fairly standard Dell WinXP desktop in spring. Have in mind a new Win8.1 PC with perhaps a Sapphire 11201 3D Graphics card and maybe an Asus VG27AH 27-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (supplied with 3D Glasses).
Would be interested to hear from anyone - especially the dev team - with thoughts that could help me move forward. I'm 71, so need all the help I can get!

Well, if you think about the monitor you'll be buying, I suspect it's price will be comparable to OR?

That said, when OR is first released I wonder how expensive it will be. With the hype I expect the initial price to be high, UNLESS there is competition out there...

The game will support 3D TV (it already does for the standard type), personally I prefer Oculus, it's far more immersive.
