Powerplay How about a PowerPlay Mode? or PP players can be seen in the map.

Ok don.t shoot me or put me on your Kos list for suggesting yet another mode.
But how would a mode designed for enhanced PowerPlay sound.
Some like powerplay, others don't, for those that do they can go head to head against other powers. With the background sim effecting all modes as usual.

It would be just for those players pledged to a power only, and it would have improvements in the galaxy map for PP.
My idea is to make the galaxy map useful for planning and stratedgy in PP.

All players online in PP mode can see where other players are on the map, just a simple dot, with the colour of the power the player is pledged to.
Something similar to how you see friends now, but instead of a flag, just a coloured dot, no name or info other than that.

In this way, players can see hotspots, and take action, 20 players around one of your exploited systems, you get together and go to combat them.
In the same way you can plan and use strategy, such as diversions, or forked incursions.
You could see areas of high activity, possibly a power is making a push into your powers territory.
All this would enhance the strategy of PP, and the Galaxy map would be used for much more, and you can see and co-ordinate your power members better.

What do you think. Could PP be made more fun to play.

Edit: This is aimed more for the hard core PP players, who want to play in open, and have a more satisfying experience against other powers. It should still be your choice to join in or not.

I think another mode is a very bad idea, but then I'm of the thinking that there should only be an open mode.

I like your idea of seeing other PP players on the galaxy map to see hotspots, I think EVE had similar functionality for hotspots on it's map. I would love to see that implemented into the current galaxy map, just have a toggle box and some filters to change the settings.

while i like the enhancements of a powerplay map you describe, i don't understand if "All players online in PP mode can see where other players are on the map" means something like "All players online in PP mode" = "All players in PP mode are in open (can be instanced with each other)"?

Ah yea, there is the old issue of the instanced nature of this game. Although I don't think the player base is large or concentrated enough for that to ever be an issue. I don't think there are many systems where there are more than an instances worth of players at any given time anyway.

I was thinking all players in the new PP mode could be seen, or as suggested even a simple toggle on the map to show up "dots" for players who are pledged. I agree instancing is a problem, but it could work just as friends list flags do now, but only visible to players who are pledged. This could then work even without another mode.

I like the idea of the map change :) Please no more mode segregation though.

I've put this PowerPlay discussion in the PowerPlay discussion forum, and I have made the title a little more accurate.

Please don't turn it into an open -v- solo -v- groups wannabe.

ok fine, i added to the title slightly too, as just seeing other PP players in the map seems more popular.

i would totally agree with beeing able to see all "allied" powerplay members on the map, and sharing a common faction-chat.
just one thing is then a must-have: a law and penalties for anyone griefing/attacking someone of the same power.

Another game mode would divide the player base even more

A map enhancement for displaying hotspots (presence + action, not ambient traffic) would work easier. You don't need to see where everyone is at a given moment but you should be able to view how many Aisling commanders have visited system X and did something powerplay related for the cycle. When you see one of your systems having a high activity from opposing powers, then you'd know something is going to go down in that system (maybe someone's been raking in kill vouchers without submitting them yet or someone is blockading your fortifiers in open)

As others have said, a power-play mode would fragment the player base even further. Add in the size of the inhabited Galaxy and FD's decision to use Peer-to-Peer networking results in the rather sparse player concentration seen outside of CGs, capital systems, and other known player hotspots.

I would rather have matchmaking prioritize PP players when populating instances... with as always the caveat that network connections should take priority. While networking has gotten a lot better since I last played open, my connection/computer still can't handle too many players in the same instance.

I would really like to see pp activity (or even general CMDR activity) maps as another map overlay. Even if the scale was relative instead of absolute or historical (previous week/cycle) instead of near-time, it would give players more choice.
