Panther Clipper Captains!

I had one for quite a while and made a tonne of cash. I even flew a few recon missions in the funbus (though it was difficult to find any that it could do with its limit jump range) - skimming in low over the surface of a remote Imperial moon in a ship the size of a city block going dodging squadrons of Imp Couriers and going AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGHHH!!

Loved the Panther. Anyone else filled it with slaves over and over again from -I don't remember where- to Sol?

Personally, I see myself as a jack of all trades. The Panther is a ship I'll opt for in my retirement (when I've achieved Elite status), then I can have fun kicking back, fending off pirates, mining, mass trading. But until that time I'm an Imperial Courier guy. :)

Was shipping slaves from Vequess to Sol, luxury goods from Sol to Facece, fruit/veggies to Vequess. Oh, happy days...

Yep—I was one of the Panther Owners' Group (in a former life) myself! Ended up hex-editing some saves to generate some really odd scenarios… I think. It was a long time ago…!

The Panther handled like a wet slug, of course—turning while jousting in it was perilous, and putting a plasma accelerator in the turret seemed like a better idea when I wasn't accidentally hitting parts of my own ship with it. I’m quite sure I won more dogfights by simply having enough tonnage and shield generators to ram my opponents, because apparently I was too big a target for the average pirate to fly around!

In terms of looks and range I decided I far preferred the Boa at the top end—it looks gorgeous—or Imperial Trader at the bottom, and if I needed to do missions, using a Viper with a military drive was a strong favourite.

I'd have preferred a Fer-De-Lance, ideally. In fact, I'd love it to make a reappearance for the commander with a classic style… for an extortionate sum of credits, of course, as befits such a prestigious ship.

Hello CMDR's Johnr and AKR.
Didn't think anyone remembered the old Panther Owners Group.

Now that takes me back as I was one of the two founders, along with CMDR D.Hollis

We ran that for about three years before it went to a paper based fanzine.

Still proud of my disk artwork for that and the Atari ST program I coded to help out pilots when their docking computers were damaged in combat.

I'm still in contact with CMDR D.Hollis and yes he is a kickstarter backer of Elite Dangerous and plans to take up his old role as Panther Clipper pilot. :D

We must recognize that it will be hard to resist at the charm of this Panther clipper

It looks awesome but the scale isn't apparent on the rendering.

BTW will we be able to control turrets? Or will they be all auto? I somehow assumed we will be able to, but I haven't read anything about it yet.

See the little spec in the bottom right, that's a man for scale :D

Yes with the man in the bottom right, the scale is impressive. We understand why it takes a large crew for the Panther Clipper. An another scale relative to the Clock Tower

I do wonder if that perspective is correct. The Anacondas do not feel as large in the alpha...
Now we need someone to do slow close flybys of an Anaconda and someone other to grab a video & bunch of screenies - Sidewinder by the side, in front and partially obscured by the Annie. Then let the pixel counting begin. :)
