Newcomer / Intro Panel navigation with mouse possible?

A friend of mine just got ED for the PC, and I was trying to help him learn his way around the ship. But he was flying with just the mouse and keyboard, and no matter what we tried, he could never find a way to use the mouse to make selections on the side panels ... the mouse always wanted to steer the ship. As I have always used HOTAS, I wasn't much help to him on this. Is mouse selection from the panels even possible (via some sort of mode switch that takes the mouse out of pitch/roll control), or does he just have to bind/learn keyboard keys for movement and selection within the panels?

No mate for the side panels , if your using M&K you hve to use the WQEASD keays to scroll across and up and down, it really becomes quite intuitive after a while , hope you and your friend Fly Safe !!o7

Thanks much for the information! He's now got an X52 on order (which I think means he's already getting hooked on the game, like me), but at least this may help him start finding his way around the ship in the meantime.
