Astronomy / Space Lunar eclipse 28th Sept 2015

Lunar eclipse

Anyone else looking at it? I don't know why I am, I have to wake up for work in 3 hours.

My view of it at around 3:52am.

I just returned from the parc where i was watching the event. It's 12°C out there, so i froze my butt off (still feels numb), but it was worth it. Took more than 200 pictures before the battery of the camera was empty, they're downloading as i type this. Here's one of them:

Many thanks to you guys for reminding. If i hadn't come across this thread, i surely would have missed the event.

Here in north Texas the first half of the show was shrouded by clouds, but the haze parted almost exactly at second half. Thanks, Mother Nature, for one hell of a show!

so cool, I am so glad i got to see that, and much better than a solar eclipse imho.
the moon looks like a little glass marble hanging in the air that you just want to reach out and touch

Eh, call me a party pooper but I don't get the recent fascination with "blood moons". I lived decades and witnessed many of them before someone suddenly decided they were a thing that had to be news-spammed every time it happened. Nothing beats being in a full solar eclipse, still only ever been in one of those.

Went out of the city a little ways to watch it. It was a bit foggy, but I had a hill that reached above it and the sky itself was crystal clear. Beautiful sight. Also caught several shooting stars (counted six, two of which were rather impressive) and three iridium flares in addition to the Moon itself, so it was quite the experience. During the total eclipse, it was also dark enough to just barely make out the band of the Milky Way despite not being that far outside the city.

All in all, a night/morning well spent!

I enjoyed it very much, one of the rare times i was happy to work a nightshift. No clouds at all but freezing cold and sadly polluted by city lights.
Still, a nice thing to watch. Next time in 2033, where i live, at least that's what "they" say ;-)

Tonight I stood in the black with my kids. Staring at the sky. Freezing our butts off. Well past their bedtime. No one complained. They just said, "Dad, it's beautiful."

Would this have happened nine months ago? No way.

Thank you David Braben for giving me a family moment not to be repeated.

The recent fascination with blood moons is, doomday Sayers have been saying that we are due for our extinction today, the blood moon was supposed to usher it in. Just goes to show how stupid some people can be. I watched the eclise until about 2:30 last night, alas I missed the total eclipse.

Sky was as clear as a bell down here on the English Rivera.

Sadly, the concrete jungle got in the way and I just didn't fancy taking a chance and wander down to the local park, stark naked at 3:3am.

I'm sure everyone will understand why!

I actually managed to get up for this much to the tutting of the wife :)

Heres my effort, pretty pleased with it although I don't think I got the focus 100%..
