Do you all turn off your rigs after a session? I leave this rig running for weeks on end, it's only used for ED. Just did a restart to check - the shader option appeared.

Is it? I checked just after 1.4 went mayhem beta, and it was still pants. Did a later upgrade make any changes?

had a little cruise around last night, it definitely is fixed compared to 1.3, I avoid asteroid rings at the moment, it looked awesome in 1.4, fog is back in the systems I visited, distant roids look better, and the weird distant roid oculus glitch has vanished.

Nice video, missed that one for EDCodex.

Atm I have the following entries of you in it:
Elite: Dangerous - How to get the Best Graphics with Mods and Tweaks [Video]
How to Improve Elite's Graphics with Mods and Tweaks [Thread]
The tools your describe in the video, thread (iirc GemFx,Reshade, SweetFX and EDFx) are also in EDCodex.

I've send you an invite to claim your ownership before release of EDCodex and I thought also this weekend an extra invite (not 100% sure). Should you deem EDCodex useful it would be great if you added entries for your videos there. The video section has support for the youtube API so you can enter a playlist and it automatically shows the videos on it in the video entry. Note: you can still use the special link or use claim ownership to become owner in case you have lost the PM. Can also send it again ;-)

What is EDCodex: Its a website with a database of currently approx 215+ tools, threads, websites, videos for ED. Any one can and is encouraged to add entries there. EDCodex is and should be community-driven. EDCodex companion thread. Its equally suited for PC's, tablets and smartphones and has RSS feeds.

For me shaders are build with every boot too.
I thought that was how it was supposed to be.
It is not a problem. It does not take that long.

Shouldn't be taking a minute with a GTX970, 10 seconds tops. Btw, try the new Nvidia drivers, they work very well with ED

Hmm, I think I have those, will check later. It really takes a minute easily and it happens every time.
Edit: btw it's not a problem in itself (I'm patient, I can wait), I just thought that maybe it indicated a problem that would cause the ugly graphics, but seems everyone has those :p.

For me, it's like this:

- On approaching a ring, it looks fine, a semi-solid ring.
- Getting closer, you see tiny spaces indicating it's not a solid ring, great.
- Closer again, and straight ahead the ring seems to empty out, and is sparsely populated in a very not-random-looking manner.
- Almost into the ring, and rocks start popping in in clumps.. not ideal.

Once in the ring proper,
- Close up rocks look great. A little low-res, but that's down to the specs of my machine, no problem at all.
- In the mid-distance, the rocks have extremely low detail, like big malteasers. They look awful.
- In the far distance, they're just small white blobs, which is fine, except there's no smooth transition between these 3 types. It's big detailed rocks, small brown malteasers, faraway white dots - 3 very noticeable "bands". It's very weird and artificial looking.

That said, I did just drop into a (non RES) ring last night and it looked great. The main difference was the dust(?) which blurs the mid-distance rocks. When that's present, it all looks great. When it isn't, the lack of detail and banding between the 3 layers is very jarring.

On another note - back in 1.2 I remember being in some rings, and you could see extremely fast moving rings in the distance. I don't know if they're specific to certain planets, or if they've been removed; but I haven't seen any like that in months.

is it?

and how does FD explain the alpha cockpit graphics that gone?

This is how it looked during beta , notice that many things look better in the current version.
I do miss the old core render but it was very blocky and even if the textures look sharp it was mostly due to the lack of proper lighting and anti aliasing.

if you are talking about the altitude mesurement that was in alpha but they removed , well its good they removed that because in space there is no altitude.

Yes the xboxone is a very low power system , but the PC version is not going to loose anything and FD even said high end graphic effects are comming , hell I run my elite in 4K... so dont worry about it.

I am usually switching my PC on and off several times per evening, shader never appears.

24 seconds to compute shaders on every launch on R9280x 3GB. Is this not supposed to happen? It's difficult to get a straight answer to this.

What about AA? It not work for me (R9 290x).

I use a 290x to and can use MLAA and MSAA in the game.
When i set AA settings in the game to disabled i can then override them with AMD CCC.
Everything AA related working as it should.

My settings are 1440P downscaling (AMD VSR) with MSAA in game settings on.
All other ingame settings to the max.
Basicly a constant 60FPS except some dips in supercruise wich is a known problem at AMD's and expected to be fixed in the next driver update....should be 15.10 drivers by then.
My card is clocked at 1150/1450mhz with +30% power and +65mV.
