Salvageable Wreckage

So, I was scanning an unexplored system today, and found a field of wreckage. I scooped up at data cartridge loaded it into my hold. After jumping around to a few more systems I decided to call it a day and head back home with my scanned data and see how profitable the day was. Forgetting about the data cartridge in the hold, I entered my home starport and immediately got scanned and fined for stolen goods.

Was the cartridge stolen before, or after, I found it? According to international law, salvage is not stolen, and belongs to the finder. I want my money back. LOL!

"Legal" Salvage from other that your own hold...i.e. jettison and re-capture, isn't implemented yet as far as I know...According to current Interstellar Law ALL salvage is "stolen" and "illegal" everywhere "stolen goods" are illegal...once again as far as I know.

Legal Salvage is supposedly on the way I think I heard...somewhere?

The only time it seems you can legally pick up salvage is when a mission sent you to a particular system to get it. No mission and the salvaged goods will be branded stolen.

I've never seen a mission that involves that new salvage stuff. Have you guys? I get the original ones for Black Boxes, Military Plans, Ancient artifacts etc. But so far, nothing having to do with those Salvage areas and the occupied cryo pods that always seem to be there, and marked ILLEGAL if you pick them up.

I've taken a few, they look EXACTLY like the illegal version until you see in detail's it say's the target name without (Stolen) added to it.

I saw a few before the last update when we were still geting the kill 50 pirates and the multi stage hauling. So hopefully the more varied mission types will return later this week.

There needs to be a "salvage agent" feature that you can turn your salvage in to.

And the only time salvage should be illegal is when it is the procceds of piracy. Stuff that you find floating, or is the result of a legitimate kill shouldn't be illegal. I can understand why you shouldn't be able to sell it on the open market (it isn't yours), hence the need for a salvage agent.

I sold it on the black market for 2K Cr, the fine was 4K Cr. Oh well.

Just don't get caught then. :p

Stop trying to kill my business! :p

I hope so! All those high paying missions vanished for me when they moved us to the stress test servers. Makes sense that the Salvage missions went with them since they were all part of the same update. Never did get an answer from FD as to why they nixed all those new missions with the server move. ??? I asked the question twice and never got a response either time.

Yup, I took a few of them for something different to do after GPP3. They've all gone now but the salvage remains...

So if you have a salvage mission, is all salvage you haul legal? For instance, I ha d a salvage mission for 2 tons of rare artwork, but the instance had 5. I turned in the 2 for the mission. but found that I could legally sell the other 3 tons legally on the commodities market at 3k per ton. I wonder if I could have stopped at a few more salavge instances and still had legal salvage rights?

That would be interesting and potentially open up a whole new career path of salvaging wrecks, not just for their cargo but maybe even recovering ship components (albeit in need of a little repair) or even full ships (again needing repair and module replacements).

All salvage the contract request's will be legal, but if you'd picked up some other object(Ancient Artifact or Ocupied Cryo Pod for example) it'd be illegal.

I have yet to see a mission actually asking for wreckage- but my last fed progression mission was similar to the one you described: I had to return with 1 ton of experimental chemicals from a wreck site. It was considered illegal cargo, and needed to be smuggled back to station. Also, it was labeled a "Salvage" mission.

The ones I have taken have also mentioned legal in the title or description

We were told that there would be a NEW mission type that would involve those new "Salvageable Wreckage" sites you find scattered around systems while in SuperCruise. To date, I have still never seen one of these new missions even though there are plenty of these new "Salvageable Wreckage" sites out there among the USS, WSS and other signal sources.

I am still working with Kae and FD support on the current problem with the BB server failing to deliver high paying missions to those with high ranks. If you guys want to add your two cents to this bug report, by all means do! The latest request from FD support is a breakdown of a typical BB listing, counting up the number of missions and breaking them down based on payout amounts.

I am sure it would be very helpful to FD if we could get some additional reports from other players.

This is what FD is requesting:

Hi guys, to aid our investigation, next time you are at a bulletin board, can you note down quickly a few bits of information for me please :)

What trade/exploration/combat rank are you?
How many low paying missions are you getting? (1-100k)
How many medium paying missions are you getting? (100k-500k)
How many high paying missions are you getting? (500k-1 Million)
How many very high paying missions are you getting? (1 Million +)
How many of these are locked to you?
