Palmer Luckey Explains Why the Oculus Rift Will Cost “More than $350”

This made me giggle :)

Back on topic though.... They had me by the family jewels as soon as i put the DK2 on my head so price is pretty much irrelevant at this point. Credit card at the ready....

I could demand they send me a free one or I'll unleash Ronnie Pickering on them. That may work...

LOL i dunno, after the 23rd time of "do you know you i am?" and "do you want a bare-knuckle fight?" they might just get bored and walk off ;)

DK2 users, what is your honest opinion, is dk2 worth buying at this stage? Considering the facts that cv1 will be more expensive than dk2 and personally I cannot run cv1 in it's full glory with my current system, if I can at all. And I loved dk1, I have high tolerance on lowresolutions and screendooreffect. DK2 would be improvement for me nevertheless.

Well its due out in q1 so that means at least q2. Add another q because they won't have enough built for demand and your looking at getting yours well into the Trump/Palin presidency. So quite a bit of a wait for something that's a more expensive incremental upgrade. Yeah, id say go for the dk2 now.

I love my DK2. I have not regretted 1 second of owning it, but i have had it since july/Aug 2014.

its hard to say what is worth what as for some people £300 is a lot of money, and for others its change in their wallet.

For me tho I think the time to buy a DK2 - unless you are a dev wanting to make your own VR game - has passed. VIVE should be out a bit before CV1, and forgetting for a second what will be better VIVE or CV1, i think we can all agree it will be better than DK2.

you have waited this long, I suggest waiting just a little bit longer.... and if your PC is not up to snuff, save your money for fixing up that instead. dont forget we do not know for certain if games will continue to work after CV1 launches.
(every sensible bone in my body is telling me to sell my DK2 now whilst it is still worth something - but I wont as i cant play ED without it now)

100% agree with all of this.

Not too much of a suprise. I've budgeted 500 to spend on VR in 2016. Ready for the final product to ship. I didn't get in on a DevKit, this is a big deal and I wanted to see the final product with no compromises in tech or quality. Not really interested in anything besides Oculus. Palmer and company were the visionaries who said now is the time to do VR. Everyone else just comes across as "me too! me too! we want to do it too."

I am so looking forward to playing some Elite in VR. I do have a little envy for you DK2 owners.

It really is a game changing experience playing ED in VR.

I'd say it's almost impossible to play the game without it. Well for me anyway.

I imagine. I feel the same about my TrackIR. I've spent this year upgrading my PC. I'm so ready to take it to the next level!

really? what has he said? (I am intregued)

The only thing I heard him say was they were having nothing to do with steamVR because they do not support rift features they consider vital to good VR experience.

is that a slight dig at steamVR? maybe, or maybe it is the truth, or at least his opinion of it.
I would have sworn I replied to this earlier

he didn't really say anything all that bad, was just dismissive of SteamVR in a recent video. I really don't like the way Oculus seems to be going, ignoring interoperability with other platforms. I guess they could be focusing on the wireless headset for the future but that seems like such a waste when we have the hardware for seated VR right now and we don't even know how to design good UIs and stuff for it yet. Plus we've all seen the way the console wars go already, it's just bad news when he says stuff like "they did things we wouldn't have [so we're not going to be compatible]". I might just be reading too much into it
