Flight Assist {ON/OFF/HOLD INPUT MODE} All SELECTABLE in Systems Panel

Suggestion to make the Flight Assist in game menu toggle include ALL three options {ON/OFF/HOLD INPUT MODE} SELECTABLE and workable.

It should BE just two options in the game Functions. "TOGGLE" or "HOLD"
and ONLY when TOGGLE is enabled, as it does now, allows 'ON/OFF' to be selected with the functions menu and the flight Assist bound key to work, of course.)

That would mean having the FA ON/OFF only being visible once TOGGLE is selected

At the moment it's either 'ON/OFF' or when you exit game and configure FA as 'Press to hold ' in the game it's set to that option only.

With all three options selectable in game , it allows another tactical option and improvement to the handling of your ship, within the 'pilots reach'.

In combat or CQC the HOLD INPUT mode is most often used and preferred.
In smuggling and entering spaceships a constant Flight Assist OFF mode is used to hold a steady directional vector for a length of time; {whilst you adjust system modules on/off ie. controlling heat signatures, aligning with Landing bays on Starport Terminals; or sipping a drink!}

----------------------
Pausing the game to change, what is basically a ships control system option (which I have to do at the moment) is not very efficient (and ruins immersion as a space pilot). And in CQC, if you forgot to change it to the 'HOLD INPUT MODE' then you cannot pause the game to adjust it, unlike ONLINE or SOLO play, as you fall out of the deathmatch or capture the flag lobby.

The ESC- OPTIONS/CONTROLS/KEYBOARD settings should still set the default F/A toggle mode but ELITE would be enhanced from having ALL three options in the pilots 'Panel Systems' functions menu.

This suggestion should be easy to change and gives pilots more control and choice of a key ships operating function, it's maneuverability and gives some personal customization and tactical use.

Can you clarify the OP? It's a bit all over the place.

There's toggle and hold. What's the third option? Selectable/workable?

I'll try rewording it. Sorry for the confusion.

Whilst in the game, the SYSTEMS panel on the Right, can show the status of the Flight Assist. This is found on the ships Functions menu list, when you tab to the right. This is the specific option item that I am referring to in the following paragraphs.

The options visible are dependent on what you have set outside the game environment in the Configuration Settings.
When the flight Assist 'BUTTON MODE' is set to TOGGLE, the In-game Systems panel/Functions menu item shows two possible settings ON or OFF.

Contrary, When the Flight Assist 'Button Mode' is set to HOLD, the only option set to reflect this state is called 'HOLD INPUT MODE'.
and this setting is fixed.

What I am proposing is that these three states of Thruster Control Management be grouped together. And so the three choices for Flight Assist would be ON,OFF or HOLD INPUT MODE.

Selectable: meaning I can select each of the 3 status settings because each of the 3 settings do different things.
Workable: meaning when I select my chose option it works, as each individual option currently works at present, but with the added benefit of them being grouped in the same place. At the moment, we have to exit the game to change the control method.

Hope that is clearer. The reasons for this are detailed in my Original Post above.

I see now. What confused me was the 3 states (on, off, and hold), where I only counted two settings (toggle and hold).

I find it hard to believe people turn flight assist on/off from the functions menu. IMO, this should remain a esc->menu option and the player should have to deal with it as if it were any other keybinding (like rebinding silent running somewhere).

You made me see an error in my description.

Like you mentioned.....
I have F/A mode set as a Button 2 keybind, as it is a mere Thumb press during nearly every time I turn. Giving me positioning maneuverability when doing tight turns or dogfighting.

Its the coming out of the game using ESC just to turn this MODE off, when I want to float in a straight line in space, hands free, that is not good.

I've edited OP to refect this. Thanks, for the discussion.

Why is there any need to change the way the 'button' works from toggle/hold whilst in game?

You set it to how it best works for you and your setup, why do you then want to swap it whilst in the middle of the game itself?

Because he wants to turn FA off and walk away from the computer.

Okay, got you. Perhaps just a system on/off function then in the right systems panel. Doesn't really matter whether you have the operation set to hold or toggle (which effectively becomes an activate function rather than on/off), your option only functions if the FA is "on". If the FA system is effectively switched off then your toggle/hold button makes no difference.
