Support your local developers !

lol, i just wanted to make a thread about first, thank you so much for the work team behind this upcoming game at frontier; i really enjoyed and ''love'' elite frontier; the way that how a real galaxy like the milky way was entirely generated beyond our knowledge ( beyong the core worlds ), and that every thing was unique.... the planet size, orbit, distances, etc and so on.

that game was very immersive and intense. what i also loved about frontier is the fact of time. that yes, it tooks realistic time to make travel between points, sometimes it seems in science fiction, it seems easy to travel in space like we could say in star wars it seems they make jumps within minutes .

so yeah, anyways a great thanks to dev team, and mister braben too.

secondly,

a little question:

does any player tried the alpha in a kinda outdated computer and that it worked ?

anyone can tell me about the game working on a pc you wouldnt have thought would do the job ? :p

thank you ! :)

Here the specifications advised by Michael for alpha. It seems that players have also played with less powerful PCs with low or medium details. And welcome in the great Elite family.

I know there's been some discussion about the machine specs needed for the alpha test, as we're approaching the first build delivery I can share some of the development specs of where we are at the moment. Optimisation and performance are obviously ongoing tasks and as more features are added through the alpha and beta periods we'll need to keep revisiting it.

To play the first build released in December we're currently looking at the following:

Direct X 11
Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
2 GB System Ram (more is always better)
DX 10 hardware GPU, 1GB video RAM(my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB)

As I say we're looking to try and reduce the spec if possible through detail options and optimisations, so the final min spec for the game should be lower than that stated above, but for the initial alpha tests you'll need to be in that range.

Edit: Minimum video ram spec updated to 1GB.

salut francois

yes i love that indie aspect of FDEV and the "support your local xyz" tag

and i played alpha 1.0 and 1.1 on a 7 year old rig

Core 2 Extreme X6800
NVIDA 9800 GT sparkle with 512mb
4G DDR2 RAM

displayed on benq 1440 x 900 on high settings with 40-60fps

it worked :D

I'm not even running it on a PC ha! I am running it on a MacBook air with a non-supported graphics card (Intel 3000) with an outdated driver.

Granted, the screen does look like this sometimes:

However, I AM able to play the darn game, so I'm happy.

Have you ever watched any of the streams posted on either twitch or youtube by Kerrash called Kerrash Landing? If you have you'll have probably heard his friend and colleague commander Alien in the stream also and by Alien's own admission he has a pretty old computer but he can still get the alpha to work. So chances are that the game will work to some degree even on a fairly old system. Its never a bad idea to upgrade a bit if you can possibly manage it though.
