Exit to Desktop... ED never shuts down...

Well, this is a bit annoying mis-feature. Going to nosedive to bed, but upon "Exit to Desktop", ED just hangs there with a black screen... until I kill it with Task Manager.

Yah, it quit just fine back when the servers were having a hissyfit and kicking me offline every now and then, but now, after some hours of non-stop gameplay... it refuses to close XD

They removed logging out, and nerfed going to bed. ;)

I've been experiencing this today too. I have the standalone game, but choose to play through Steam. It's doubly frustrating because I have to force Steam to close in order to restart Elite because Steam won't open a "second" instance of the game.

Wow, I used to have the opposite problem. The stand alone client wouldn't let me second instance. I switched to the steam version and I haven't had an issue since. Very strange. Maybe it's some kind of cross up with different hardware?

It is sentient now and doesn't want you to go.

That ED doesn't close is gone for me since nearly a year now. In the original Beta days it happens quite often.
Ahh, that good old times.... :)

This has been happening to me since day one. I always have to shut down using my task manager after i dock for the night

Same issue here - exit to desktop will hang the game on black screen.
Exit to main menu - and than exit work fine.
(win7 and steam version of ED)

It may be because when you exit games in Steam. ...... Steam actually continues to run in the background. .... just a thought ???

That works ok for me but it takes ages to bring up the menu. I hit Escape and must have waited several minutes before I could hit the exit options.

Next time I'll time it.

Oh god... We should have known it all along. They have improved the NPC AI to a point where the game itself has developed artificial intelligence... I need to report this to the local police immediately before... No! I am running the ED client in the background! It knows! Quickly close it befo... 100011111000111011010110111101.

Hawking warned us this week about it , now face the concequences , we lost our control of AI

Remember skynet also started with small issues ,, it's obvious , explorer servers down ,, big issues .. skynet is taking over :D
