There are not more pirates than non pirates in open. Not even close. There is not a piracy problem in open at all. They are quite rare, gankers included. Most people are busy doing their thing, there is very little hostility at all. Even in the major systems. The "problem" is completely overblown by these forums.

And here is the third pillar of the open-pvp-only crowd argument come to call.

It's either "open has much more risk so we want extra rewards"

or it is

"There is not a piracy problem in open at all. They are quite rare, gankers included."

You can't have both.

It just takes the pirates to wise up and realize that their profession is taking a black eye from the murderer/serial killer crowd. If the pirates would worry more about what people were doing in their name, rather than trying to convince people that Open is 'fun for all, including their targets'...a lot of those in other modes that are avoiding the problems with the above, would be minimized.

Gankers are an entirely overblown problem as well. There is nothing you can do to change a solo players mind that thinks open is full of pirates and gankers. It's a delusion, it's best to leave it alone and enjoy yourself playing however you want to play.

time to put this thread to bed hear is the problem ok so in a nut shall you want ED to be online only great well I hope you going to like paying up to £9.99 a moth so next pull so and give us off line cool! so you are happy to pay £50 a year for offline? as you may notice ED team looked at the profitability of online offline and having open play and solo play is the cheapest and cost effect way to run elite. from the stand point and to keep posting this thread is pointless unless so things being the way they are I say just enjoy the game and have fun and let us have our fun

I trade in solo because it's easy as fk and no point to do it in open.

Another hallmark of the open-pvp-only crowd - "I do this to make credits in solo, but I don't want you doing it in solo."

Really guy, these twisty pretzels are of your own making.

While of course there are those who feel that Open is full of pirates and gankers, they are generally people who have been pirated or ganked, possibly not realizing that they could be.

There are probably plenty of people playing Solo who just don't want to spend their computer gaming time with others. You are absolutely correct to say that people should just get on and play however they want to play, say it myself a lot, but the problem is that some in the Open only crowd simply don't or won't accept that other people don't want to play with them. :)

Lol yes you can. Risk doesn't mean what you think it means. The fact that it's not as risky as a lot of overly dramatic and embellishing people would have you believe, doesn't mean it's not riskier or a harder than solo. Its obvious on its face why it's harder, and riskier. You guys really need to stop looking for "gotcha" moments, it's asinine.

AMEN TO THIS.

I've advanced this argument before; so have many others. It gets skirted around by the OOAs (open-only-advocates).

I was the one who said someone was twisting themselves in pretzels over an entirely different subject. Do you not understand you are talking to different people? Has it never occurred to you that people countering your arguments are not on an opposing team with monolithic viewpoints? Do you realise your not on a team at all, and neither are the people you are talking to? Do you understand that someone who comments cannot answer for every comment that preceded theirs just because they have similar viewpoints? This is just childish, cut it out.

How about we stop with the belittling & condescending language creeping into your posts? It would be appreciated.

Do you know the forum rules here? Your posts are increasingly antagonistic. Please take some time to cool off.

Look not to be rude, but I also wouldn't bother proving the world is round to someone who thinks it's flat. It's a waste of time.

Difficult in ED depends on so much more then which mode you play in. Someone in a Side without shields in a CZ playing in solo will have a much harder time then someone with a Vulture in Open.

Many things can make the Game more or less difficult, if we really want to achiev somehow 100% fairness of payout according to the challenge one faces we need some serious Maths and all that to take all factors into account. Sometimes in open you get more, sometimes in Group, sometimes in Solo, and sometimes everybody in every modes gets the same.
Were it gets really messed up is when we need to correct value the skill of others players to determine how much bonus more or less someone gets for facing them. Thats quite tricky.

Good luck with that, just like you can't get expect traders to play as fighters or learn to defend themselves in order to play as traders in open, you can't expect pirates to play as fighters in order to play in open. Both players will take the path of least resistance. It's human nature.

It certainly would help a lot and would be a very good step in the right direction.

I just think that a strict rule set that in enforced is needed. I'm too old (and maybe to cynic) to think that goodwill of humans is enough to solve problems.
