Astronomy / Space New Horizons Pluto Mission!

Really didn't expect to see this. Looks like bright sunny day down there; I've been also thinking the Sun is so small on Pluto's sky that it has to be pretty dark even when it is high above the horizon. Also - weather system, so far from the Sun's energy well?

Amazing stuff.

I had exactly the same astonishment and thoughts.

It seems rather obvious now though that the claims we've been fed about the effects of the Sun on Pluto since the 50s were wrong. Pluto would seem to be noticeably illuminated. That would also suggest its effects will be rather more than assumed as well.

I recall it being said, repeatedly that the Sun on Pluto would be just another bright star and possibly not the brightest in the Plutoian sky.

It does demonstrate that our Sun is a pretty powerful beast after all.

As you say, Amazing stuff.

That's some photo.

I guess more water has been found which is still amazing even if we're a bit spoiled by now :p

It'll either be that or that Pluto has an oxygen nitrogen atmosphere.

But the build up to what should be a scientific discovery does tend to call into question the academic integrity of NASA.
