If someone else gets the credit, it's usually because they did more damage, or just as much damage but started firing sooner.
I had a wing-mate take down the shields of an Eagle then get him down to 1% hull last night before I popped up and fired a couple of shots and got the kill
Did he stop firing before you finished them off? If you pause fire too long, then kill credit damage gets reset. If he was still firing, he most likely had WEP capacitor at zero, in which case your DPS would get more weight on the kill credit.
It's kind of a convoluted system, but if he had managed his pips better there would have been no way for you steal the kill.
Your pilot licence looks like Brad Pitt.
Also I believe the kill steal is real. It will end when people become good enough to counter-steal and just nuke the potential stealer out of orbit.
I have never had a kill stolen. And my kill to death ratio is usually around 9:1. I may know what I'm on aboutIf you learn the mechanics of kill credit, you will never have your kills stolen either.

I it looks like I simply fire a couple of shots at him as he reaches 1% hull and get the kill (Arahvhel is the target - starts at 6:32 in case the video doesn't go straight there):
.
You've got that wrong. I only steal the kills.![]()
Same in main game and some Police 'Condas can even steal your kill!
You should get 1 pt per % damage you do to their hull. i.e. 100% damage = 100 pts and down from there.
What you mean to say is, you only finish off weakened opponents. You can't "steal" a kill that was "abandoned" by a player that couldn't keep an enemy in their target sights long enough to finish the job.

You already get assist credit.
I watched itIt looks like your friend had stopped doing damage for several seconds before you finished him off. If a target stops being hit for too long, then the kill credit value resets. If your wingman was continuously hitting his target, you would not have gotten credit.
I don't necessarily think it a percentage system should replace deathmatch. Maybe make it an optional mode. Would definitely change the focus of the fight. Instead of looking for a battle in progress you would search for fresh kills. Though I suppose you still might be on the lookout for some whose shields where just knocked out.
I'm guessing the fact I'm often playing against people on the other side of the world too doesn't help matters, in that, they're often pinging around everywhere and no one really knows who's hitting who at times.
