I missed most of it. Saw Gary Oldman looking slightly uncomfortable with his George Lucas comment.

And saw the walking around the Idris "you're gonna be my best friend" (at least the audience laughed).

What else was there? I went to get some food downstairs - came back and it had finished.

Form SQ42 i want a cinematic singleplayer campaign with great missions and story.

Aye but you don't need realtime facial animations to the nth degree and a famous cast to make a good cinematic single player game.

I mean you just sit there going "oh that looks like someone, I know who is it, ooh who is it.... Oh right it's her from Game of Thrones!"

Or "oh here's Mark Hamill. =( I bet he works for peanuts"

The facial animations had a huge chunk of presentation time, in the end does it make much difference to the game? I dunno maybe it does, it's just the way Chris talked about the amount of work all that required, well I wonder if time and money might be better spent elsewhere.

Thanks - having a look..

Impressed by : Star map looked well done. The S42 stuff looks great. That cast would be unreal for a movie, let alone a game.

Not so impressed by : The actual spaceflight part - maybe there wasn't enough of it but I don't want the spaceflight to be secondary to FPS, which is sort of the idea I came away with here. S42 is a looong way away.

I think this is the issue with these conventions though. The wow factor is gone and you just can't wow every time.

The best thing that can come out of this is that CIG is given a bit of peace to get on with making the game. Time to double down on mechanics instead of flash. They need to get the baby PU out asap though. Let us play in what we saw.

I'm not the right audience for cut-scenes or cinematics /hits the escape key

It looked like some things that could make a game, even maybe a great game. But the greatest game, nope, not sold on that level here.

One of the things which irked me about the space flight (and I know it is pre-alpha and I was seeing it as a screen on a screen so maybe it affected the parallax) was that the ship didn't make me believe it was flying. there was something intangible missing from the external shots. Hard to pin down, it looked like it was moving on a screen, not flying, if that makes any sense?

So re-watched, and CR just says the Idris section was done in engine, he does not say someone is playing it. They also didn't show anyone playing it, this would be odd considering how they did show people playing in all the other demos.

It was still cool to see, some cringe worthy lines, but over all well done.

It was an impressive, professional presentation, much better than CIG have done in the past.

Regarding what we saw now, PU demo looks good, Sq42 trailer speech was meh and the Sq42 start portion they showed was tedious.
I was rather surprised that nothing from Star Marine was shown. It seems like they are not releasing it as a single module anymore, but they are rolling parts of the FPS to the PU alpha. Maybe we will get the rest of Star Marine then.

Starmap looks cool. I still remember the Orrery view that FDEV started with, and really wish they will go down this path too in the future.

I was not interested in ship sales or the referral program.

Quantum drive looks very good. Love the seamless transitions between FPS, ship, quantum drive and EVA.

I don't care much about mocap tech or actors, but hiring Imaginarium, the actors and producing 10 hours of END footage sounds, really, really expensive. Like tens of millions of dollars expensive.

So re-watched, and CR just says the Idris section was done in engine, he does not say someone is playing it. They also didn't show anyone playing it, this would be odd considering how they did show people playing in all the other demos. This was anticipated though, we know what CR wants to do.

It was in-engine, and the camera (player) was controlled by someone on stage.

I would imagine the hardcore faithful will open their wallets after that presentation. Job done :) That should bring in a couple more million dollars.

With the addition of free roam and side missions to SQ42 it won't see release until Dec 2016 minimum.

The PU Alpha has grown as well, 28 extra locations I think, most still to be added. March 2016 at the earliest.

I am very impressed that Chris held off on giving any dates (Although he looked mightly tempted at giving a date for the PU Alpha :D).

Mind linking to a time point in the stream that shows that? Because I didn't see anything that indicated that.

Joined the stream a little late. But what I saw I liked, they are not being totally open regards when SQ42 will appear, but it did say on the screen 2016, so I hope that it doesn't slip too much further.
Overall it was o.k. the presentation, a little lacking on actual progress reports, dates etc. Well certainly from where I started viewing the stream. But from the games point of view, its looking as if it will be very good.
.
Other than cash, obviously. The only really big issue I see coming is, performance. I wonder how many players backing this game, just won't be able to play it without either upgrading their existing system, or having to renew completely.
Luckily I have a pretty good system already, but come the time SC gets out there 'proper'. I'll be thinking of upgrading again anyway, so I'm not too concerned whether it runs on my current system or not. The current SC modules run fine, but the game as a whole...
I do think, for those thinking of getting in and backing SC, that haven't already, just think carefully about that, 'performance'.
.
I do think its going to be a very good title to play though, eventually. I'll keep looking forward to it. ;)

There was a part where whoever was playing it walked forward past the engine room, then Chris said something like "go back and check out the engine room", at which point the Scots NPC said the "we're gonna be best friends" line and the audience laughed. The player clearly turned around and went into the engine room at that point.

I mean sure it could be faked but if so they've really stepped up their game. Enough that if they're faking this stuff they could probably make a game instead :p

I recorded the entire presentation and it was around 1hr 51 minutes.

I'm very impressed with the PU gameplay and can't wait to get my hands on it. One thing they have really nailed is the sense of scale. The stations, the planets everything seems huge as it should. One of EDs problems is it's sense of scale, things can feel small when they're not. I really hope all the rumours about CiG aren't true because they could be onto something very special indeed.

Also, the in-system hyperspace jump kicks the out of what's been done in ED which is still a clunky and unpolished mess.
