Chase by pirate, had to drop my UA after trying to fight him. Shot him in the back when he went for scoop and proceeded to recover UA

Golly. Well done to everyone involved.
A few points:
1. With regards to the 'not needing tools' and 'solvable' in game, I still think it is IE: It's not solved yet. People have found out it transmits Morse for systems and now ships, but that is not solving anything. Who made them? Why are they here? etc. An 'end game' might be achievable by someone without ever having realised there is Morse there at all.
2. A lot of people still seem to be assuming this is Thargoids. This is pure speculation. There is zero evidence for this at this time.

Is there a summary of what's been scoured somewhere? I should be able to join in later but I'm not clear on what has been done and what hasn't.

Wow, amazing work everyone and what a journey. Congrats on the final piece too guys. This is proof the Galaxy is in good hands with you lot. I hope we have not run out of Biscuits in the tin either. RL has kept me out of game but I have followed you all daily and loved every minute of it. Thanks Mr Brookes and team, you sure don't make things easy.
Now I see a few folks saying now what? And I would like to Tin Foil speculate a little bit here.
We know the UAs scan, sytems/ships etc, but we now know what they are broadcasting.
I have said a few times over this thread I do not think it is Thargoid. I do however believe it is looking for Thargoid presence. Which makes sense. It has scanned systems (no threat to us), it has scanned ships (no threat to us). So the UAs know who we are and don't really care about us. They are increasing in frequency and that is concerning.
From an ex military view this is rather exciting. When looking for your enemy you use your cheapest and most disposable assets to scout out your field of operation. When you start getting the results you want you increase surveillance to get as much intel as possible. So what becomes the trigger that changes everything, when a ship that does NOT match your profiles shows up. The Merope link, last known place of your adversary. Outer systems with UAs. Expanding your net to drag in more intel. The increase in sightings of UAs means they are getting closer to finding what they are looking for. They have expanded the net and increased its volume.
They are waiting for SOMETHING to show up and reveal itself.
I salute you all for all your excellent work and the Novella of research that has been achieved. o7.

I can't go back through 500 pages to check if someone has already said this right now, but maybe these are the pods containing the Mycoid virus? It explains the 'spores' and such. Awesome work everyone.
Definite possibility. Been discussed before but we can't think of any way to test it.
I guess we gotta wait until the Thargoids pop up! Though what if that's what decides whether they are hostile or not?
Sorry, I was incorrect here. They contain Occupied Escape Pods and Scientific Research. Performance Enhancers and Progenitor Cells still accurate.

If it was human made, why would it scan our ships? We have access to ships (and blueprints and other tech data I presume) all over the human colonized space. Or maybe it is some very old tech and/or "stupid" probe that scans any sufficiently large piece of technology near it.
Or maybe it's looking for a particular ship or ship configuration for what reason? Who knows. Funny coincidence that the UAs seem to be interested in ships since that is the focus of the next major update...

Seems to me more like just a logical progression of collecting data. Report - Where am I? Who has noticed me?
The more of these evolution of transmissions we decode, the better understanding we'll have as to the probe's purpose. As it stands it could just as easily be assumed to be gathering intel for military purposes, or scientific/contact purposes.
Congrats MJK, well done for figuring it out! I had 99 ideas, but the solution wasn't one!
Am I right in thinking the sounds which contain the encodings of these ship scans is a new sound which appeared in 1.4? If that's correct, we still haven't figured out whatever the puzzle was pre-1.4 (was there more to it than just the Morse-encoded name of the closest celestial body?)
p.s. Michael Brookes if you're still about - any chance you could run by a UA in an Imperial Cutter, to validate the theory? Yeah.... "validate the theory"...
