99% Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52
We salute you!

One <13.76ly jump away from Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52, I'm almost certain. I was headed there (being the motherlode and all), but saw a suitable SSS one jump away, and there it was.

is ti gonna be possible to find that binary code, if the signal is not clearly delimited???
as it start sometime before the tiny descending sound and stop sometime after or during the loud one (and sometime can't even hear it)
so the binary code we get is always changing lenght :( and it's never really clear.

Are you sure about that? Because what happened at Soontill was that Ratking was simply not equipped with any scanner. I went there immediately after and scanned the system, and the planet was there, just like any other.
But your Ghost planet seems very interesting. So, you took a picture of it but you forgor to note the name of the system? Damn...
Just imagine if it was Raxxla! ;)

OK good to know about Ratking15's planet.

Yeah I'd take the whole thing with a pinch of salt. Particularly since this was during Beta.

Since I assumed Ratking15's was possibly a new 1.4 instance related thing (and clearly missed your post confirming a planet to be there), and I just assumed this might be something new in 1.4 and mostly forgot about it until today.

As for scanning, I'm primarily an explorer in ED and always fly with an ADS, so pinging a new system is as natural as throttling down when I arrive. That said, I was tailing a convoy for the first time, so who knows. It's entirely possible that I forgot to ping the system.

However, even if that were true and we assume that I forgot to ping the system, you'd think that given the size of the planet in that screenshot that I would have noticed getting that close to it before leaving SC? There was no SC planet next to the wake that I entered, but without a screenshot I realise how that sounds :)

Put it down to an unverified Beta glitch.

As for the location, it was within reach of Aries Dark Region GW-W D1-52

Operation Scour report:
Cmdr Reporting: Edelgard von Rhein
Ship type: Asp Explorer
Ship name: Lukushiyon
UA aboard: NO
Wingmates: None
Mode: Open play
Inner routes surveyed:
Merope 1 ---> Merope 2
Merope 1 ---> Merope 5/6
Merope 5/6 ---> Merope 3
Summary of encounters: One SSS of note (see Medical Transport addendum below); WSS and Salvagable wrecks common. Recovered 1 Occupied Escape Pod (from possible Cobra wreck), 2 small survey data caches, 1 trade data canister (lost a second at this site to a possible pirate Viper) and one large wreck with dozens of canisters of scrap, toxic waste and chemical waste. Scooped one canister each of chemical and toxic waste for analysis and all the scrap, in the hope of identifying the host ship.
Outer Corridor surveyed:
Merope ---> Sol distance: 1 million ls
Most of this journey (after 32.5kls) was conducted at half throttle, to reduce the risk of missing potential contacts. I was watching the Nav panel mostly and saw no *SS during the journey. Reached 722c at 1 million ls and terminated the search.
SolAheadMeropeAstern.jpg
Encounters: one WSS appeared whilst preparing to leave system after reaching 1 million ls. Entered and located single Cobra, no cargo. Target was not hostile but highly evasive when scanned.
Findings: all recovered containers were handed over to a contact at the Federal High-Tech Scientific Outpost 'Barnes Horizons', system BD+55 1142, for analysis (and debriefing/medical care for the occupant of the recovered escape pod).
Medical Transport report:
Located Medical Transport Python between Merope 1 and Merope 2, escorted by 4 Vultures. Scanned the Python, which did not react to my presence or scan. Cargo consisted of 1 Scientific Research, 4 Occupied Escape Pods, 7 Performance Enhancers, 9 Progenitor Cells. Armament consisted of 2 frag cannons, 1 pulse laser, 2 multicannons; it also carried a FSD interdictor and cargo scanner as well as defensive utility modules.
Medical transport hyperspaced away to PLEIADES SECTOR KC-V C2-10 and I pursued. Upon arriving in this system (not previously visited by me) there were no ships but I noticed two low wakes and followed one. Here I reacquired the Medical Transport, which signalled to its escorts that its mission was still go. It then proceeded to hyperspace to the Maia system and I followed. Here the group scattered but I followed the Medical Transport as it set a course for Maia B, remaining 50-100ls behind to observe. The transport continued on to Maia B 3 C where it dropped out of supercruise less than 15Mm from this satellite. When I followed, I found it had been rejoined by 3 of its escorts and it made a further hyperspace jump - back to Merope. I followed again and it continued on mission, eventually dropping out of supercruise once more - only now when I followed I saw only a brief glimpse of contacts on my scanner before losing them completely. Checking my position I discovered the low wake point placed it less than 16km from Merope A Belt Cluster 7. A search of the belt cluster revealed no trace of the convoy. After this I returned to the Merope 1 to Merope 2 route.
MedicalTransportExtendedDialogue.jpg
P.S. I have also encountered a Medical Transport convoy in the bubble in system ICZ FW-V B2-1 (barely 1 jump from Achenar). Rarity seems similar to Hafnium convoys: I wonder what else might be new (and rare) in 1.4?
P.P.S. This felt like a proper adventure! Good luck everyone else with the searching!

The 7 Sisters visit Varati

Good evening Commanders

Well, it's finally happened. I finally have my first UA!
Granted, I do feel dirty for picking up one from the recently discovered UA goldmine... but that doesn't mean I didn't feel a certain... special feeling... like seeing an old friend. Something I've wanted for a long time!
Though when I finally found it I can honestly say that the people I've met in the process are far more valuable than this thing ever will be. My very first post ever (clickhere) under my old CMDR name was on the first UA thread. The first thread also took my new commander name in this (clickhere) post. I made my frontier account just to join in the hunt :D and what a journey it has been. Only fitting that my last post be on one of the sequels!

You're all mad. I love you guys & gals.
I wish you the best of luck solving thing! As for me, I'm going to be away from the game for a good long while. Life's come up, and I can't pass this opportunity by. When I do come back I likely wont be doing much meta (no forums, no reddit) but I will definitely swing by the website from time to time. You'll mostly find me in game and on the TeamSpeak :)

Any way! I'm getting all sentimental. Screenshots for proof!

Congrats to those who have made breakthroughs
I tip my tin foil hat to all the crazy theory crafters
I bow to those who found the UA when it was difficult
A slight wave to those who have trolled us
A thank-you to the devs
Everyone who hung out in TeamSpeak today, you're legends
And a special shout out to SilentAeon; It's been fun chilling with you the past couple of days. Good luck with that new DBx!

And finally, an invitation to anyone with an honest curiosity and a heart for mystery that would like to hang out in our TeamSpeak please click here for details. Check it out! It's themed like a Capital Ship!
Whether you have lurked, contributed, or discovered, you're all in the Canonn and apart of our canon. Check out are rare good thread here!

Be good to each other!
Cheers, Commanders

p.s. So long, and thanks for all the rep!

<snip>
Might I suggest that the first step would be to try and see if we can extract the Morse from a dropped UA for a simple ship (like Rizal's sidewinder, which turns out to be only 7 "words") just to verify that the dropped UA works as expected compared to a free-floater.
<snip>

In case anyone was interested, I just confirmed that the dropped UA does the same thing as a free-floater with regard to the Morse sketch codes. Seemed like something worth verifying since there was talk of possibly moving it around to analyze wreckages a few posts back.

Checked it with a Sidewinder since it's the shortest sketch code sequence. Both free-floaters and the dropped UA yield the same code sequences.

I also stayed out of range initially to avoid triggering the scan and observed it for a while. If you target the UA before it scans you you'll still get the Morse matching your ship, but from 1.2km+ away you need to be in the cockpit view to hear it.

Still need to verify if multiple drops always start the code sequence from the same point, or if they always start at a different point (e.g. continue with its previous sequence).

If they always reset to the start then they wont be much use for ID'ing other things since the lifetime limits the sketch codes you can get back.

Edit: Actually even if it starts from the beginning it might be useful (provided it reacts to wreckages/other objects, of course). Any initial set of new codes might be enough to flag something as not being from the set of known ship sketch codes that Rizal has taken the time to generate (here).

Did someone say Raxxla?

Interesting.. I have been at Merope for a while now and I found a medical ship, Python and two vultures.. They mentioned something about the mission still being a go. I didn't follow them but instead chose to pew pew. I'll keep an eye out if and when the servers come back online. ;)

Yep, that's the convoy I followed.

Not sure if popping out by that planet it was a Beta glitch or not though, so don't read too much into my earlier post :)

Free floater that didn't point where it oughta?

Edit: skip to 3:20 if you can't be bothered to listen to it prattling on.
I just picked up a free-floater in ADR GW-W d1-52 and it points to Merope before I picked it up. I took it to Merope and it points at the star. Took it to the other side of the star, it still points back at the star.

I found the hidden planet! Aries Dark Region TE-P B6-3. I'm 717 Ls from the star, should be nothing here, but here is it.

Was in USS, and followed two Vipers and a Cobra that jumped in and then back out. In TE-P B6-3, the Cobra, Doctor Cobretti, took off, and I followed a Viper. It just blopped out of existance. Then the other one did. So I went to the wake signal the Cobra left, and boom, planet. All three ships here.

- - - Updated - - -

Cobra just jumped out to Aries XK-N B7-O. I am staying here though. No unusual loadouts or cargo on the Cobra. Didn't get to check the Vipers. I can't target the planet at all.

It just happened again, with a different system, B6-1. Was in a SSS with a UA, Vulture and two Scouts popped in, looked around, and left. I followed. They dropped near a planet, but when I dropped in, it was right on top of the planet. I think what's happening is that when we drop in their instance, it's just transporting us to whatever planet is closest.

I'm gonna stop talking to myself now...

Though mainly a lurker on the thread, it was good to know you the little I did CMDR. I enjoyed seeing your contributions both on here, and the reddit. I'm happy to hear you were able to finally acquire an UA, thanks to the update, I was finally able to get one as well. They are a sight worth seeing in person, just fuels the mystery with eager anticipation. Good luck in your new venture, fly straight, and always keep your stick pointed in the right direction! o7

AWWWW !! Now im really upset - sorry I got pulled away from the teamspeak (after i finally figured out how to get in). Best wishes to you on your new endeavor !!!

I know, right? This makes for a very bittersweet weekend. Bon chance, Derthek and thanks for everything o7

Hello CMDRs, it is with great joy that I present you the full definitive sequences list, for all the ships ;)
I must say I had to manually make some slight corrections to some coordinates that were surely wrong, making the ship awful sometimes. The Cobra is an example.
The dropship(s) is/are completely wrong: but there is one drawing for all the ship versions.
I still don't know if it is my mistake in translating the morse, or an original mistake from FD while "creating" the sequences. Even the 5 letters sequences were an error, in my opinion: I manually added what I think was the correct missing letter.

I've highlighted my corrections in bold.

Vulture and Diamondbacks the most detailed ships, Cobra and Sidewinder the most "Vintage", special mention for FdL and Viper.
Worst drawings: Python and Dropships.

All I did, I did for Science! (...and for a signed artwork from David Braben...) :D

Great work! I've updated the html page to include these ships as presets so they can easily be seen and modified: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1402878/UA_draw.html

Edit: forgot to ask, is the Imperial Eagle the same as the Eagle?

Skills ;)

Strikes me as odd, given the high precision with which the UA was previously able to identify systems and bodies, that many of these models (however amazing they are, and they are!) are somewhat child-like.

I think, like a few others, these are a demonstration of awareness - of learning, and a desire to learn, about us.

Not arguing that the data isn't being broadcast somewhere (most likely Merope, given the pointing, but could be anywhere) but I'm not sure it is as sinister as it first appears.

It's telling us it can *see*.

As for why there are suddenly loads of them, though; that's a little unsettling. How are they getting to Aries Dark Region. Curious indeed!

From what we've been able to determine so far I think this is possible, if not probable. In my mind, the most likely scenario is that these were created by INRA. They are scanning for a specific type of ship. Thargoid ships. Perhaps they have determined that Thargoids are making a resurgence and have created the UAs to look for them and disable them via the Mycoid virus. It makes sense once you consider the use of Morse.

Same answer as above. Also, I have a feeling the reason that they point to Merope is because there is an INRA base there somewhere that will become apparent in the Horizons launch. Perhaps the increase of UAs in specific systems is because there is where INRA believes the Thargoid incursion will be, or at least in that region.

- - - Updated - - -

I just had another thought. 1.4 also introduces salvageable wrecks. I wonder if one of these might be of non-human origin and dropping a UA in there might provoke a different response from the UA after it scans the wreck.

Pardon me, I don't believe I've posted here before. Still, a suggestion along these lines. I do not believe that INRA has the technology to create these devices; they seem organic at least in part, and creating an organic probe seems an unlikely event, given what I remember playing the older games. Also, the Mycoid organism aggressively attacks certain kinds of plastics, some of which are found even in 50 year old ships. Thargoid technology makes even heavier use of these kinds of polymers than human ships, explaining their intense vulnerability to it. As such research was strictly controlled in a facility in the Hotice system (which to my knowledge no longer exists in Elite Dangerous, along with many other interesting systems from FE2 and FFE).

The INRA also developed a Mycoid Missile by the time of FFE 50 years ago, so it stands to reason that must have the same weapons available now. A trojan horse system makes little sense when you have the means to directly deploy it at will. Mass produced biological weapons would surely slow down any Thargoid fleets if they showed up.

Finally, there's little reason for them to broadcast a wireframe of a nearby human ship via morse code. A proper human satellite or device of some kind of this nature would likely have a database of ships on hand that would then be transmitted via encryption to a particular source, probably a military base.

However I don't think the Thargoids made this device either. By and large the device does not closely resemble any previously observed Thargoid structure. It does *vaguely* resemble the Thargoid space station in FFE, but it's not a completely close match. Furthermore, the materials the Thargoids use for there ships, while very different from ours do have certain similarities when it comes to looks. This devices looks wildly different just from a materials standpoint alone.

I think that it is perhaps instead a product of ET Race #2 that has been hinted at for for a while now, however, I can't fully explain why at the moment...if for no other reason I am completely exhausted right now. But, it's a gut feeling.
