ups. 1400 years soudns better1895 is the year of the first transmissions as far as I can see.
Thanks for correcting me. I will edit the post.
Hate to burst the bubble - but the kind of transmissions used for Morse from then would be too dispersed to be able to distinguish from background radio noise beyond only a few LY out. And that's assuming they could escape the planet's atmosphere, which they almost certainly couldn't - shortwave & longwave travels so far because it bounces back down to the planet surface off the ionosphere.
That's not to say you can't propagate it through the ionosphere, but, because of the low power of the transmissions we're talking about, the inverse square law means that after a decent distance, the signal is too weak to pick up.
That said, attempts were made (see previous thread I think, or earlier in this one) to send signals into specific areas of space at high enough energies that they could be picked up 1000s of LY away - starting from the 1960s I think (the Russians did it first). However, they didn't contain enough information to learn the entire Morse alphabet.
Finally, though, if you happened to be parked just outside Earth around this time, then it would have lit up the sky with RF...
New article about the Canonn. Mike Juliet Kilo is famous

I think that this shows that these player interaction things like the UA are really good for the game, good to generate community and good to generate press. FD, please do more of this!
Just wish the news articles would not copy-paste from galnet![]()
You are probably right. We are looking more at the period after 1957 (Sputnik 1).
As FD insist on calling the UA an AEO, there seem to be a connection to the Apollo misions as well.
AEO was the code used for the Apollo Earth Orbit charts.

So, on the topic of Morse code and the significance of Merope...
Can someone with more knowledge than me work out how many light years that Morse code would have traveled across the galaxy in the time between when it was transmitted on Sol and when the objects arrived (within a year or two would do fine).
We would then have a vector, extending the line from Sol, via Merope, to "some place" according to the distance those signals traveled in that time.
As I said few posts ago I'm almost sure that the new ships will hear the morse of the most similar ship: the Imperial Eagle will receive the morse of the Eagle.
The Assault Ship and the Gunship will hear the morse of the Dropship.
People in the comment section are going bonkers about that scanner you have in the cargo hold
Priceless.
The Black Market on Jaques was offering 150,000 credits for it. Not selling it at the moment.

Anything less than 240,000 is a rip-off (and you don't need a blackmarket, even).
Is there an explanation or starter-post for what this latest UA breakthough is and what people did? The Galnet article is useless, and I've been skimming back through hundreds of messages here and there are so many different conversations crosstalking I haven't been able to figure out what actually happened. :-(
