CQC CQC is a joke.

CQC rank, like all the other ranks is not a measure of skill it is a measure of how much grind an immortal who cannot die is willing to spend in four different categories of skinner box.
Elite used to be a game to get completely sucked into, be your commander and blaze your own trail in a universe that is hard and unforgiving. That atmospheric is gone now and most of us kickstarter backers have either finished mourning it or just moved on.
Does CQC require skill? No but it makes a difference, persistence makes more of a difference, like the rest of ED.

DRAMA!! Early kickstarter backer here, love the changes, love the game, more great things to come. The games atmosphere hasnt changed.

Glad you love the changes. They have changed the atmosphere for me. No drama - I still play and enjoy it. Just a very different game that's all. I do think FD apply special attention to bringing all the elements together to create a specific atmosphere, and I don't think it is random that the atmosphere has changed I think it is too coherent a change to be random, it reflects clear design choices and skillful implementation. Personally I would have chosen a different direction that plays to the unique strengths that Elite brought to the gaming genre. That FD have decided to make an Elite-ified version of a generic modern MMO rather than try to sell a more niche product is an understandable choice considering the target audience of younger gamers.

I still think Elite is fairly niche, and as for the taget audience, continual development of the game wouldn't be possible without bringing in new players. Trying to please us grumpy old buggers and please new players is not easy task, but I think they are doing a good job. The game is getting better, and I'll keep playing as long as they support the game. :D

or can kill faster wins.

I stopped reading there.

How can it be anything but in a game about killing your opposition.

Who can make each other smile faster?
Who can make a pizza faster?

Who can come onto the forum and whine about it faster?

You didn't win that one either btw. You're not the first to not enjoy the mode, you won't be the last. Others, myself included, do.

Just saw Isinona's newest video. I'm a big fan of his fine videos but this time I stopped watching after about 1 minute. I obviously can't even stand just watching this nonsense. My only hope is that it never ever will be connected to the main game in a way that I would have to play it...
Maybe I've just played too much ego-shooter in my youth, so not CQC's fault that I'm just sick of it. I wish all the kids loads of fun with CQC! :D

Last I checked I'm not a goat and don't like climbing mountains, silly stereotype ;)

PP was a fail.
CQC seems to be better than PP. CQC will most probably suffer from heavy grind, like every other mini-game in ED. Sad.

I think CQC needs skill, but it is not your aiming skill that is measured.

You can disengage, but it is not easy, imo it is very hard actually. Do you need skill to escape, or is there "nothing you can do"?

Is it matter of luck in most cases, or matter of positioning yourself?

Stealth and boosts, without too much experience, I would say that these can be removed from the game. I know these wont be removed, but these are OP atm., I would even say that game breakers. I took a weapon boost, and happened to be so that there was 3 opponents in the same pile. I killed them all, very fast. I felt, that this should not be like this.

Stealth is also OP, because it is.

Boosts, no thank you.

Same, and totally agree.
To say there is no skill involved is just, well.. ridiculous.
Flight skills, situational awareness and strategy are key to winning.
It is not just a question of piling in and kill or be killed.

CQC needs to have a ranking system, or Ranked Queue, that is based on ELO or another system, THAT would be a challenge.

Not "I played x amount of games poorly for a very long time so now i'm elite."

i think you know that's not true

I'm in my 20's and find myself able to very easily beat anyone younger than 16.

I think most people would agree that the age of pro gamers typically sit between 17 and 24, this is where people really shine. This is also true in most sports - it's the prime of our lives. Which is sad considering how long we live for :(

ELO exists, but agree a ranked mode would be cool. Anywhere I can prove to everyone how bad I am at flying in this game is good to me.

Played CQC during the stress test for an hour to give it a go. I finished first or second almost every time. No skill involved. Just find and kill. If you get hit; get killed as fast as you can, respawn and get behind someone. pew pew

COMPLETELY BRAINLESS and now I have a sigil I CAN'T TURN OFF for the only reason to make you feel bad because you don't play their mod. FD's vision is the only way and they won't care what you think.

When the argument is that you can have a fair fight; it is not fair at all because it is all about luck really; the most time you manage to sneak on someone's back the most kills you get. Ships are basic as hell and the customisation will only end up with everyone getting the bigger ship they can get but even with he biggest ship if you get someone behind you you are dead 90% of the time and if you run well you loose too much time so that's not worth it either.

Such a bad MOD; Well done FD, keep breaking the game and not listening to the community !!!!!

Listening to some of the community you mean. It's funny how the people who against CQC seem to think that the rest of the community agrees with them, not to mention the vast majority of players who don't even use the forums.

Once you are in someone's sights it's difficult to shake them off. I've only managed to elude people a few times, and I find that sticking in groups (TDM) and being close to structures helps sometimes. I decided to spend a few TDMs just flying around to see what happened. Managed to get to level 3 without breaking a sweat (not sure if XP also relates to CQC rank, though, only kills).

Sure that is exactly what FD is thinking and because customers who don't ask much like you that the game will never go anywhere where it should. They also throw 100 000 dollars in a bogus tournament to promote the game but would not care investing in worthy updates instead. It is all marketing for an atari game disguised with nice graphics.

As sad as it is, i have to fully agree with you. Frontier already said few times at beta and right after game release that they will listen to community for new proposition but its HIGHLY unlikely they will add anything of it as they already have a set plan that they will focus on. So CQC was planned from the start and from what i can tell ( the speed of development and what is happening in Galnet ) they have plans for the next 5 , 7 years. They treat Elite as it was only space sim game on the market and people will focus only on their project, which is incorrect.

I just wonder how suprise they will be when they will add huge update about aliens in around 5 , 6 years and barely anyone will care of it.

I don't read but ACTUALLY yes, CQC Is a joke.
Only 4V4 (LOL.) and no CLOSE QUARTER, it's slow, it's always on a "empty space" en we have no collision damage.

Is this a carebear pvp?

You know, I'm tired of people who have barely played the game claiming it's impossible to escape from being attacked from the behind.

Here's a video I recorded from a recent team deathmatch.

For those who can't be bothered to watch, here's a rundown of what happens.

0:38 - I attack a Condor from the behind. He gets away.

1:05 - I attack a Condor from the behind. He gets away because I'm attacked by two of his buddies from the behind. I kill both of the attackers with the help of my teammates.

2:10 - A Condor with chaff makes me use manual aiming.

2:48 - I attack a Condor from the behind. I'm forced to break off because his buddy attacks me from the behind. I kill the attacker.

Condor pilots are unbeatable aces, by the way.

3:26 - I attack a Condor from the behind. He's saved by timely chaff use and his buddies distracting me.

3:52 - I attack a Condor from the behind. He's saved by skillful(sorry, lucky) flying and his buddies attacking and destroying me.

5:00 - I kill someone who's attacking me from the behind.

6:25 - I'm attacked from the behind. The attacker dies.

6:47 - I attack a Condor from the behind. He gets away by boosting and picking up a stealth powerup. I'm forced to rely on manual aiming and I don't hit enough times to finish him off. But since neither aiming nor evasion are about skill I'm just unlucky I guess?

9:12 - I'm fighting the same guy from before. He gets away again. But it can't be skill. Luck I guess!

I finish with 10 kills and 2 deaths in a 10 minute long match. Pure luck.

There's no skill involved in this complete joke of a game. Once someone attacks you from the behind you'll die in seconds so no use even trying. Might as well let go of the stick and accept your fate.

Haha, if you think that I (and others who also enjoy CQC) don't ask much, then you have no idea. It's not a bogus tournament, it's a real one. I honestly don't understand the people who say the game is empty and basic (which I guess is what you're inferring with the Atari reference) I, personally, just don't see it.

I totally agree ! Its exactly like that. I'm disgusted that its linked in any way to the real game. I'm fine for CQC to exist but it really is a separate game. Having a crappy extra rank in the main game should be removed asap !
Gazmoid.

Came on here to see if I was doing something massively wrong. Short answer, nope. CQC is nothing to do with skill, or knowledge of game mechanics. It's whoever is the higher level and or can kill faster wins. But don't let that fool you, no skill required.

Here's a copy paste from Fia, and seems to be the common consensus with all players in CQC.

"Once someone starts hitting you it is pretty much over in seconds. You can try running and dodging behind cover, it sometimes works, but generally you are as good as dead. A little practice however and you get quicker at killing others before they get a chance to target you."

This makes CQC not only a monster waste of time, but a joke as a game mode.

2 seconds after your shields go down, you're dead. Nothing you can do about it, no amount of dodging, erratic maneuvers, or flying by the seat of your pants will make it any different, and your shields go down in .3 seconds as well. So its basically go in hot, Yolo the out of the closest enemy and repeat when you inevitably die instantly after.....

Yea, no thanks... Crap game mode at its core.

Why can't the fights last longer like in the base game? Having time to actually target modules, and components of your enemy, knowledge and good calls on adjusting your energy outputs between shields, engines, and weapons, and knowing when not too, all while menouvering, and keeping tabs of things.. that'd take skill, because depending on the situation, depends on what you focus, how, when, and why. Skill + knowledge of your ship, and how the enemy is fighting.. That's what it should be about, not insta gibbing the closest thing you can until you eventually die.

Example: The enemy ship is firing lasers, they're engines are damaged, but their shields are holding, common logic may tell you to focus their power supply, but you realize their heat sinks are damaged, and focus that instead, causing them to over heat their lasers and by pass the shields entirely forcing them to kill themselves...

Knowledge of game mechanics, your enemy, etc. just won you that fight, not who can blast away faster.

Edit:

People seem to be under the impression I suck at CQC. I usually get first or second place on my team, and win, but it doesn't change the fact that I think everyone responding to this thread is in la la land thinking they survive because they have skill. It's really not.

From what I've seen, everyone who attempts to get away and does, only did because of either luck, or the follower got caught up with something else. Nothing more, nothing less. If I don't want a guy to get away, he won't. First hour, lvl 1, against players lvl 25+ and I was killing them easily without them being able to get me off them... How can you say it requires skill when I'm able to do that at lvl 1 and not having touched ED in 5 months prior?

It's easier to live longer when your ship is upgraded too, but.. again that doesn't = skill required. I just went 2 games in a row without dieing once.. but its due to my ship being upgraded, and slight situational awareness, again, not really skill. It's just me not being a complete moron. So equipment + not being brain dead = auto win? seems to be.. but that's not how it should be entirely..

"Learning" how to turn your ship quickly to attack someone on your 6 is easy as hell and common sense, which will result usually in you blowing each other up. But again.. you didn't get away did u? Nothing you can do to disengage from a fight, or run if your shields are low, unless they get caught up or destroyed themselves. otherwise, nope.. you're not gonna get away. Most you can do is turn around and kill them at the same time they kill you.

I've never had an enemy get away from me if I ddin't want him too.. ever... I also never got away from someone unless they either broke off themselves, or got caught up with something else.. but that wasn't because of anything special I did..

Sorry I'm enjoying ED less and less with each update. I had a plan to get to Deadly before Christmas but I've just lost interest now there is an extra rank in the main game relating to something ( CQC ) that simply sucks , oh and the game dynamic seemingly changing on FD's whim.
