Is switching between open and solo play to gain new missions considered a punishable exploit?

Hi.
I would just like to know if switching between solo and open play (quitting to menu) after accepting missions is considered a punishable exploit or not, or whether it's fine to do this.

Edit: I'm aware that in general switching games modes is fine, this thread is in regards to accepting missions on one mode, quickly switching and so on until your journal has a massive number of missions, netting you a much bigger profit.

Kinds of in the 'gray zone'. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Some (including me) consider such an "exploit" (in some sense of the word), but not all.

Source?

Admittedly Its a little gamey but when this was asked to support regarding switching to gain decent hi-res instances we were informed by support "that it was fine to switch between modes when ever you please".

Where do you draw the line, should you not be able to switch modes to avoid pirates, to avoid people hogging a landing pad etc etc. Its a can of worms that once opened leads to a threadzilla merge!

It's fine, mode switching is part of the game - despite some not liking it.
Check the last link in my sig (Wall of Information) to find out more about it.

As long as it is using them menu and not pulling the plug while in combat - you can jump modes as and when you like.

absolutely not.... a punishable exploit

but imo it is an exploit, it is certainly cheap and i hope it is fixed at some point. (mode switching is not an exploit in any shape or form.. what is cheap (imo) is using it to get 10s of millions in missions)

it is no worse than doing the mass locking in wings exploit or the trade warping using nav beakon lock however. both of these were exploits, both were eventually fixed and no one got in strife for it so if you choose to do it you are safe.

(really it is no worse than cycling res sites for targets)

I have to laugh openly at people that forget its a game, it is meant to be fun. Do whatever makes it fun for you and don't worry about others. Of course that is only true as long as your actions are not directly effect other players game play.

I think it is an exploit, but I don't think it should be punishable. I can't imagine how it could be possible to rank up with a navy without abusing it. Some things should go back to the drawing board and that is not the player's fault.

but but but what if you have more money than I do?

Not exploit IMO, but workaround for another terrible placeholder.
A lot of things in ED need to be more persistent and less RNG-based. And while everything is still RNG-based retrying RNG roll is the only way to get what you want... if anything there should be such button in UI instead of relogging...

People are getting too hung up on the first part of the op and not caring about the second. Mode switching is freely allowed (unfortunately) but, rapidly doing it in order to reset the missions is definitely unintended gameplay. Whether the devs will or even can punish you for it is a different story. However it's not as cut and dry as some people say, so watch out doing it.
