Using X52 HOTAS Suction Cups on my desk. SPIT, water, what to use?

Title says it all. I am using a non glass, somewhat textured wooded dest that works 80% well with my flight controller x52 sticks.

What do you guys use to secure them? I can't use something permanent because I need to take them on and off the desk area. For the time being, I've just been spitting on them but honestly lol, that gets tedius and is kinda gross.

What do you guys use?

Thanks!

I use Velcro.
It is an old, crappy desk, so I don't really care if a little residue is left behind if/when I will need to pull the bottom half off.
I pull my joysticks up and leave behind 4 small felt pads... clean and flat enough for a typical work area.

I temporarily bolt my X52 Pro to my desk.

I have drilled 4 holes in total (5mm), 2 for each stick (these are small holes that dont effect anything else when sticks are removed).
Borrowed some threaded bar, nylock nuts and large washers (all M4) from work and made some custom 85mm M4 bolts.
4 M4 butterfly nuts and large washers make them pretty quick release.

All in all, 2 minutes to swap between Keyboard/mouse to Throttle/Mouse/Stick.

I havent actually bothered to use the suction things on my X52 Pro, the things seem heavy enough anyway. They dont budge. Guess it depends on the amount of friction and your playstyle.

I use a plastic tray, i then put it either on my desk or lap, i leave the x52 stuck to it , i just cover it up when not in use and move it out the way.

I use those non-slip plastic shelf/drawer liners used in the kitchen. They come in a roll. My X-55 was sliding all over the desk until I put one of them underneath and now they are rock solid. Next I need to find one in black to match the controllers! Maybe the drawer liners for Craftsman tool chests might work.

Get some dish-soap and thoroughly clean the cups with water, and then put a 50/50 mix of dish-soap and water on the cups and press down.

Mine hasn't budged since.

My desk is not suction cap friendly so I removed the caps and instead I've got 4 large lumps of blu-tack in the corners underneath of the flight stick and throttle unit of the X-52 Pro. Once you give them a bit of a pressing into place you'd think they were bolted down, its cool too because it doesn't leave any mess, the trick is using the right size of lump or ball, too small and things will start to move around in the middle of a dogfight :)

blu-tack has become very useful since I starting playing ED, it also helps me keep many of the wires around my desk exactly where I want them so they're not getting in the way. The x-52 also has that strange resistance near the top and bottom of the range on the throttle so you really need to have things secure or it just start moving around all over the place.

The velcro idea is a good one, nothing un-sticks industrial velcro - short of priseing it apart. Mounted my X-52 on monitor pole mounts attached on my chair and it's rock solid. Doesn't involve invasive work on the controller base and looks tidier than duct tape.

I tried the suction on my old desk : Does not work. Even it makes it worse. Instead of holding in place it makes it slide...

So I just took them out and just use the friction pad that is already under the bases... Works like a charm.

Hi all - Hey Spam, could you post some pics as i want to do the same. I have found some bolts on web >>
http://www.accuscrews.co.uk/cap-hea...e_shopping=1&gclid=CNbY65D0v8gCFUKVGwodpV4Dkg

do you think these would be ok - My base is 15mm thick so 85mm might be too long (although i could cut them down to size)!! thx

I use a X55 wich only has rubber meaning i am shouting swearwords everytime the stick or throttle moves around.
I haven't gotten around to modifying it to fix that problem though! Be glad you have sucktion cups!

I put these on the bottoms of my X55 (each pad cut into quarters and then a cutout to go around the stock rubber pads): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SL0KJM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll post a picture of how I have it cut later today, but it really helped even out the bottom (no wobbling) as well as providing a lot more grip than the stock rubber pads. They can still start to lose grip after getting dusty, but a quick wipe with a damp cloth gets them grippy again.

I currently have them mounted to my chair, so the pads are not necessary anymore, but you can still see how it is cut like an "L" around each stock rubber pad at the corners. http://i.imgur.com/5B4PadZ.jpg
