Elite Dangerous: Horizons - How to Make a Real World Livestream on our official YouTube Channel 7PM BST 14th Oct

QUESTION :

Just watched the stream guys, good show, but just one question:

It was stated that only the planets that can be landed on would be enhanced in 2.0, which as stated is about 61%, will that not make the other 39% look bad and be immersion breaking?

Question:
If a player falls through the map of a planet, when they are on said surface of said planet, is there or will there be something below the map to catch you? or will the player just fall forever?

Hah! Good question. Your ship does take off and follow you if you get too far away, but if you fall to the centre of the planet...

We're going to need caves. Big, DEEP caves.

Thanks for the stream. The planets look awesome! Tried to ask a Q, but the comments were flying by, so here goes.

Is it conceivable that you could return to a planet that you'd previously visited, and a new impact had occurred
since your last visit?

I guess what this question boils down to is, does Stellar Forge create the galaxy and then it remains static, or do new events happen which could change a planet's surface? If the former, are there plans (however far ahead in development they may be) to implement the latter? Cheers!

"Horizons" just opens up so many questions and possibilties... the planets in the bubble I'd imagine would have pre-discovered features so mountian ranges, valleys and plains would all have names?

DBOBE did say on a stream a while ago that they've not been tweaked, so it is possible to get stuck

I missed that, good to know! I guess I'll have to get all the "ramping off the edge of 1km deep canyons" out of my system during Beta! Unless someone sets up "Buggy Rats".

Extremely cool livestream guys, many thanks..C:

A question. Do you have a LoD strategy, so that popping is minimized while you are moving closer to the planet? How do you intend to tackle this?

I just saw the live stream ... and I must say

It sucked in so many ways !!!

... that there was still no start of the beta test announced!!!

No, seriously. I loved it!
If you guys manage to make the stuff we saw in the stream playable, I will be so happy with rocky and icy planets for a while, I promise not to ask you for an overhaul of the rest of the planets in at least 1 month!!

no, seriously. Awesome work! Don't miss keeping us up to date! xD

I can't get over the scale. You see something and think "ah ok, tha's a reasonable size", then you realise the camer is a a long way out and it's freaking huge!

They said they had some tricks to deal with it. We also won't be cruising 1-2km above the surface at 8km/s I don't believe, so it shouldn't be as apparent as it was in the stream in some of the videos.

we need one of those planets to zoom out from a banana model ( for scale ), all the way to the present orbit cutout distance

Well that goes way beyond what I was imagining technically. Even after seeing last weeks video I was worrying it might just be noisy height maps. Fantastic. And nebula rises!

As an explorer who just enjoys pootling about looking at sunsets and stroking my (imaginary) beard about the planetary data this is a dream come true.

I'll probably spend the rest of my ELITE time just looking for the perfect holiday snap.

Really enjoyed the livestream. Was great seeing how far your work has come and I bet it was fantastic being able to show it off at last.
So looking forward to traveling around on all these wonderful pieces of art.
