... does not mean that I can not criticize the bad solutions. ....

You sure can, where are "bad solutions"? I'd like to comment on them myself.

All I can see in this thread is the genius way FD decided to handle the topic of "griefing" without having to employ GMs to police their game.
Letting players choose who to play with themselves solves all those "griefing" issues, as each player can just move modes and not see people they do not want to see.

So want to link me those "bad solutions" please, so I can go comment on them.

Path of least resistance is only an issue in games when the players see obtaining the reward for some activity as more desirable than actually doing the activity. If players are doing so in troves, it's a clear signal that the activity they are avoiding is either just not fun, or else it's already overrewarding. Or both.

Games are about providing joy to the people. And players instinctively know it. Any time devs try to make players do things they don't enjoy in a game, be it by forcing the players or by providing too tempting rewards, trouble arises.

And, BTW, unwanted player conflict falls into the non-enjoyable category for a very large number of players.

Rewards can never fix it. The only workable fix is to actually make both running escort and having escorts fun activities.

Otherwise, players will find ways to cheese out the rewards regardless of any restrictions the devs attempt to add.

everything u said is just countered by sothis.

Some people find it boring as sin

some people like it

but everyone is doing it.

I don't understand what's the problem with mode switching. There is no logical reason not to allow it. Switching modes is a good way to bring more players into Open - it helps all players in Open Mode.
Why is it so hard to understand that some players want to play in Open Mode and in Solo mode depending on their mood without having to "grind" for two CMDRs?

The accusations of using "exploits" is really absurd and only shows the mindset of the accuser. Some players play this game because they want to have fun playing the game and not because they want to beat other players or think that it's about getting more cr. than an other player.

And btw: The difference between Open, Solo and Private Group Mode is the matchmaking and nothing more. It's only the number of other players a player can see in an instance.
Solo Mode: only one player
Private Group Mode: up to 32 players who all got invited into that private Group by the player who created the group
Open Mode: up to 32 random players

The main difference between Open Mode and Private Group is that players get invited into Private Group Mode. By using anchor wings something like a "private instance" can be made in Open Mode. In the end the difference between Open Mode and Private Group Mode is only a theoretical difference. Instancing and time zones have the same effect in Open Mode.

Not allowing mode switching won't change anything. Blockading won't suddenly work, there won't be more players in an instance, there won't be more "soft targets", there will still be ways to avoid other players.

Did anyone else hear a giant whooshing sound after they read this

Ok for me it didn't work...if they cancel Open right now, I will not miss it.

And even in Solo exist Matchmaking...with NPC !
And about the exploits .. ok if you like it, that easily each User can avoid danger/ship/credit lost by switching to Solo/Group, and later back to open to show that they are so cool Elite in all 3 Fields.
I know ...solo player not so experience in Open as Hardcore open player, BUT with 100 Million Credits, its easy to pay the Insurance and learn ...and in worst case, back to solo for a while.

I can earn a lot of credits in Open Mode without getting into real danger from an other player. Earning credits doesn't matter, getting 100 Mcr. is just a matter of time. It doesn't matter how an other player in Open Mode got the credits for the ship that player is using or how often that player can pay the insurance.

I don't know if the CMDR in a battle fitted Python got this ship by trading in Solo Mode or by smuggling, bounty hunting, trading or exploration in Open Mode - and I don't care. The only thing that is important for me, if that player interdicts me, is how good am I and how good is the other player.

The ranking Elite is only an indication of how much time somebody has spend playing the game. It has not that much meaning for me.

Just read the XB1 doesn't get private groups at all
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=191853

I knew it was that way for the beta, but wow, just WOW.

If this game was Solo or Open only on PC I'd not have bought it.
I've had no interest in NMS as it will release as a single player with multiplayer to follow at some point and SC.... I'll think about when it comes out.

I feel really bad for the XB1 crowd now :(

Saw this weeks ago...<shrug>....no private groups=no group PVE mode. Design choice (fixing a 'problem' the devs didn't want to occur in the first place) or Xbox limitations? Choose your Tin Foil Deflection Beanie and carry on!

but everyone is doing it.

Nope. I heard about it a week ago. About the millions to be earned. I'm not a super rich player, more credits would be nice.

I kitted out a Dropship and headed off exploring.

Money is a means to an end, but what end are people after? Fully kitted Anaconda? Meh. Then what? Ill think about money more when they release the Beluga.

I'm considering levelling up in fed rank for just this. Can you post a screenie of the view out of the cockpit? (forward and sidewards)

Never mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJY7T6qKtCg :)

And how much grind does a cadet have to do to gain the level of Midshipman? Which sounds ridiculous by the way.

It was supremely easy for me actually. I was somehow already allied with the whole federation (no idea why, must have been because of community goals and combat zones or something), so just bimbled around Fed space doing missions for a few days. Went from zero rank to Chief Petty Officer in about 3 days (about 10 hours play) (and this was after the 1.3 progression nerf, but before 1.4 hit).
