I gave up about 7 years ago. I found the first week or two were a bit difficult, it was just breaking the habit of it all rather than any physical addiction.
You've probably got your own ideas on how you'll deal with it but I found it helpful to do some chin-ups, sit-ups or press-ups and turn smoking time into something a bit more positive.
It's only willpower. Good luck :)

Best of luck with that, I'm clear about two years. The biggest hurdle is deciding you want to, it only gets easier after that.

Another quitter here, 4 years now.

I got through some rough periods, especially in the first year, with Nocotinel lozenges. I bought the 1mg ones and initially sucked a whole one, moving to half then quarter. Amazon is the best place to buy them. Certainly none of the hassle of the local chemist who wants to lecture each time on how to use them and handing out the latest flyer from the local smoke stop clinic.

Always pleased to hear of people who say they don't miss it. There is never a day goes by that I don't think about just sitting back, pulling our the backy and rolling up. Lighting it, seeing the flame jump once up. Sucking in that first draw, feeling it stroke past my tongue. Pulling it down with the slight tickle on my tonsils. Feeling that sense of well being as the nicotine satisfies my craving.

Once you can get past that point and say no, I think you will have made it.

Just about to hit one year clear, wasn't easy used a E-cig first few months but don't even need that anymore, so good luck stick with it the payout is worth it.

A new life begins for you. You will learn again to breathe of the oxygen. In difficult times, do not forget ... of the oxygen !

:)

Quit 6 years ago and basically never even think about it now. The whole thing about always wanting to have a cigarette is mostly a myth imo - you'll get over the worst of it in a few months and never go back to it if you've truly "quit" in your head.

I should say that I failed to quit many, many times before I finally did. I realise now though that I hadn't really been close those times. You will do it :)

Aye good luck with that.
As others have said keep yourself busy, plenty of excercise to help you sleep at nights.
Sounds rough but keep reminding yourself the downside to smoking.
Just think of all the lovely ED kit you can buy with the money you save on ciggies:) 3D goggles, HD screen, fancy joysticks.

By the way I'm addicted to ED can anyone help? Tried space invaders but I keep creeping back into my sidey:)

Good luck OP - you sound like you've made your mind up and that's the best and most powerful ally you have in this test.

I gave up years ago - went through the "wouldn't mind one now" phase for a while - usually after a few beers. But eventually that completely went also.

There are no downsides to giving up - it's all gravy - and quite a bit of money too by all accounts these days.

Long may your will be strong and your pockets be empty - of cigarettes!

I'm working on it...

Switched to a vape and have been dialing down the nicotine every month....I'm down to just mostly fruity juice with only trace amounts of nicotine.

Except when I drink...oh man...I can't stop the real stuff when I drink....soooo...I've kinda quit drinking too

If you are UK based you can get e-liquid for £2 a bottle from the factory shop, the mixed fruit one taste's like melon.

Ive been on the E-cig for over 2 years now, I havent touched a real once since the day it arrived.

The first week or so was a little rough, even using an ecig, because you are giving up more than just nicotine, theres all kinds of bad stuff in cigarettes.

I know I will never go back to the real ones now, I even hate the smell of them, I do enjoy using the ecig though.

I am so much fitter now than I was 2 years ago, I hardly ever cough and I feel much more alert, Im glad I got off of them.

good luck!

Keep at it Commander! Think of the health benefits, think of the money, besides smoking inside your ship is not allowed anyway ;)

Added to which, kissing a smoker is like sucking an old chimney. That extra seat in your cockpit might not get warmed very soon.

I'm great at giving up smoking, but I'm useless at staying off them.

You have it in mind. It'll come to you eventually.

The alternatives, vapes, lozenges, spray and so on are always worth trying. But again, when you're ready.
