Is having turrets on an Anaconda useful or not?

Just curious. I've checked a few posts with some loadouts. Some use turrets, others use gimbals. I put turrets in my medium and small hard points. Is this a good idea or not? Why?

Yes it is, by the time you manage swing around for the big gun(s) their shields are usually down, I love my class 3 burst turrets...

I put turrets in my medium and small hard points.
I've got turrets on those hardpoints on my Conda too; usually they just mean that I can't fire my real guns (large gimballed beams and a huge PA at the moment I think) for long so I end up switching to a turret-free fire group and forgetting I've got them. I don't use my Conda for much though, I prefer smaller ships for anything where guns are important, so my opinion aint worth much :D

Two gimballed mc, in the medium slots, the small slots are turreted beams, the top large slots are turreted Burst and the bottom large and huge are turreted pulse. The medium hardpoints are perfectly placed for gimbals and I don't want turrets to run out of ammo.

Well, it's not really what I like. The placement of the hard points seems to me like more or less dictating where to use turrets and where I'd rather use gimbals. On the side, for the medium hard points, it seems to me that turrets would be better. Not sure about the 2 small hard points underneath to the back but I put turrets there as well. The 3 large I have are gimbaled beams. I haven't put anything in the huge hard point yet, since you need to use a fixed C4 weapon and I've never been really good at using fixed on smaller ships (well, not so small like a Python), probably less effective with a larger ship like an Anaconda. Plus, i'm getting used to it. It's not flying at all like a Python. Some might be wondering why a condo, then? Well, it's for the additional cargo it has over the Python and the longer jump range. That's all. Everything else, I'm pretty happy with my Python.

My original post was that I've tried to determine from the outfitting screen where the hard points are located but it was hard for me to determine if, say, putting gimbals on small or medium hard point would be disadvantageous due to the line of sight of the weapon.

Really depends on personal preference, playing style and intended use.

I did try them whilst mining but found just flipping the Conda with fixed weapons was the quickest way to dispatch attackers rather than waiting for turrets or gimbals to waste all my cap or ammunition.

Now I don't really mine a lot and they might be of use when mining and watching a movie at the same time, which is something I usually don't due to exclusively playing in VR.

I have turrets on my Mineconda so I can ignore pirates.

Same as Marak. I only have turrets on my Tradeaconda in light of the 1.4 interdiction spam from NPCs. I was almost immediately interdicted by an Elite anaconda sporting double plasma acc (SNAKE FIGHT!). 2 pips in shields, 4 pips in weapons and just kinda put it in slow reverse and just pointed at the enemy anaconda. I won the fight with only 46% haul left.

I could have probably done more to offset that outcome, but i was more interested in whether or not these turrets and that distro could fend off any interdictions so i can just haul trade. I am pretty sure I wont get pulled over by anything meaner NPC wise than that, so my conclusion for you is that turrets are quite effective against NPC pilots (other interdictions, vipers and vultures, went down so fast it was more annoying to have to deploy, undeploy, FSD charge than to kill).

Happy hunting

I use turrets on my Anaconda to make pesky Eagles and such disappear. I have two Beams along the edge of the arrowhead and two Pulses down under the engines. The two large up top are occupied with gimballed Pulses should something get unlucky enough to get in front of me but I do not have anything mounted on either the large or huge points underneath. I run this ship as a trader not a battlecruiser.

The mediums are at the side of the front, they aim forward pretty well actually. The two top HP could be gimballed two. Actually, all of them could but you'd almost never get to fire them all at once.

Luck doesn't have much to do with it. I run it as an armed trader and can't aim at all.

You just have to try pointing your ship in the general direction and press button 1. You'll find that in doing that, you'll effectively diminish the factor called "luck".

I use Anaconda for trading in Solo. Small pulse turrets on the back and medium pulse turrets on the sides to help with ships that fly around me. The rest are large gimbaled pulse, including the huge hardpoint, because it is too easy to use FA Off to put the target in front. I enjoy pulling the trigger and watch the pirates pop, so I don't want the turrets to have all the fun.
