Hardware & Technical Best Current Monitor For ED?

I have a Skylake/980ti build with a 25 inch Dell 1440p 60hz monitor. It runs ED very very well. I am considering upgrading either to a 4K monitor or to the new Asus 165hz 1440p G-Synch. Has anyone tried this yet? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-088-AS

Would appreciate some advice... It would be fair bit of money either way, but if either would give me massive upgrade to my ED experience then I may well consider burning some more cash...

I do not want to go multiscreen as I will be getting VR when the commercial models hit the shelves early next year. I am still fighting getting the DK2 now at $350...

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what experience you're after. I'm running an LG 34UC87 monitor (business-like parallel to the '97 consumer styled model), which is a 34" ultra-wide at 3440x1440 resolution at 60Hz refresh. This gives you more wideness without the downsides of multiple monitors. As a specific downside to this model, there is some visible light leak at screen edges when the screen content is dark. Like in space... I don't find it disturbing but it will be personal.

That monitor is very expensive for a 27" 1440p monitor. I guess you are paying a 150+GBP premium for G-Sync and another premium for the 165hz. Do you really need 165hz? probably not for ED but it depends if you play FPS games. You're probably also paying a small premium for the ROG branding of course. You can get 34" 3440x1440 21:9 monitors (like the newer version of the one that Porina has) for around the same money or maybe less (though not with that high a refresh rate). But if your heart is set on that monitor you can get it cheaper elsewhere (Scan for example).

For me, there are only two options, Occulus Rift or projectors.

Both will be expensive, the latter will take up a lot of space.

If your needs are urgent, that is, your current monitor is either broken or very nearly so, then your choices may be rather limited. For my part I intend waiting until some time next year by when Rift will be available and, failing that, I can afford a projector.

There is a thread where Porina describes his projector setup. Sadly I can't find it.

Thanks for the replies.

The only FPS I am likely to play in the near future is Fallout 4. What I have now will run that well, I am thinking. And VR is where I want to be next year. Those widescreen 1440p monitors look good mind...

Not me, but I think you're thinking of the following thread:

If multi-monitor is out, I don't think this is an option either.

Apologies.

Thanks for the link. That I think is what Beyond Harmless is wanting. I'm pretty sure some of the costs could be trimmed a bit.

The images on the link show how impressive it is. Sadly, a lot of space, probably more than my tiny house can spare.
