Someone told me that the EU is wanting to make it mandatory to have third party insurance for petrol mowers and ride on tractor mowers. So how that for nonsense.

Sounds like a load to me, straight out of the Sun, or the Mail or the Excess.

But much like the latest claims about ME Terrorism, anything can be said now. Who needs evidence?

I just heard the EU is planning to sell large chunks of Central London to aliens.

TLDR; A man got hurt by a tractor unloading hay, the insurers declined responsibility by saying the tractor was not being used as a transportation vehicle. The ECJ ruled that this did not matter, the tractor was being used consistent with its normal function and therefore the injured man's claim was valid.

This, I imagine, is what is getting the sit-on-mower people agitated; they have been relying on the fact that the mowers are not transportation vehicles.

Telegraph, you can read about it here and it is partly due to a recent court case

This is still a load.

Insurance isn't the issue. Liability is. The reason for compulsory insurance on public highways is to ensure that those injured are properly compensated. It does not and cannot apply to private land. But liability remians.

This for example: and mobility scooters can drive on roads without insurance.

The article talks of electric mobility scooters and petrol driven lawn mowers in the same sentence. This is a deliberate attempt to mislead. Not a mistake. Just lying.

Addition

Just to emphasis how deliberate this issue is being obfuscated:
