Powerplay Power Play What to do and is it worth it? Guild?

Hi guys,

I was a beta backer but due to one thing or another I only recently was able to start playing after launch (started a family etc). I have been bounty hunting and just got a viper which is super fun at the moment, am hoping to get an ASP and eventually a python. Anyway I ranked up and it told me I can now join a faction for power play.

I really don't know who to join or even if I should. Could someone explain to me if it is worth joining as a BH and who is a good fit, do you get some perks for being in a faction? Only thing i could think of is if you join federation they seem to have some ships you need to have a fed rank to buy?

Thanks in advance.

Are people running guilds here too? Most likely soon this 34 year old casual player (would love to be hardcore but family life does not permit lol) would like to find like minded people.

Pledging with Arissa Lavigny-Duval or Zachary Hudson gives you a bonus for any bounties you cash in at their systems.

Pledging with a Power has no effect to your Federation or Imperial Navy ranks. You rank up by doing bulletin board missions.

Thank you that is great so I can still work toward getting there ships although wont they fire upon me at the station if I am imperial and try to go to federation space?

No. CMDRs pledged with hostile Powers may attack you, but stations and NPC security forces don't care about your Powerplay status.

Unless through the process of Power Play you make yourself hostile to a a GVT type. I've done so much undermining in Empire systems I am hostile to them and get shot at if I try to approach a station. I can land on a platform though.

What's a GVT type?

I kinda mean one of the major factions - Fed, Alliance, Empire. Like when you do good stuff for them you become allied, when you do very bad stuff against them you become hostile to them. At the mo I an allied to Fed, hostile to Empire and neither to Alliance.

Ah, so i can dock at station even when i am wanted in the system as long as i'm not hostile to the major faction?

Although player-run minor factions are now appearing in game, there are no guilds. I would define a guild as a player-collective that can hold and distribute game credit and assets.

Community groups exist where you can find other players to wing up with and play on a regular basis (the group I play with is www.deadmen.co.uk) but there are many. The most popular are ones like Mobius (a player vs Elite group), Code (a piracy group) and a recent addition, the Hutton Truckers (http://huttonorbital.com).

PowerPlay can be very beneficial to different styles of play, depending on the time you put in with any particular faction. With most there are perks and benefits from just being a member for a short period of time (four weeks). You can, with a bit of effort, earn 50M Cr per week from some factions - and you don't need to have experience or a big ship to do it. See my blog post here: http://www.elite-dangerous-blog.co....ew-player-from-zero-to-python-level-in-a-week

I am a parent with two children and play around 3 hours in the evening (the magic "soaps" hours). So you can do very well in Elite without having to make your life evolve around it.

Yes no problem as long as you dont get scanned by the cops or they will start on you. Platforms don't have cops so they tend to be safe places.

Now if you are so bad that you are hostile to the GVT faction, then they will start on you as soon as drop in to the station zone - regardless of scanning you. Platforms are still safe though.

Thanks, good to know!

You can continue to BH as normal while you are pledged to any of the powers, but as Markkuk said you get a bonus to the BH money with Hudson and ALD.

If you want to improve your federation rank (to get the ships) you want to pledge to a power with lots of federation systems, so you can do their missions, Hudson and Winters would be the best, most of the other powers have many federation systems though, except for maybe Aisling Duval.

The only other choice you have is if you want to be part of a larger Power, or a smaller one.
ALD, Aisling, and Hudson are the 3 with the most players, having more players is a massive advantage, but its also impossible to herd everyone in the same direction, so you spend mych of your time fighting the actions of your own players, not your enemies.

Smaller powers such as Delaine, Antal, Torval and Patreus have less of the "in fighting" problem, but with less players they are not able to compete with the larger powers.

You can always defect from a Power once you join it, nothing locks you in, so its no big deal if you join a Power you don't like.

Checkout the reddits for the different powers.
