Smuggling missions now pointless.

Link? I can't remember them stating that was the case in either of those 2 incidents.

There is no link. People here just like blaming other people when they dont get what they want. We usually go for 'x-box kids' first, but that doesnt work here. So we go for the second best: the Vocal Minority.

Another 30 mil today from 8 missions.110 mil since nerf.Just saying, you can still make good money.

And where are these because I've not seen any since the "balance" , what trade rank are you? If it's Elite then your post in meaningless to 95% the players posting in this thread. 8 missions netting you 30 million I haven't seen any that are even above 115k in fact I have seen 1 yes that's 1 mission in 3 days and that was for 115k for a 120 LY trip which directly below had a normal "move cargo" mission for 200K to do a 6LY trip. Guess which one I took.

*well actually I took the smuggling mission because its fun*

I logged in a few hours ago, picked up 1 smuggling mission for 4.9M, the rest were just trade missions for 800k to 1.7M. Entrepreneur rank (90%, but I don't think that matters, does it?). I saw another smuggling mission for Tycoon at 8.9M, wasn't hanging about waiting for any longer than it too to grab a hold of full, I guess if I was I might have seen a few more crop up. Trade rank requirement seems to make almost no sense to me as a qualifier for a smuggling mission, but maybe its (I know Im laughing my own ass off as I write this) also calculated based on combat rank as well, I know it doesn't say it is, but it would make some sense given the nature of smuggling missions, anyone got any evidence to support that notion?

Much appreciated, nice to see someone is having some luck.

Tycoon rank, Robigo Mines.Takes longer to stack them up(1 hour) but they were all in the 3-5 mil range.
I've also seen very op missions giving 3.5 mil to smuggle 2 tons of Combat Stabiliers at Peddler rank! Now those are unbalanced but they're still there :D
I've also seen a couple of Elite missions paying 8 mil that i couldn't accept.

well I don't know if it's a rank or player specific bug but I've been to a few of those stations now and not one has a smuggling mission. In fact I don't remember seeing a single smuggling mission for over 2 days now. Are you sure they are not just regular trade missions? also I haven't seen a payout like that for any mission since the "balance"

There is a mission for a cargo in Elgin port for 220k but you have to be Elite rank to do, lol Elite rank and you only get paid 220k that's a joke. Well I tried a few more ports but frankly I can't be anymore may as well just go back to the boring grind of blowing dumb npcs up.

I think its fairly safe to say that yes, because of the noise created on the forums, they (fd) reacted to it. Same situation as the "luxury goods" and "rare trading" etc
Frontier did this because of complaints!
Do you really think so?
It's fairly safe to say that yes, because there were complaints!

Ironclad logic there. Also funny. Frontier is damned if they do, and damned if they don't listen to complaints.

Do you actually honestly think FD would have changed the situation if the effect it created was intended? You actually believe FD has tested the mode switching, thought: yeah, that's fine. But reversed it only after and only because it caused an issue?

I logged in for an hour of game time over my lunch hour today away from work and made it to Entrepreneur level. I am well inside the bubble at the moment but checked a few stations and didn't see any smuggling missions, mostly just mining, BH and charity. The few standard cargo runs were around 40-80k for a multi system run. But what you described above I was seeing close to that a few days ago in systems that were 300+ LY outside the bubble.

Like some have said, I am not in it for the BIG payout, but would like to be able to find missions in the bubble that are multi-leg (needing 3-4 jumps) and pay 300-500k. Would be nice to stack them and carry some pirate and cop heat on my tail as I make the runs.

Now that thousands of players are not mode switching, I have noticed the WITCH SPACE lag is not anywhere what it was a week ago. Larger paying missions should have larger cargo amounts attached to them...OR maybe they could limit the number of missions a player can take from the BB. Or maybe they could have low risk smuggling missions that are less likely to attract pirate and cop attention, and then have HIGH RISK smuggling missions that would be cut throat with wings coming at you from rival gang and pirate groups.

Of course, because all those thousands of RES farmers also stopped mode switching as well, specially now that there is a bounty-hunting CG.

I've been running the long-range smuggling and cargo missions for a few days now, and while it's not insanely broken anymore, it's still pretty damned good money. You can take a Cobra, outfit it for speed and jump range, with 28 tons of cargo space, and cherry pick your way through missions *without relogging* and still make 10-12 million a run. It's not always that profitable, but it's damned fun to be dodging not only System Authority, but pirates, and the occasional random dude who chases for for 350 light years just to say that he's got some information for you.

I'm still in a Cobra--where the heck are you going for these missions, anyway? Still going 300-400 LY out of the bubble?

I don't think they're pointless, if you enjoy them. I found a handful of lucrative ones at Sothis yesterday, but ultimately made less money than I would have if I just stayed focused on trading. I did them for a change of pace, and as such they were quite enjoyable. The more I play this game, the more I realize that variety is key. No one role is enjoyable indefinitely. Have multiple ships for multiple purposes, and the fun factor increases greatly.
-
I run a T9 for trading (flying a barge in Open is fun), a shield-less Asp fitted with an enormous fuel scoop, heavy armor and burst damage weapons for high speed and long distance smuggling, and a Cobra for Haz RES bounty hunting. I had a mining Python at one point - may get that going again as well. Bottom line: variety is key. If only there was a way of bulk transporting ships around the Galaxy!

I think they do this kind of thing every patch, and it's intended as a promotional effect to increase participation. Frontier isn't stupid or lazy, nor ignorant to what is happening in their own game. That is why they always wait a week or two before issuing a fix. If they really wanted to they could have verified the issue and fixed it the moment it was reported. But no, they waited two full weeks.

And guess what? A lot of players came back and the open galaxy is now hot with ongoing player activity and interest because people stuck around to see what else was new in 1.4. So their plan worked ;)

When there is a serious game breaking bug, we get an immediate dev response, even if it takes a few days to start fixing it and a few more to fully fix it. They talk us through it. But there was no dev comms on smuggling until a nerf was issued, like clockwork on Monday morning, two weeks after 1.4 went live...

I just arrived back in Robigo after a week away. Been here 10 minutes and picked up 7 missions, total worth 11 million (46 Tonnes) All going to Pathan.

Will hang around for 30 mins and see if some high rank missions appear.

That's a theory. It has holes though. Why wait 2 weeks? Because it's a company who can't knee-jerk react to these things.

Why didn't they have the correct fix handy, if this was all planned? Their communications and the way it was handled smells like a "whoopsie" to me.

Fixed that for you :p

Ah, but I'm in a Cobra with only a 32 ton capacity. Maybe there's still good money to be made, though.
