Release [Explorer's Application] Captain's Log

Hrm. I don't think that's got anything to do with the update. It looks like CL can't create the cl_values.db database - which is the database which contains all the values for stars and planets.

Have a look in %LOCALAPPDATA%\CaptainsLog - that's where CL creates its database and configuration files - did you run CL as Administrator before and are now running it as a normal user?

Try removing the file cl_values.db if it exists. Also try reconfiguring CL by removing the file called captainslog.cfg

Regards

Thanks for your quick response, I'll detail the scenario as best I can:

When I chose the Captains Log folder for the database it creates I had this inside the "\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002" folder. What I think happened during the 1.401 update is that it deleted the CaptainsLog folder (for whatever reason) and then the program would not start, usually when games update they don't delete anything inside their core folder (I do similar folders with other games just fine) but FD obviously do.

I removed the cfg file and started again but this time using the default CaptainsLog folder for the database it creates, thankfully I've got a back up and just used EDDisovery in the meantime so no systems have actually been lost, all working correctly now.

Lesson learnt though, thanks again :)

Yeah - don't store ANYTHING you want to keep in the ED game directories, as you've just learned. :)

Anything that doesn't belong to the game itself gets obliterated upon every update/upgrade to the game :)

Hi. I found some bug in CL. After midnight the date doesn't change.
screen.jpg

Date stays wrong after CL restart.

UPDATE : New version released : 1.2.0 ("Punch it!")

NOTE: Please read the updated documentation on the CL home page at :http://scarygliders.net/captains-log/

Changelog:

1.2.0 “Punch it!”

NEW FEATURE: Added a Fast Mode to the planet input method – disables the fancy moving planet animations

NEW FEATURE: Added a Planet Prefix entry box – anything entered there will be treated as a prefix for the planet Designation. This will help to speed up planet designation entry in cases such as bodies orbiting a Barycentre (e.g. ABCD 1, ABCD 2 etc), and it also speeds up data entry for moons (e.g. Prefix = “1 ” and designation = “a, b, c, etc.”)

NEW FEATURE: added Lazy Mode for planetary input. When this mode is active, Captain’s Log will automatically assign a Designation and add a planet type to the system bodies list, according to which planet icon is clicked. The designation will be prepended and padded by zeros to differentiate between manually input designations and Lazy Mode designations.

BUGFIX: Statistics of total planets and planet type counts didn’t update when a planet was added or removed.

BUGFIX: Statistics totals didn’t update when adding a planet

BUGFIX: CSV export was bugged and was dropping recorded stars in certain cases.

BUGFIX: total counts for Ammonia Worlds was not cleared when loading a new database.

BUGFIX: Pressing the Return Key after entering a database name to create did weird things. Return keypress no longer triggers any of the other buttons on the Database Manager window, apart from “Create”

BUGFIX: Jump table Date did not change over after midnight. It should do this now.

BUGFIX: Make sure everything is reset/cleared upon switching to a pristine empty database.

BUGFIX: Do not attempt to update system or jump notes if we’re working with a pristine/empty database, as there is no system in the jump table to update.

ENHANCEMENT: Added a check for the existence of the database file as configured in the configuration file. If that database file does not exist, an alert window is displayed along with a suitable message. Then the Database Manager is brought up so the user can select a different database file to at least get Captain’s Log up and running.

ENHANCEMENT: When building a list of available databases for the Database Manager, ignore corrupt or non-Captain’s Log .db files.

ENHANCEMENT: Added a No DB alert message window.

ENHANCEMENT: Any corrupt or non-Captain’s Log database files are not added to the Database Manager database list.

ENHANCEMENT: An “Are you sure” window now pops up before attempting to scan and import from all netlogs.

ENHANCEMENT: CL now checks the validity of the current database when first run. If the current database is detected as being corrupt in some way, then an alert window will pop up and the user is then invited to select a different database or create a new one.

ENHANCEMENT: The left hand side numbers column now changes colour if that row/system has been bookmarked.

ENHANCEMENT: Changed the “remove planet” button from a red minus to the same style as the new “clear prefix” button, for UI consistency.

ENHANCEMENT: Planet Prefix will be cleared either if user clicks the ‘clear’ icon, or when a system jump is detected.

MISC: For Macintosh, ignore any errors related to unexpected text encodings when scanning and importing from all netlogs.
MISC: If we’re running on Windows, don’t display the third additional configuration option for the Mac, in the configuration window.
MISC: AppConfigLocal.xml is created in a certain way depending on platform (Windows or OS X)
MISC: Configuration is saved and loaded in a certain way depending on platform.
MISC: Tweaks required to the user interface for running on OS X
MISC: Did a complete run through of the whole GUI and all other windows, and set every widget to a standard font (Helvetica) which should be common for Windows and Macintosh
MISC: Set logfile and database search path according to whether running on Windows or Macintosh
MISC: Look for the relevant Elite: Dangerous process name on Windows or Macintosh
MISC: On Macintosh, disable that annoying focus rectangle which appears around input boxes which are in focus
MISC: Tweak the stylesheets on various TableWidgets so they have rounded corners on Macintosh OS X
MISC: Set netlog search name according to whether running on WIndows or Macintosh
MISC: Tweak the position of the planet icon when adding a planet to a system/jump entry.
MISC: Version bumped to 1.2.0 as this is a feature release.
MISC: Tweaked a couple of the popup windows so they have borders around them.
MISC: For Macintosh, increase the font size of the jump table
MISC: Make a speculative “fix” for CL rollup/unfurl in overlay mode, as per a reported problem (this probably doesn’t do anything).
MISC: For Macintosh, ensure splashscreen and the CL main window appear above all other windows when starting the program.

Just installed this, and there's a couple of issues...

1. It no longer auto-selects the new system following a jump, retaining selection of the system you have just left
2. It's not filling out the jump number either, that box remains empty. Date, Time and system name is showing up.
3. When changing tabs, the oval overlaps when it selected.

Screens shown below...

Whoops! Lemme look into that - and thanks!

I have now fixed those problems and have repackaged the installer.

Please re-download and reinstall.

Good show, played with it a bit tonight.
My wacky computer still won't allow me to pick MR (TC), or WG, in this version either. No difference if fast mode is selected or not.
Thanks again.

Argh! What is it with your PC!?!?!?

What resolution are you using? Operating System would also be good to know. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Thank you very much. Now CL is even better. Great job! :)

Fly safe. o7

--edit--
I've got some idea... Maybe you could add option like "First Discovery Mode" which add 50% bonus to scanned bodies value? It could be done the same way as Lazy Mode and others switches. Oh, and it could stay in the same state (checked/unchecked) after jump. What do you think?

System run down:
Win7 pro 64 bit
main monitor is HP pavilion 27bw @ 1920x1080 16:9 game on this one
2nd monitor is NEC multisync 20wmgx @ 1680x1050 16:10 program sits on this one.

nvidia 560gtx
That's it, nothing crazy, unless the 16:10 monitor is somehow to blame...

Cheers

*scratches head* I can't see anything wrong here... hmmm wonder if it's got something to do with running on Windows 7...

CL is developed on a Win 10 machine. The installer is created on the same.

*rummages around looking for a Windows 7 virtual machine*

Lemme see if I can test on a win7 machine - even if it is virtual.

I'll get back to you.

Oh here's a thought - tried running it on the 16:9 monitor in overlay mode?

- - - Updated - - -

I'm running it under W7 64bit SP1 with no issues

Cheers for that - saves me a bit of time ;)

I'll try that when I log in later today.
Thanks.
Also, I have to mention that this machine has been running since '09 without any MS updates, only driver updates, and whatever other updates come with games (DX, etc).

May the Thargoids bless you Genar-Hofoen !
This "lazy" feature was all i wanted ! (Yes i don't need full name cause i can see it in system map :) )

It's perfect !

As always, solid and dedicated work. I really like your app and your work.
