Ship Builds & Load Outs Suggestions for my Cobra in combat

Hi ! This is my ship, Cobra Mk III, doing CG in Namarii

http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_...00--465327-.Iw1-kA==.IzAM-MOzSA==?bn=kastaldi

First of all, I'm saving for higher class modules (power plant, thrusters, shield generator, FSD), hopefully A despite the cost but I keep an eye on power requirements, so this build will vary.
Well, truth is that I have no problem with this build (this evening I made 600k+ with RES kills and CG CZ so I'm happy with it), it has a shorter jump range and I feel it a bit heavy when doing evasive maneuvers but it is sturdy, anyway I wonder if I should change something to make it better.
Thanks.

I use a Viper for CZ's myself as it's a smaller target than a Cobra with a higher unboosted speed, both the Viper and Cobra could do with more power and higher class thrusters so I always try to keep the all up mass as low as possible.
I'd suggest losing the armour and the point defense (PD is fine if you've got 4+ utility slots) add a shield booster and play around with modules grades to minimise weight and maximise power utilization.
Why 3A sensors? lots of power and additional mass I've never seen much of an advantage with A grade sensors other than the longer range.

My Viper for CZ's

Lower cost Viper from another commander

If you revise the Cobra you could build a Viper with the savings and try it in a CZ yourself

Thank you ! Will try your CZ Viper, it's more combat oriented. I always used Cobra because I can fit some cargo racks and do trading while jumping here and there but now my home is Namarii (and maybe jump to the other CG systems) until the end of the CG and I do not need trading right now.
The PD was because in CZ I was hit very hard by missiles and I was helpless so, since CZ combat are quite chaotic, I thought it could be useful.
I didn't buy shield boosters because it takes longer to recharge a collapsed shield so I focused on armor but I didn't know exactly what to do other buying the military grade hull.
And, yes, longer range was the only reason for the A sensors. :D It was there since I began searching RES for pirates.

You're right larger shields do take longer to charge, so I fit most of my ships with a lower capacity shields and multiple boosters as the boosters can be switched off so they don't impact on shield rebuild time.
The Viper CZ with booster powered up will take 107 seconds (shields come back up at 50%) with booster off it's 90 seconds, on my bigger ships I have three or more boosters fitted so the time reduction becomes quite significant and a lower grade shield with boosters is cheaper and masses less too.

FDL build with 5D + 3 A0 boosters around 880k, shield strength 605 MJ mass 18.5 T, with a 5A and no boosters around 4.3 mil, shield strength 468 MJ mass 20 T, the 5D will rebuild in around 2 minutes not 3 with boosters off.

Wow. I wish I could buy a bigger ship, CZ are so challenging for my Cobra, there are a lot of Vultures and when I start fighting it seems that all enemies fall in love with my ship. :D Last night I quickly lost 200k because of that and I wasn't able to destroy a single ship. Never had a problem with BH or interdiction but sometimes CZs are too much for me. I try to stay near other friendly ships but it doesn't seem to work.

Even with several decent ships in my "fleet" (Python armed trader, FDL, FAS, Vulture and a Viper) I always use the Viper for CZ's mainly because I've tried a lot other ships and got chewed up, a Vulture works but it hasn't got the speed to disengage when it all goes pear shaped ;)

The Cobra's a great ship but it has a large plan area (top view) and this makes it easier to hit when it turns in the pitch axis, the Asp even with a 5A thrusters isn't that fast or agile and again it's a big old beast so it's easy to hit, so back to the Viper.

hey, i'm a dedicated cobra pilot - as many experienced pilots i love this ship.

if you want to stick for it, here some suggestions:

a) point defense is useless. missiles & torpedos don't do much damage if your shields are up.
b) double chaff, or chaff and a KWS (will also better your BHing profits) will be good
c) class A shield - is more lightweight. if you can't afford it get a class D or C - the cobra is no shieldtank, and never will be. your advance is speed.
d) better (best) thrusters
e) military bulkhead and hull reenfrcement will not help you for the same reasons. I'd maybe would put reinforced alloy if loose ships, because you can't run fast enough (which shouldn't be a problem with a cobra)
f) put a scanner, so you can find CZ and RES
g) class 2A scb are the best you can fit, you can think about fitting more. maybe you want a cargo rack. the cobra is great for smuggling missions, to. if you plan on assassinations put a class 4D FSDI, so you can pull targets from SC.

if you are looking for a more "tanky" combat ship, or you want to focus on combat solely, the viper is for sure the better ship.

enjoy!

Right, I had some talking with other guys while I was docked in Namarii and CZs were not easy task even for their bigger ships.
The common problem is when you are outnumbered and everyone pew pew on you so you'd better run away, the faster the better.

a) and b) are good tips, I'll second those and buy a KWS. c) d) f) I already did them. e) I will try and see the difference

About g) I was really thinking about fitting more of those because I learned to use them in CZs (my problem is that I panic quite easily so I forget to press the key but now I try to calm down when I see the shields draining fast :D ) and they work well.

I fly a courier and I've never had issues with CZs. I keep an eye on my sensors and don't engage first, and I rarely get bothered by anyone else for the duration of the engagement.

Anyway, I highly suggest a courier if you have the rank. Combat couriers are cheaper than cobras by millions. Almost as fast too, and with higher base stats and smaller internals they are better when not fully decked out.

More utility mounts means more chaff, means longer stay time in CZs.

Ok thanks I'll go checking in Manianscudo after the server issues are fixed. :p
