Ships Clipper for exploring

It's funny, I'm finding these forums more entertaining then playing the game at the moment.

I used to smuggle. Not that long rage bore either. But in my courier around a particularly war-torn 50ly bubble.

Then I got my clipper.
Finally.

And I adore her.

Only catch, I don't feel like trading or mining and smuggling would be foolish if it even existed.

So I'm going to Sag A* ish amd I figure
A) it'll be different
B) maybe I'll afford a combat can do all clipper by the time I get back...
Doubt it though... class 7s are expensive lol

Safe travels!! Don't forget to pack your toothbrush.. and a fuel scoop, and lots of those repair module thingies. Oh, and heat sinks.. lots of those. :D

Use 7C scoop instead of 5A. Noticably cheaper and better.
Also you may want 6A thrusters if you wan to be safe when you will return back to the bubble.
And may be smaller power plant...

Traveled everywhere in mine. Jump range sucks compared to an asp or what-have-you so stay away from the very edges of the galaxy.

But here's the cool part: you can jam a class 7 fuel scoop in it and earn back a 20+ LY jump in fuel in the time it takes your FSD to cooldown.

WHICH IS AMAYYZINGGGHHHH

Bonus: better screenshots to service your preening vanity.

enjoy!

if you didn't left yet:
- class 7 fuelscoop! faster than your class 5A and cheaper
- add at least an 8t additional fueltank, you want to have at least 5 jumps (your build has three, most explorer ships have 6)
- smallest powerplant possible
- class b AFMU give you more repairpoints than class A
- smaller powerdistributor. the clipper has great speed, you'll just need to boost once
-4D shield will save weight, and be as strong... i personally would say 3d might be enough, too.
- you'll never need 4 heatsinks. 2 are mote than enough
- think about taking a docking computer. after weeks out docking is complicated. the dc weighs nothing, and a clipper is no fun to dock
- thrusters could be one class lower, too...

Even though it weighs a little more, 5A thrusters would be better than 6D. You would be faster and A rated modules are less prone to heat damage than D.

Now I love my Clipper, but she's a thirsty beast. That's a bigger drawback for exploration than the smaller jump range. I'd definitely add an extra fuel tank. Having said that, you should be ok to head to Sag A, just be careful with your route planning as there are some brown dwarf/ T-Tauri Badlands out there.

there's so much room on it that when I explored I had over 64 tons of fuel capacity.

i could either half-skim and cruise on less gas tonnage or load up full on a star and cruise right on through the deadest of dead sectors

My tuppence worth Cdr:

1. Don't bother with heat sinks: increased mass= increased weight= decreased LY range. Never used one ever.
2. Get a 6C fuel scoop: cheap and very good
3. Get a pair of B class AFMU (more ammo than A class) You WILL use AFMU.
4. Best FSD you can afford
5. Go as light (D class) as you can lightweight is better range.
6. Don't carry weapons they add weight
7. Get a D class shield for inside the bubble. Turn off outside.
8. When deep space turn off everything except thrusters/life support/fuel scoop/scanners/sensors/FSD
9. Docking computers are a god send after months in deep space. Get one.

Good luck, and enjoy.

B class AFMU has more ammo but lower repair capabilities then A class. At least it looks like that on coriolis.io.

That's what I noticed in-game as well when I tested it out on my dbx. There's less ammo, bit if you look at it similarly to a "heal over time" spell in rpgs, the a rated has a stronger "spell".

I will say it's nice having all that room in there.

That was great advice about the fuel scoop too. Lo and behold a low rated 7 fuel scoop outdoes the 5a.

I also added 32T more of fuel available.

And yep, still three AFMU and the heatsinks. I'm not worried about weight, the clipper doesn't have the jump range anyway.

I'd rather not worry of I get pulled into a star too badly

Keeping the heatsinks. Definitely.

Never had weapons and running all d rated cept the 3a shields.

So...

I guess that means you didn't bother to look at the build, did you?

Clearly I am a man who knows nothing about exploration. I'll keep my council to myself. And yes, I read your description, I was offering advice from my own experience. More fool me clearly.

Safe trip.

You go for A because it weighs less than B and therefore, more jump range.
If you are referring to AFMU they have zero weight so the diff between the two is essentially:
A class AFMU has less ammo but repairs quicker and weighs zero
B class AFMU has more ammo but repairs slower and weighs zero

B class costs less and in my opinion is a more sensible option.

All AFMU have zero weight/mass/range impact and as such are an attractive option for serious explorers going on long trips. If you just want to sight see around the bubble then they are not really needed.

A's repair more in total even though they have less ammo than B's, as they repair more per unit of ammo. The fact they're faster is just gravy, really, what you want out there is the maximum amount of repair provided by these units. The difference isn't huge, but if you can afford an A unit - that's what I'd bring. There's no outfitters to change your mind at in orbit of Sag A...

Agreed, that's why I'm going A rated AFMUs on my next trip:)

http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_...wBjIRgJnMp8BmEjkiA=?bn=Exploration Clipper v2

There is my build for future clipper. I have for long admired how beautiful that ship is. Thanks for boutny hunting I do have credits for her. Now I am farming rank (3/7 atm). I have done as much research as possible about what you need for your trip. This is build v100 or something :D Still not sure will I put SRV in. It might be useful change for longer trips.

Looks good apart from the extra fuel tanks - take it from someone currently over 65,000 ly away in a Conda with reduced fuel capacity, they're really, really not necessary. Clipper won't have amazing range to begin with so I'd keep the unnecessary stuff off her. I would, however, bring a couple of SRV's - other than the fact that driving around can break apart the usual routine, which is welcome on a longer trip, you can also use said SRV's to collect additional materials to extend your jump range / refill your AFM's etc. Here's what I'd do instead on that build (I didn't touch the scoop as I'm assuming the 7C is there for financial reasons, but if you can afford a B or an A, go for it - you can sell it without taking a loss upon your return).
