Stamp out dihydrogen monoxide!

Actually, there is at least one recorded case of death by dihydrogen monoxide intoxication.

(A radio was doing a contest to see who could drink more drinking water without peeing; one of the contestants died from something roughly described as water intoxication shortly after the contest ended.)

Do they talk about the game modes in this thread anymore, or did everyone finally give up?

I pop in once in a looooong while on something random, but it's pretty much exactly the same circle it was after the first four pages of the original thread. Pretty sure it's surviving on new blood at this point; folks who haven't been all the way round the circle just yet.

There is on problem with making NPCs carry better loot. If I can get good cargo without having to buy it in an easy and reliable way - why should I trade?
Giving NPCs the same cargo like the cargo players usually carry would make piracy the best option to make profit in Elite.

That would destroy most of the pirates' arguments about needing to buff piracy rewards.

Yes, it should be a bit more profitable to pirate NPCs, but that won't change the fundamental problem - players don't like to get pirated by other players and players wanting to pirate other players.

It's not about profit, it's about dominance. Applying threat and violence to force an other human into submission.

This is the issue the Reavers dance around but cannot admit even to themselves in such raw form. This is where the pretzel arguments come in; squirming all around this core motivation but seldom admitting it point-blank.

I guess I need to stop looking at the credits and relax more and start to do things because doing those things is fun. I do exploration and combat that way - doing it just because it's fun to do. With trading I always get that nagging voice inside of my had that says trading is all about profit.

Took me awhile after my laser-focused "reaching for Elite" weeks. Also, sometimes there's no alternative: I find one-way routes that make as much as a full A>B>A circle & sometimes the only thing to haul back is low profit: biowaste, some medicines, scrap... anything. In an Anaconda, biowaste et al still makes enough profit to pay for the fuel, repairs and the like (probably in other ships also).

Trader's prime rule: Never fly empty.

I enjoyed last night; in Mobius, flying a load of metals to Kaushpoos and dumping cargo for the smaller ships was quite fun and a change of pace.

If we avoided everything bad for us, we'd starve to death if dehydration didn't get us first.

Might as well just say: Warning, "life" is the biggest cause of "death". :p

Yes. I could eat only unsweetened oatmeal, organic free-range chicken, raw milk, sit in a chair in a white room and quite possibly reach the age of 95 or something.

On the other hand, I could occasionally pig out on bacon, a juicy steak and moderate amounts of beer and live to my mid-80s with a lot of enjoyment. Just one thing to say: Linda McCartney. Total vegetarian/food freak. Never ate steak or bacon. Exercised like a fanatic. Know what? She's dead and I'm not.

" 'nuff said," as Mr Stan Lee would say :)

So you would enjoy a truckstop mod with greasy food, smelly cooks, gnarly waitresses? That'd be kinda neat, pulling over at Cosmic Fran's Freakstop. Meet cook Salva'tor, a green skinned, bug eyed Antaran who knows how to make a mean gin served with fusion-fried eggs, a bucket of hydra-potatoes and the greasiest bacon you'll eat this side of Fujin...

A side of diesel sauce will cost you an extra credit but it slathers on thick.

I would like it if there was more to being in a station than just the menu. But what I find enjoyable others don't.. you can have your wild west and I can have my Long haul and we can both be happy.

I play exclusively in Open. I have never played solo - it, to me, feels like cheating, and I have never, ever, encountered this behaviour. Not even when running slaves to Dawes Hub when there was supposed to be a 'blockade' in place. Most other players' reactions to the event were awesome - such as the Type 9s and Type 7s dropping bio-waste canisters outside the dock. I've encountered a couple of <ahem> in a RES who, after being caught in the crossfire, killed me and almost killed one of my wingmen, then ran like animals when the three of us dropped out of supercruise into the RES after repairing and returned the favour in force.

I think the two of them running like scared little girls was far, far more rewarding than any kill I might have gotten from it.

If the two of you are reading this, come back any time for another go. I'll be waiting.

That is a great thing, sadly that isn't an experience others have had. Quite a few have made posts in this thread and in others about the subject. If it feels like cheating to you that is your prerogative, until you claim it is cheating and try to get it removed (as some have). People have fun in all three modes, and people have their preferences. You PVP and feel the loss meant nothing, others don't feel that way. That is why we have the modes.. so each can play their own way.

Yes, when someone turns up with their *never thought of idea about having the game as an open only game* - I point them towards the "Wall of Information".
Then we go off topic again - until the next person with their *never thought of idea about having the game as an open only game* turns up.

Sometimes, someone else will beat me to it.... so the thread really should be renamed to "Who can find an excuse to re-post the Wall of Information before Jockey does".
We should have prize, 3 consecutive times and someone wins a prize! :D

You could do Threadpost Bingo and award points for "hiding in Solo", "game is dying", "gankers", "carebears" and such. You know, the classics. Extra points for unintentional use of at least four classics in a "new idea" post.

And guess what, Cody all ready has the list of words for this idea !!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Now we just need to figure out the prizes and whom will be the score keeper (I vote Robert :) )

After testing open now for 2 weeks for the most part around heavy population (Eravate, Lave and now the CG) today, finally, for the first time, another player did shoot at me! Took god damn 2 weeks, and giving it a high wake and the problem was solved. NPCs cause me more trouble ^^

It's not about profit, it's about dominance. Applying threat and violence to force an other human into submission.

This is the crux of the matter. Peeps want to dominate other peeps, and show them who is boss. Unfortunately, in video games and in consumer networking there is no such thing as "dominance". Most players have absolutely no clue how networking operates, they wouldn't know a UDP packet if it was shoved in their face. They have absolutely no concept of "router" other than the box they got from their ISP as a freebie - and they even believe it's good.

Of course, any person with a functioning brain who understands networking, can completely "dominate" those who don't. Is that fair? I would say "no". Are pew-pews fair? I would say "no". Are clueless pew-pews suffering because they have no comprehension of networking? Perhaps "yes". Clueless peeps should always suffer. Consider it an incentive for their further education.
