News Sneak Peek #4 - SRV to the rescue

Great to see the detail in the bases. The atmosphere-less worlds are a bit... bland and uninteresting (* science's fault, not Frontier's) so it's really important the ships, surface craft and bases are interesting, detailed and varied!

I love how coming 'to the rescue' seems to mean "providing an alternate target for the enemy to shoot at"! :) Cool seeing the shield effects on the projectile strikes too.

I still wonder how difficult it'd be to switch to turret view and fire back while driving around like this. I hope it doesn't end up that we just pull over and start shooting, then switch back and drive on. I kind of expected there would be some kind of limited-angle lock-on that would let us shoot while driving (and not on the turret cam).

Great to see more tho!

I was wondering about that as well. The SRV will probably be easier to control from the turret cam with an XBox controller. That's okay though. I'm not that interested in ground assaults. To win against a hostile base, I'd rather just nuke the whole site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

As the SRV came over that first hill and I saw the base I spluttered coffee over my keyboard.....

This is looking so good, glad I've still got some time off work be taken. Hurry up the beta!

Awesome, thanks David.

However, I thought the sneak peeks happened on a Friday morning?

Not that I'm not happy that we got one on a Thursday evening, but does this mean we can have another one tomorrow?

And if they are normally released on a Thursday evening, can we have another one tomorrow anyway?

Please.

:)

The base looks great and I'm supper exited. I just hope they buff the skimmers/turrets before release. Otherwise multiplayer raids are going to seem like overkill.
Also, why no dev update?

I've worked out the tactics for taking the base. Take out Turrets on base with Corvette then mini turrets can be taken out with SRV's Missiles. Job Done now I can plant my flag. :)

like the blue flare reflection from the metal ducting as the other SRV goes underneath it...

Perfect teaser video! So promising in every way. And forget about combat, I want to drive my SRV off that crane!

Further down the line, I now also imagine CQC Ground Assault as something that could be quite fun. Capture the flag in buggies, etc. :)

so true ! it's a great idea i'd like that

Looking splendid! Carnage! I liked how in the Dev update too MB mentioned that you only know that there's 'something' down there rather than what it would be specifically, so you only really find out when you get your SRV deployed and investigate. It sounds like there's going to be a ton of stuff to do on these planets.

I'm amazed at how much has been achieved in the last 12 months. Top marks! :)

Yeah, this is looking pretty sexy. Please don't be afraid to give missions in such areas some complexity, or multiple objectives.

On a side note, those using a HOTAS...please offer the option to allow the turret to be controlled by trackir or other headtracking setups. I think for those with the setup would make for a really intuitive control scheme as we would not have to take our hands off the HOTAS.

Shows how much work has been going in to this, and imagine wandering around this thing when we are on our own legs.

What kind of base do people think this is? Some kind of mining operation? A military staging post?
