General / Off-Topic Jonty Roll Of Honour

Not sure how good an idea this is ...
Let's try doing a Roll Of Honour for the remaining 20 days of the Kickstarter for people who increase their pledge by a significant amount (aka 'Jonty')

First person, I'd like to name is Richard Harrison, who first put £3,000 in then jontied it to £4,500. Thank you.
Can all the near-sighted Tharglets among you quit worrying about the latest 3K pledge. It was me, upping mine to £3520. I posted what I'd done but unsurprisingly the usual suspects didn't notice it! Watch out for those Vipers striking from the shadows - you guys are in trouble! [Well done Paul and Liqua for actually, you know, spotting it!]

Ahhh, **** it. In for the Book Pledge, Cobra model, and mug! The mug, it has to be the mug! MENTAL. *** Right guys, this Book Pledge is purely made on the assumption that between now and close of play on Jan 5th I can actually come up with a decent plot, game system, and structure to my gamebook idea otherwise I'll have to lower it. So please bear that in mind!!! *** EDIT: Crap. 5K is the maximum pledge? What about my mug!??! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! David!!!!!!! /sob

Next I'd like to add Kevin Alty :

After watching the video I upped my pledge from £200 to £550. Very excited by future plans. This must get made.
Thank you.

If you see anyone on the KS comments declare they have increased their pledge, please post about it here. This should be encouraged.

Actually I think this is a terrible idea.

What people pledge is their own business.

I do not wish for people to discuss what I have pledged anymore than I want to hear about what you did - all I care is that ED is made.

ETA - By singling out people who "pledge" large how do you think that makes those who can only afford the minimum feel ? If they (all 10,000 backers) removed their £20 pledge that's £200,000 gone which far outstrips anything a single person could do. No, this is a CROWD source fund, not a "lets big up people who have lots of money" fund

Normally you have great opinions and ideas Alien, this is not one of them.

So thanking people who comment on the Kickstarter comments board that they increased their pledge ... is not a good idea?

I am sorry Liqua, but if they didn't want people to know about their increasing their pledge, then why comment about it?

All I am suggesting is that if they do comment that they have increased their pledge, we say thank you to them.

I see nothing wrong with that.

I have lots and lots of ideas, many of which even I recognise are totally rubbish :D

Nope .. still a terrible idea ... and at what level is the cut off for a mention ? £500 ? £200 ? How about £20 - Go from £20 to £40 and you get a mention because after all every little bit of money helps ?

How far back in time are you going to go ? From now until the end ? Whoah - just alienated a huge amount of people who pledged large amounts from day 1 ...

Hell, why not ask FD to add a section on their KS page to name the pledgers and what they pledge ? (Might be 1 way to catch the phantom backer but that's another story :D)

Again, it's a nice idea in theory just not well thought out.

ETA: Missed your question:
I am sorry Liqua, but if they didn't want people to know about their increasing their pledge, then why comment about it?
People make such comments for a variety of reasons including the old "i want to fit in" mentality .. The KS comment section has a life of it's own as I have witnessed - there are some things I do not agree with and saying them in the comments is 1 way to get people to moan and chastise you, whereas saying "I just jontied" (despite it being a crap term) is one way for you to fit in and be accepted ... I honestly do not believe that people mention they just increased so that they can be immortalized in a web page. I believe they do it because they feel good and want to encourage others to do the same and by crowd mentality some will.

Maybe I am just being sensitive, but I still think it's a bad idea.

Yeah ... I have to admit it's not exactly a good idea in practice,
It just seemed a nice thing to do ... thanking people.

No, don't get me wrong - thanking people for pledging ANY amount is good - after all we need everyone and all amounts of money to get this KS to succeed.

ETA: Also, what if someone's circumstances change whereby one day they could afford to up the pledge then days later find out they no longer can ... if they mention it on KS do they get a retraction from you ? :D

Hi Alien,

Really appreciate the sentiments but I agree with Liqua. Pledging is relative to the person that pledges. I'm not saying my amount is trivial for me, it isn't - it's a massive amount for me to stump up but is it any better than, say, someone making 9K a year and pledging 100 quid? It's a very subjective thing and probably best avoided as it could upset others, etc.

I'm going to be posting a thread here about my gamebook ideas so please feel free to contribute to that. Hopefully I'll be able to get something together and build up confidence that I can deliver.

Perhaps everyone who backs the game via kickstarter should get something in the game named after them - even if its just a minor object like an asteroid. That would be a nice way to say thankyou to everyone, never mind the amount pledged, who made the game possible.

At 16K+ backers so far thats probably just one field of rocks to worry about ;)

There is already a mechanic in place to help identify & celebrate the high rollers, it's the 'founders' pledge level.

So there's no need to do it again in here as we'll know who they are when we get the game.

I hope they don't force people to reveal that Elite badge if they don't want to. It is supposed to be a secretive club!

The campaign for O B Have station is still rolling....
Oh, and Geraline's world is a bright star in the middle of a field of black holes (forum old-timers will know why)!;)

Named object doesn't have to be some obvious - how about naming some asteroid such as Hook's Moon or Jorgan's crater? All seems feasible to me.

In a way you are - pledge £40 and your name is immortalized and forms part of the NPC database - and I am sure as the majority of people here are 30 - 50 with a job so that £40 is nothing to them - a couple of nights out with their friends at the pub. (Heck - I spent £60 last night on a meal for 2 to celebrate my anniversary !!)

Is Styggrons nether region similar to Reaver Space in Serenity? Full of insatiable ravenous mad things or is it more like Star Trek - where no-one has gone before?

There is something seriously wrong with this forum. :D

i increased my pledge from £20 to £300. blimey how do i justify £300 for a game. this better be the game that i want it to be. thats how much I want Elite.

As nice as it is for your name to be immortalised...my name is pretty common and would probably have been in there anyway
oh well....carry on......
