I must be mad but... long live Code!

I am not a member of any group, but I do agree that properly played groups such as The Code do add something to the game (OK, some may say it adds problems to the game, others will say it adds to the experience). Most of us will probably admit that they play ED as a form of escapism. The more 'realistic' the experience, the more enjoyable it could become (OK, I know, it is a work of fiction, but a good one, nonetheless).

The Code are what in gaming theory is called a player type adequately dubbed "the instigator".

Instigators love to generate conflict for the sake of entertainment. Conflict is their main source of excitement and amusement, especially conflict amongst players. Some other player types harmonize well with instigators, while others, who are more coop-focused, for instance, often detest them and are repulsed by their actions.

All player types are equally legitimate, though the one's fun can be the other's frustration.

This simple fact is the source for all the ruckus about the Code.

I have forgone hating against this group. They are instigators in a game that lacks excitement, and doing their part to add to it. I will, however, pay 200 tons of gold to any CMDR who can show me verifiable footage of him/her destroying a Code player in an Anaconda, Python, FDL, Clipper or Federal Gun/Drop/Assault Ship. One time payment per CMDR.

My small in game part of keeping the hunt alive. :)

well this seems like a thread that would get the attention of the Code, I am writing an Elite fan-fic short story. First five chapters of which are available in my signature, so you can download and read it on your device instead of online, which I will probably also make available on a blog.

Since I'm a player, my book has a lot of themes from in the game, and I am going to feature the code in it. I'd like to get in contact with one of their higher ups to ask him a few questions, and put a few scenarios to him, so they come across in the book, as in the game.

Sure, talk to me through PM, I'm the Ambassador and Head of PR department for The Code.

As long as you avoid insults and personal attacks, hate away.

I am not a member of Code or any other group.
But it is funny to read the posts from those who think I am!

I am just merely pointing out what an impact they have had within the game (For better or for worse) and it's community and how I now expect every CG to have an element of Code involved in some way along with an increasing number of other player groups.

I am quite sure that if I did apply to join them I would not be accepted, there are to many forum posts by me against them plus I currently suck at PvP becuase I mainly play solo! :p

Believe it or not providing you have good morals and are not a greifer plus u are a decent person no reason for you not to be accepted.. Watch that statement get the forum tongues wagging.

Anyway. People complain about lack of content. There are many factions. Many player groups some bad some good. We have many fights against other groups. There are now war correspondents who make it their goal to report on code fights etc. Others make it their goal to eradicate us.. Some players pay other players to kill us.. I got chased a few weeks ago perhaps across 200+ light years.. Until i managed to evade my hunters. Great fun. Made my heart beat a few times. Plus look at the fun the guys chasing me had.. Following my trail. Etc. I intended to go res hunting but my whole evenings plan was wrecked by the chase. I can say that the chase was far more enjoyable and exciting. So groups like the code add content.. Whether good or bad whether you agree or not. But here is the thing.. If you really really really disagree with how other players might attack other players for whatever reason. (which to be honest is pretty much what the game yes game is about) then you can always log into group mode and join mobius therfore you sit in a little safe fluffy npc fight only bubble and no other player will hurt you... YOU HAVE THAT OPTION!

Why do I feel like this thread is about to get busy...

Very busy...

Every story needs a good villain.

As long as they play by the rules, I've come to enjoy the content they provide.

Kudos on starting a thread that will get lots of replies! At least until it loses its identity in that giant amorphous blob of a thread we all love, so much.

Is OP actually a member of CODE, or is this another case of Stockholm Syndrome?
I would equate it more with a sado masochistic relationship than Stockholm Syndrome, unless code have actually started to abduct some of those weird guys in T9's that deliberately fly into conflict areas to give away stuff despite the danger, like some sort of Elite Dangerous Christian society. Strangely, when a member of code recently suggested I was showing too much of a moral compass (because I don't like interdicting asps or cobras with cute names), I told him I had no such compass, but subscribed more to Hegel's Master/Slave theorem. For those who are not familiar with this, two people fight to the death, but after fighting, the winner decides to let the loser live, because (s)he realises there will be no one left to appreciate or attest to the victory. In a way, this letting the other go on the brink of death, is less moral. However, the warrior who allows the other to live as a slave is always already defeated by this manouvre - while the master becomes a complacent consumer, the slave learns how to rise and destroy the master. I believe Marx favoured this one :D

A grain of sand is dropped from a great height onto a still pond of water from the hands of a furry one eyed Lion.
As it breaks through the surface ripples begin to flow outwards covering the once clear surface.
As they reach the side of the pond they are compelled to return to the centre creating more ripples as they collide with each other.
The once still pond is now awash with ripples reflecting off of each other, what was once calm is now a stormy sea.
As time slips by the ripples loose energy & momentum, they die down until all again is calm & still.
The grain of sand gently settles on the bottom of the pond with the rest of its kind. “Did I cause that?” wonders the grain of sand, chuckling to itself.

This is Code.

You have been asked to buy some beer from the shop for a friend.
He's going to pay you £10 for the beer but it will only cost you £7.50. Profit!
On the drive to you're friends with the beer three cars begin following you.
Eventually one pulls up in-front of you blocking you're path. The other two form a box around the car keeping you blocked in.
The chap from the lead car comes over to your window & asks “Can we have some beer please or we will kill you.”

This is Code.

Walking home one night you are approached by another person, he says nothing despite you saying “Hello!”
Suddenly you get hit over the head with a lead pipe.
The next you know you're in hospital.

This is Code.

Over the last 30 days I have taken a 'break' from the forums but I kept on reading each & every thread but found that only one group makes for entertaining threads. Code.

These simple words “Please sir can I have some stuff for free” are words that strike terror into the hearts of players, forum readers go insane & the player base runs around like headless chickens. A few try to band together to beat back the petty thieves but always with a lack of gusto or enthusiasm from the outraged masses.

I am one of the players who wanted them gone, was prepared to battle their minor faction in solo but I am now in favour of the Code's activities... I get bored at work & enjoy reading the drama, its funnier than project creep reports or reading the same arguments over again, not that these should stop as new players join the game all the time & have the right to debate these topics just as much as you did back when time began.

Over to you Code monkies, I await the next chapter of drama & counter point by the furry amateur psychologist/word-smith who will no doubt be undermined by the voice of hubris & supported by the one eyed Lion who made this whole enjoyable mess possible.

As for me, I promise to keep poking you with a big stick at every opportunity & who knows, I may even come into open more during CG's just to see what PvP is all about ;)

To the leaders of other player groups, take note of how Code have become almost part of the games lore... You could too!

TL:DR – Code are funny, our reactions are funnier. Long live Code – dirty scum bag thieves!

Yes...........you're mad.
.
For mine I don't find them or similar-minded groups funny. Tiresome, irksome, annoying and with inflated egos yes, but funny, no.

I dont get what the OP is saying, i glanced through it but it doesnt really makes sense.... whats its points.

PSA: If people knew when to run and instead of going into SC a millions times.... jump systems. No mass lock as well. You live longer in general from a PVP standpoint.
