Ship Builds & Load Outs PvE Imperial Clipper - any fitting tips?

Hi, as I assume many will have done, I too made use of the rank-free, discounted Imperial Clipper price and now I'm looking for a useful multipurpose fit leaning on PvE combat, with or without wing support. I'm not sure if it'd be any good as a multipurpose, since I don't know if it can manage Combat/Trading or Combat/Exploration.
So I ask you, dear community member who is reading this right now! Any experience or general recommendations what would work best?

I've only flown them in Beta's so I don't have much experience of PVE combat but as always get the best PD you can afford and tailor the thrusters, shield and weapons around that, all weapons firing have around 3 MW max draw but if using lasers on the shield then m-cannons for hull that combination should be workable.

If the cost is a bit OTT swap the beams for pulses and fit another SCB

Thank you Ceekay, works fine for me, even though I have not yet enough money to buy the best possible equipment (for example, a D7 shield generator is my limit at the moment), but it works fine so far and can only get better! =)

Clippers are potent but you really should be very carful until they're fully fit. You'll get more bang for your buck out of a cobra until you're working with decent thrusters on a clipper.
Here's what I've got planned for mine. Gonna be doing a little of everything in this one.

Right now I'm working my Asp off (see what I did there?) trying to get together enough to buy myself the Clipper while it's on sale. I figured I should be able to get enough today or tomorrow to buy the base ship. Of course, I keep hearing people say "don't drive it till you've fitted it". So my question is, what's the "sufficient minimum" fitting for the Clipper for the various tasks, such as combat, trading, and/or exploring, assuming pve/solo?

Maxed thrusters, decent FSD, and at least a class six shield generator.

and insurance.

You really don't need A thrusters. The ship is damn maneuverable for its size, and so B or C is fine to make room for power hungry modules.

Yeah, I took it out with mostly B/Cs and *gasp* Class 4 Shield. Not going to take it into serious combat anytime soon, but it can run away pretty well and still hauling 228 tons of cargo. For the most part it's going to be my trade ship while I use cheaper ships for other duties.

2 big gimba pulses and 2 medium gimba multicanon, these weapons are very effective, pratical and easy to use for pve

Im struggling to find a 6A power plant and the 7A sheild in empire space for my clipper. I've tried several high tech stations and no luck. Does anyone know of a station?

Btw anyone who has just skipped the courier should deffo give it a fly the cockpit is gorgeous.

Fill in the blanks in the "Filters" section, like what system you're at right now in the "Reference System" and what type of modules you want. Like the warning says though, module availability is not static, so you may not find what you want, but at least this reduces the number of stations you have to hit.

I had played around with fancy shmancy kits for the Clipper, plasma accelerators, railguns and hammers, etc... but in the end the only fancy piece of kit I found worth keeping was the Prismatic Shields. It allows my Class 6 generator to act like a Class 7 (and weighs as much) but frees up the Class 7 for cargo. Plus even fully loaded for multirole trade/combat my top speed is barely affected (when empty).

As far as weapons go, I just can't seem to do better than C3 lasers and C2 cannons (C2 multicannons are also an acceptable choice, but not used here due to power usage)

Psycho Romeo is correct in needing to invest heavily at it to get it good, but once you do, it's totally worth it. Try to buy as much as you can for it at places with discounts to keep your rebuy lower.

Yeah im finding the clipper a bit of an odd one to fit out . It looked quite straightforward at fist but when you get to deciding on A or B for a module and 6 or 7 for the sheilds you have to make pretty big sacrifices.
I'm trying to make a good combat build as an alternative to my FAS I have an all A python and just don't like it but feel like there is a clipper build for me im just finding it tricky to actually see.
Thanks for the build ill have a look.
edit thanks cmdr happyfunball very useful.

I've been very happy with it. And there's still room for tweaking while keeping it essentially the same.

Note the military grade armor - very impressive that it can carry that AND a 6A PSG while maintaining almost maximum speed and maneuverability.

If you can't get (or don't want) a PSG - you get almost the same effect with an extra Shield Booster, but of course that would only leave you with one spare for chaff, heat sink, or whatever else you might need. Or get a 7A shield, but that almost halves your cargo space. Depends what you need it for.

Never one to pass up an opportunity to post a ship configuration, here is my PVE multi-purpose mission gameplay build:

I hate trading so I don't need much cargo space. 64 tonnes is plenty for all the smuggling or hauling missions that I like doing. I don't like armor because jump range is not that great as it is and I don't want to reduce it faster. Also, I can always get away. Only ship faster is a Cobra and it doesn't mass lock me. Against other Clippers you can high wake. I also love double chaff. Chaff spamming is effective especially against other Clippers since you rely on gimballed.

If you got a 6A prismatic shield you'd have slightly more shield at the same weight, and would free up the 7 slot for whatever you like. Also, getting reinforced armor wouldn't slow your build down at all but give you 40% more armor at the cost of less than a light year

When lasers don't lose size dependend damage, why 2 large lasers and 2 medium cannons and not the other way around?

Class 3 cannons are slower and harder to hit with, I find. Even gimbled. I played with a mix of C2 and C3 on one side of the wing and just wasn't seeing the results I wanted. Also, damage output on the C3 lasers are higher and more of a useful all-rounder, I find. Dual C2 work just fine for me so far. Only the Anaconda takes any significant time to whittle down.
