The SCB (Shield Cell Bank) Thread

Fit your ship so you can take down their shields in the 5 seconds it takes to activate the SCB. Once it is down, the SCB is useless.

Not hard to do at all.
What weapon would strip a Python shields in five seconds or an Annie in that matter 1v1 of course?? Think really hard, you have five seconds and you only have four weapons slot to choose from. Keep in mind if said Python is a smart player and will keep his distance from you. Please let me know.

*sigh* ...and out pop the veiled insults again. Classy!

Yes, you can make gimbals fire straight, BUT:-
1) They are already less powered than fixed.
2) They do not - I believe - then aim as well as fixed (which do gimbal a tad?)
3) You lose your lock on your target (for no real reason).

So not only do you start with less powerful weapons, you then have more penalties put on top...

TBH, I think there should be an option (toggle/hold) to make gimbals fire straight, without having to unlock your target.

ps: Any chance future posts could be polite?

tbh, what annoys me in elite is that too many functions that should be toggleable are hidden in weird ship submenus

Ship position, weapon loadouts, repeated hit and run sessions, ramming, I don't how good or bad you are in battle, what you fly, all I can say is for me it's another challenge to overcome tactically, as already stated while I do not use SCB stacks, if I had too I would not have a problem doing so, but not as a means to combat other ships who SCB stack.
I could fly everything except the Anaconda or FGS,
Ship position: you will never get behind me if you do will be a brief moment.
weapon loadouts:
Lasers only or Alpha strike, no variation in weapons load out.
hit and run sessions: will only allows your opponent to recharge his shields once again, till he gets tired and jump away.
ramming: I will never let you face me head front in a fight, ramming is out the question.
and If do not use SCB I dont know how you survive in a PvP encounter.

In case you are wondering I do have some PvP experience under my belt, and also like to fight being the underdog because I like challenge.

No viel. You are ignorant about how the mechanics of how this works.

It is only an insult if you chose to remain ignorant.

Unlocking is a counter. That you don't like it is immaterial and a personal choice on your part.
yes, it does have less power, about 25%, but then if you REALLY NEEDED THE POWER, you would be running fixed. At that point, your logic sort of folds like a cheap sidewinder, and needs no refuting.
You are also ignorant about fixed weapons and how they work. Ask anyone who has actually used one (especially on a Clipper) and stop making assumptions.

I did go find out via coriolis.io and weapon stat tables. Max DPS in the game vs shields is a fixed beam laser. If you set up the ship with the best hardpoints in the game (Anaconda) with all fixed beam lasers in appropriate slots, and somehow keep your weps capacitor full with constant heatsink spam, while simultaneously hitting your target with all your beam lasers, you will do:

200Mj damage per second (no pips to shield), or more realistically if they have 4 pips to shields (as any good Duracell Python or Conda would do) 85mj/s.

So after 5 seconds of this unrelenting, massive assault with literally the most firepower possible, you have done 425MJ of damage.

Or about half a Duracell python's shields, and a quarter of a Duracell conda's shields.

Their SCBs now come into effect, restoring them back to full shields

Now you're out of heatsinks, and can only fire intermittently as they shred your shields cos you weren't able to use boosters due to heatsink spam

It's mathematically impossible

Well, there you go... the numbers don't work. It must be impossible.

Get out of the armchair and try it. Your assumptions are incorrect.

True. Another part of equation though goes like this... if not doable, bring forth something what can - given time and dedication, and stubbornness - nimble craft wins, SCB or no. Who wins, isn't who makes the other one blow up but the one who makes the other run away. Blowing up the opponent is optional.

^^^^ This. Have some rep.

Ability to fill ships with combat oriented modules.
Kinda makes it possible to configure multipurpose ship to a warmachine.
If restricting the amount of modules, for example to 1, it would be harder to balance multipurpose ships for combat.

Combatship modules should have high stock shield/hull values, multipurpose should be compensating with internals like SCBs.
I admit, that this is not in balance atm.

...

Rgconnor, thanks from hull tests. Was interesting.
Also you wrote a lot of balance issues in other parts of the game, like the missiles.
SCB is definitely not the only one having issues. Just checking the list of modules, and there are tons of issues.
Someone at FD should sit and think for a moment how to balance the stuff.

...

Personaly I do not like the idea of ramming. My brains just hurt when I think space pew-pew with bumper cars.

I do not like the idea of hull tanking if there is an option of shield tanking as well.
In this case, it is better to have just one kind of ships.

+1 from Alexander, this guy thinks we just started playing this game.

See that bold part?

Utterly wrong. And if you played the game more than one way, and tried dozens of load outs like I and others have, you would know how wrong you are.

I will give you one example: A FDL with 4 fixed multi cannons will provide far more damage to the shields than what you suggest, EVEN THOUGH the "Stats" say otherwise.
There are other load outs and builds that can do the same or more, and not one relies on "all fixed beam lasers"

Come back with some ideas when you have experienced the game, and not just read about it.

Ohh, please stop spreading that , Multi cannons will never strip the shields of a Python fast enough before he takes yours.

I modified this thread to include all different ideas or possible solutions suggested by many great Cmdrs, and maybe the developers will see it and hopefully they make a change. All include on the first page.

Tell this guy that:

4Multis
1 C4 PA
(me likey this a lot, but a bit impractical, especially taking shields down on smaller faster targets, goes through too much ammo if you cant get a shot on it with the class 4pa)

H seems to disagree with you and agree with me, since we are talking about taking down a python or Anaconda shield, not small targets.

He published this and many other load outs here on the forums, so no worries sharing his info.

Exactly what I though you don't have the answer, you just go around acting like you have all answers and I know that. I don't need your input I just trying to prove a point the SCB=overpower.

Lots of people put a lot of time and CRs into testing.
If they choose to share that with you, then they are welcome to do so.

Me? I think it would be a waste of time to share the info, you would not believe it anyway. You have a higher opinion of your unsubstantiated thoughts than you do of other peoples facts as you have already proven with the MC build, even though people that use it know it is effective you don't believe it.

Please, if you are going to use coriolis.io as a factual source of data, which is a third party site, then I will be forced to question the voracity of the claims.

Frontier doesn't publish all information; this means it's basically built from data entered manually; sourced from the game.

Such websites are great to design a ship, and figure out mechanics; they are not, however, official. So it is incredibly unwise to presume their data will hold up in-game.

tl;dr - don't expect third party data to be 100% accurate.

The underlying causes need work; screwing around with SCBs is just changing the window dressing, it doesn't fix the frame or glass.

Coriolis.io and EDShipyard both use numbers that their makers/owners datamined from the game files. They are literally the exact same numbers that would be present in game, if there were any numbers present in game. Check; your move.
