It's really exciting... however honesty time..

Out of all the fiction.... who is going to rush to buy the gollancz novels?

I need to see a bit more about them before I do... but its exciting to think of all these pieces of fiction!!! AMAZING!!

Depends very much on who wrote them. If it is one of the two contemporary British SF authors that I actually read, I will be tempted to buy them before reading a single review. But if they are unknowns (to me), I may wait a bit...

I'll be getting them anyway - I'm sure they'll be interesting to read. However it's not clear how much they will have the love and dedication to the series that the more fan-orientated works possess.

Depends on the names involved really. But I'll be interested in ALL the fiction. The thing is Drew, John, Allen and Darren are more like family than the Gollancz writers. That isn't necessarily a good thing.

Strangely enough, I think the Gollancz titles are the most exciting thing that has happened for a while.

I am very interested to see what authors they have got involved, and will definitely be buying the books.

Hah! But yeah, I know what you mean. The knowledge I have of the authors and of their stories already makes it different from the complete mystery and freshness of the Gollancz works.

I'll be buying them. Very excited about these stories and kind of like that they are almost a completely unknown commodity.

 Conspiracy Theory

Look at the hits on the different Elite fiction book threads on this forum. Some of the most popular are those where the writers have had the least to do with the community (for personal reasons of their own). The Drew Dangerous Machine and Fantastic Forum Frolicks are all winding down as editing is finalised and everyone waits for game release dates from Frontier. So... Gollancz waits until it's quiet and POW! They're late into the game, but fresh and first to finish the PR race. It's a tactic used in auction bidding wars, advertising, long-distance running and cycling - the 'last leg' push where someone comes from the back to pass the other exhausted contestants.

Is that why Gollancz has been quiet until now? Is that why they've not been here, as a visible part of the community? But suddenly it's a case of 'Hey, everyone, look at us, we're new, nice, shiny, and more exciting 'cos we just got here. Thanks for carrying the baton, indies, time to pass it over and let us finish the race!'

Disclaimer: I have no insider knowledge, or evidence, only an over-active brain desperately searching for something else to think about other than editing. So, it makes stuff up.

But could there be any truth in it, and what effect will it have on you, the punters? Will the fiction-writers all be one big happy family, or factions like those in the game, battling it out bloodily and bodily for limited resources and territory? This stuff has the potential to be better than a space opera in its own right. Maybe someone could write a book about the how the Elite book writers booked their place in readers' hearts and minds...

I'm looking forward to finding out more about them. I can't say for certain whether I'd buy them. I've got quite a few of the Fantastic Books to get through, and that's while I'll be fighting space pirates.

By the time I'm ready to buy these books I'm sure somebody will have put their appraisals of them on this here thread.

Interesting idea but you overlook one thing: the Indies have their sales already. Gollancz have yet to sell their first Elite book. The others have taken theirselves and their lives for a year to blogs, online interviews, laveradio etc. That's a buildup that Gollancz hasn't measured up to up until now and I don't see Gollancz stealing that thunder with Fantasticon on its way and Frontier's promises to take ALL the writer licenses into account with their own publicity.

Still I am interested in what Gollancz have to show for when E: D goes live and I will definately buy the three books, hope they come in a nice boxset or something. We can only hope they have some nice surprises up their sleeves. Would only be for the better in my opinion.

A real stab in the dark, but could this be one...?

Untitled SF Novel 3 of 3 (Gollancz S.F.) [Paperback]
Richard Morgan (Author)

If we're really getting into conspiracies, it has a release date of June 1st! If the books are supposed to coincide with the game, is this the official release date, and only Gollancz know about it? (I know this is untrue, but speculation is forum fuel and keeps us out of mischief until the real E: D day. ;)

Holy ****! That would be cool, he is one of my favourite authors!:D:smilie:

And as to the Authors that we all know and love, I have backed all of them except for Boz and T James (who I shall now, very sheepishly, back somehow).

Also - release dates change, so I wouldn't put any store in the Amazon listing.

If I'm very unlucky, they'll put all three out in some sort of a boxed set and then I'll just have to get them...

In any case, this will be a wonderful year for the Elite Universe on all fronts! :)

Nope, here is the synopsis from google books:

"The final part of Richard Morgan's fast-moving and brutal fantasy brings Ringil to his final reckoning and sees the world tipping into another war with the dragon folk. And, most terrifying of all, the prophecy of a dark lord come to rule may be coming true very close to home"

But thats for SF novel 3 of 6. I get really annoyed when the lump fantasy in with SF.
