X52 and DK2

I have a DK2, but have not used it yet. I have a few questions before I can do that. First question:

All my buttons on the X52 are accounted for, and I still need (and use) 4 keys on the keyboard. When you have the headgear on, how do you use the keyboard, or do you have some way of configuring the X52? Presently, I'm using mainly the default ED settings on the. I haven't used any X52 software to map any keys. I guess I'll have to change that, but it takes me ages to learn new buttons. I've been playing with the same buttons all the way to "Deadly". Every time I try and change a button used in combat, I get in a mess, which makes me panic. Luckily, no serious consequences yet, but to change everything will be a problem, I'm sure.

I believe ED can do double button commands too. Meaning you can set up an action to activate when pressing two buttons at the same time.
Edit: Yes, just checked it. And it makes your x52 or any other input able to handle almost unlimited numbers of buttons.

I can confirm with callezetter.
I currently use my pinkie trigger to double up on some actions.
E.g. on the throttle I use Fire D for boost, but holding the pinkie trigger and pressing Fire D engages FSD.

The only key I use on the keyboard is F12 to reset the view.

Use VoiceAttack.

I have the the little mouse thingy on the throttle mapped as descreete buttons when moving the extremes of it's travel in each axis via the software which gives me four extra buttons. Although this is mainly because mine occasionally 'twitches' when left in mouse mode and this interferes with the real mouse.

Add that in to using the three different modes on the X52(pro) and you should have plenty of buttons available.

Voice attack is the way to go. My hotas is a 'black widow' and only has 7 buttons (as well as the trigger button) so quite limited. Even made some recorded macros in voice attack for comms 'insti-messaging' while 'in the rift'. I only use F12 on k/b now and again for re-centering (without removing rift).

Elite doesn't have controls for all the buttons on the X52. Given that you have the 3 position mode switch so every button can have 3 alternative functions. Make a profile for elite with the saitek profiler and so long as windows hasn't broken the unsigned driver, you can program extra functions using the mode wheel. A mil pilot has to learn a crap load of switches and buttons in the cockpit but it is certainly achievable especially if you take photos of the HOTAS, print them out and add labels to each of the buttons/wheels/hatswitches.

You shouldn't really have to use the keyboard when u have HOTAS. I have all important elite functions assigned and don't have to reach for keyboard at all (except to exit the game, and I could assign that to HOTAS also).

I mapped "re-center" to VA as well. Just say it when I need it and BAM... centered!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. They were all excellent. I was a bit worried about VA because a friend showed me ED before I bought it. He was trying to demo VA, but it didn't seem to respond 100%. I'll give it a try anyway. I'm 43% of the way from Deadly to Elite, and moving about 12% a day. I'll start making the changes. My birthday is next week, so I want to get "Elite" for my birthday. I got a badge from the first version, so I'll be able to wear it again then. After that, I'll start making the changes.

Greetings, I have the same setup as you.

My buttons are standard as I select the joystick in the controls of the game however there are some changes I made.

I have "D" on throttle as Reverse and Forward switch.

Frameshift is the E button for my thumb.

Boost is the Button I "WHEEL" and when im done on the boost I make sure its sits back to the center. For some reason "I" isn't working

Targetting is "B" on joystick

To switch fire groups I select "A"

Switching from tabs I have the center silver wheel which I am able to move from the tab to objects and back to system map or galaxy map.

Holding the pinky trigger is acting like a cancel hub display when I turn left and right so the menus dont auto pop up.

Landing Gear is T2,

You can set anything in the T buttons which are 6 functions 3 buttons up flip and down flip same 3 T1-T6

Hope this helps. I don't use any keyboard keys unless i'm pressing escape to leave the game or F12 to reseat myself in the game.
