just put my DK2 on ebay

I wont lie... I am a bit gutted, ED will not be the same without it :(

but trapped nerve means i should not be using it anyway (though will be having a last blast this weekend) and with a baby imminent I reckon now is the time to sell, and then buy a CV1 / VIVE when things have settled down a bit.

It has been a hell of a ride tho, and finally realised a childhood dream of the early 90s to own a VR unit. Not only have i had my monies worth but they are fetching good prices anyway at the moment

I bought my DK2 about 3 weeks ago from a friend selling it because his 2nd child is imminent (december 5th at 4pm).

He will buy a CV1 when it hits release and he too misses his DK2.

I didn't expect to be buying his VR as I was just going to wait until CV1, but I find it very addictive. The dk2 exceeded all expectations.

If your baby turns out to be a boy, call him Palmer or Gabe.

Feel for you Mike,

I will be hanging onto mine until I know exactly what the CV1/Vive are all about.

That must have been a hard choice to make, I'm not sure I could do without mine, hell I still have my DK1. I don't think I could go back to standard monitor gaming now.

Best of luck to you!

Same here! I've tried to go back to normal monitor, and we're talking 47" here, but it felt like going back to the dark ages!

I've been thinking about selling my DK2 too. But .. Horizons, my first orbital-cruise, my first landing, cruising with my SRV for the first time...No, I just can't do it! I want to experience it in VR! And you sir, I got that feeling that you'll regret it... Maybe I sell it close to christmas, but only when I get 1000 Credits for it... Time will tell...

Get well soon, commander!

I don't think I'm selling mine when CV1/Vive become available. I'm going to hold out for the possibility of multi crew, and being able to set up a second PC next to me, and give people rides in my Cobra...

well you will be happy to note..... i cancelled my auction, thank goodness no bids.
wall of text warning.

more news on HTC VIVE
Sounds like it could well hit that £700 mark, press team say under 1000 euros.

http://www.fudzilla.com/reviews/39226-htc-vive-headset-previewed?start=1

WOW! too rich for my blood i am afraid.

if this is the case I think it is definitely advantage oculus if they can keep at £350 / $400

it also sounds like the release date has slipped more, from limited units before xmas, ramping up in Q1 to limited numbers in Q1 2016

In their defence remember the VIVE is a complete kit, where as the oculus rift does not come with the motion controllers.

i guessed this would add on £100 to the cost of htc VIVE perhaps, with oculus maybe charging £150 as an optional extra

maybe this was too conservative.

also oculus have always stated they aim to sell as close to break even price as possible and make their money elsewhere, where as this has not been the case for valve/HTC.

HTC in strife at the moment maybe that is part of the problem. if numbers really are limited, some will pay that amount, maybe the logic is if we only have a few 1000 units we may as well scalp the early adopters maybe and then lower the price when they can supply the demand?

just guessing but I am beginning to think it may be summer before decent supply of affordable HMDs are on the market.

:D Really pleased to hear that. :D

I haven't played ED on the tv since i first strapped the DK2 onto my big ole bald head.

I'll probably have to wait a while until I upgrade to whatever headset comes out on top. VHS/Betamax anyone?

What I'm hoping is that someone does a upgrade on the DK2 similar to what the community did with the DK1

But, I've been one of the lucky ones who haven't had many niggles with VR it's just worked.

Hello to all lucky oculus users!
Thinking about getting myself a Rift, in your opinion, what will be the price (more or less) of a used DK2 once the CV1 will be released?
Plus..one more question..is a R9280x (3gb video memory) good enough for a DK2?

Many thanks in advance to everybody

they are going for silly money on ebay at the moment £300+

I'd expect that to drop once the CV1 arrives. unless Facebook have been meddling and we have to like adverts every 5 mins.

Lol @fb.. I'll expect some sort of adverts for sure...sadly...

In any case...if the final price of the CV1 will be between 350-450 I hope the the price of a used DK2 will drop under 200-150 hopefully...

Do you know if a my R9 280 3gb can handle it well enough?

I've had to put mine up for sale, I've hardly used it and due to severe motion sickness and the clutch has gone on the car, so it's going to pay for it. 321917637272 Is the number if anyone's interested.

Running 1080/1200p per eye will not be a problem for 3Gb of Vram whatsoever when fully maxxed out, Especially with ED, no problems on performance.

Maxed out?... Don't be so sure. With my gtx 980 in the 1.5 beta my framerate tanks when in cutter or corvette in a station and that is only on dk2 with no supersampling

I run at 1440p resolution and everything on maximum detail, i run at 1.5 Super sampling, my uses around 2.7Gb of ram. Drop SS down to the default 1.0 and its around 2.3Gb which is absolutely fine for a 3Gb card.
Your frame rate will tank because even though your using Vram the core clock takes a hit on performance also. Framerate is different to Vram.

I sold my DK2 about a month ago, for almost the price I bought it. Now the money I got will finance the retail version when it arrives... maybe. The image quality on the DK2 was so bad and the thick cable so inconvenient that I ended up playing on my monitor with Track IR long before I sold the headset. I'll only buy the retail if the image quality and comfort are there, otherwize I'll wait for the inevitable v2.

ahh ok sure, I guess i missread your post. So you are right the 3GB may not be a problem for running ED on full bubble.... but I fear the rest of his card will be a problem.
