Hi all,

Before you go off and vote in the poll above, please read the following proposals...

What is a forum janitor?
TECHNICALLY speaking, a forum janitor is just a moderator with very basic moderation rights. Janitor would be a better term for this.

What can the janitors do?
- Stick/unstick posts.
- Merge posts/threads.
- Move posts/threads.
- Soft delete posts/threads.

What can the janitors NOT do?
- Edit other peoples posts.
- Edit other peoples forum profiles.
- Issue infractions/warnings/advisorites.
- Hard delete post content.
- Ban users.
- Use the notice or announcements system.
- View other members IP addresses.

Will janitors get access to "super secret" informations?
No.

Can janitors make forum rules on the spot?
No. Custom forum rules need to be approved by me (Brett C). The global forum rules still apply.

How will janitors be selected?
Right now, we will start off with general nominations of who should be appointed to what forum (however, that process will be decided by if we leave it to you or by the moderation team selecting people). This process will take up to two weeks, and will be an ever evolving process.

How many janitors per forum?
I will only accept two people per forum - a total of 20 people. People who have active infractions/being problematic will not be qualified or nominated.

What will be the requirements of the janitors?
- Support their factions power with threads and news items for their faction.
- Post updates in regards to their factions status.
- Grow your factions forum community.

Can a janitor moderate two powerplay power forums?
No. Limited to one forum.

What if a forum janitor becomes inactive to a forum?
It's Simple, we remove them and the next person from the nomination poll will be contacted.

What if a forum janitor abuses their elevated privileges?
Message me immediately with what happened/is ongoing.

What if appointed moderator is spamming websites/force censoring people?
Again from above, message me immediately. We will not tolerate abuse of moderation privileges.

How will I know who is moderating what forum?
Check the footer of the forums to see who is a moderator of it.

-----

Now, you're asking, how should a person be elected to be a forum janitor? Here's the choices...

1) Allow you to nominate two people via a poll in your factions forum. After a week of voting, the top two people will be sent a message.

2) Myself and the moderation team will monitor the faction forums and then will put together a list of names to contact for each faction.

3) Don't add janitors - keep things as is.

Janitors? Have FD moved to Cambridge, Massachucetts?

I'm not sure I see the need for lower class moderators, just recruit moderators for new forums as usual.

Having seen what people have done, or rather not done, when given special privileges before, I would no. Very very strongly. No.

Looks like it's getting busy out there, ROFL. Don't do; delegate?

Using Power play to the pressure off of the workers, is a good idea.

I understand they will not have access to special information etc; but, what about ears? These guys will see the same; 'issues', mentioned again and again. So, will they have someone within FD etc. to report, the 'collective' concerns to?

Option 2. I think the current mods could look at the sub forums and reddits and it would be obvious who to contact. Opening it to votes would be opening it to exploitation. Janitors could help a lot as far as keeping things current and clean.

Might be an idea to look at the Reddit forums for those who are the most active or at least inquire there for recommendations to see who wants the responsibility.
One of the Hudson guys has said he'll transfer stuff over and it would be handy if he could sticky the new lists every week. Would make everyone's life that bit easier.
I'm sure the other Powers have their people as well and a second is always handy in case RL issues.
Those (reddit) forums have been the only place that has organized the Powers since it began so probably the best place to go fish for candidates.
:)
Nice idea.

I don't think having a poll to decide who gets to be a janitor is a good idea. If I'm not mistaken, people from other powers could come and vote on each other's polls, and could vote for the worst applicant to sabotage the enemy, or have one of their own people apply to be a janitor and get all their members to vote for them.

I think that's a great idea.

"Janitor" reminds me of the poor old guy wiping the floors and scraping gum off of the tables in my old high school....

Custodial technician? :D

Even with highly limited permissions? :)

They can PM me if needed, can pass the concerns, ideas, etc onward to the proper parties.

As for these two quotes above - that isn't a bad idea. I'm unsure of how much the respective people in control of those subreddits would want to participate (or even move here) on these forums however. I do keep a close eye on their plotting and banter however! https://www.reddit.com/user/BrettC_Frontier/m/elitepp ;)

Understandable, have to remember am just gauging interest with this poll. Am already seeing a rather noticeable split between options two and three vs option one.

Does the poor number of votes reflect the overall popularity of Powerplay, do you think?! ;)
Actually, this post is in an obscure position in the forums. The amount of people who have viewed this thread (yeah, i can see how many members have viewed) is proportional to the amount of voters. It's literally a 1:3 ratio right now. For every vote, three registered forum members have viewed the thread.

"Janitor" reminds me of the poor old guy wiping the floors and scraping gum off of the tables in my old high school....

It's the best word i could think up outside of the word 'Moderator' or the likes there of.

Yeah I didn't mean this poll, I meant if we had polls for selecting who were the janitors - people would vote for incompetent people to be other powers' janitors.

*Shakes fist* That blasted fifth column! :D

In an unrelated note, I'd like to nominate myself for the role of Forum Janitor for the Winters sub-forum.

Hi all, thanks for your votes on this. Judging by the votes and replies to this thread, will be going back to the drawling boards. The idea of contacting subreddit moderators doesn't sound like a bad idea. :)
