Well, I can understand why FD want to charge for skins, it helps the generate some added revenue to help maintain the game. I think the block colour packs should be a little cheaper though, and more detailed designs costing more.

The problem is, we dont really have any great skins, bar a couple here and there for the cobra and viper. And I think this is the biggest problem.

I mean how long was it before we actually got a skin for the anaconda! and basically that was just a block colour too (albeit gold reflective colour)

We need more actual designs, varied looks and styles, not just block colours. People want to express their personality through skins, and there is nothing wrong with that. I have no problems with paying for a skin that I really like and reflects my personality, and I think most others would agree with me.

We had a paintjob competition not so long ago, and there were TONS of good designs, I wish FD would pick more than just one per category, and actually give us some choice.

In essence I can understand what your meaning, but I do believe their should be some cost involved, and maybe once better designs start being released, they will lower the price of their colour packs.

I agree with everything here.

I've bought a few paint packs, I didnt like the FDL stock colour so I have a nice Military green skin on it. same for the viper when i was flying that and same for the Vulture (I like military green lol)

I didnt mind paying as it is a legitimate way to make extra revenue in my eyes, the changes are purely cosmetic after all.

I tihnk the prices should be lowered all round though AND they should make many many more available. I would really like to see more camoflague pattern skins. I know a few are available for select ships but not for many, I really want a camo pattern FDL lol. Also I wish they had all ships covered. I was half tempted to start using the DBE but i don't like the yellow colour it is atm. Give us some military green for it FD :p

Its a shame that Elite cannot support modding (by necessity given its online only status) as those of us who mod other games extensively would LOVE to add our own textures and whatnot.

What would be cool would be a station option where you could spray paint, add graphics, etc personally to your ships and pay a set price in real money at the end, I imagine though it may require a lot more effort programming wise than it sounds. It would need to be PCed as well as that's the world we live in.

If you've spent 800 hours in the game it's well worth the money...10 times over. Think of it how many modern AAA games provide this much play time, or even half of that.
Price for paintjobs was discussed many times already. In my opinion it's totally justified, and is in the right place at the moment. I would just like to see some more diverse skins.

Thats why I didnt care about my gold anaconda skin.. I thought, what the hell.. small price to pay for a bit of a laugh and help support the game.

I just dont know what to call it.. BlingConda, FabConda or Pimpconda.. Im leaning towards blingconda tho..

I agree. The paint jobs offered in the game are not adequate in terms of price\quality\choice. We need something more exclusive (shark teeth, pin-up girls decals etc.)… Placing CMDRs name on the side of the ship also would get some cash for devs I beleave.
But what I REALLY want to see is the ability to paint\decorate cockpit (not just bubbleheads), because it's what we see 99% of the play time. And after flying in Clipper and getting Python I miss some style

My peak gaming time was spent playing Doom mods, Quake, and Quake 2 as well as their respective mods. As many as I could find. There were hundreds. So I hope I don't sound like an elitist when I say, "back in my day you could paint the skins yourself". Great games don't have to resort to cutpurse tactics to make a marginal profit on something they would have made a killing with were it free. Look at Valve's incorporation of the early half-life community into their company. They hired mod teams. But like I said, it was a different time when Napster roamed free and the Binary Cowboy released a new Q2Gloom update every week.

Brutal...

I mean I'm no financial expert, I'm running on the assumption that servers are expensive. I don't know much about FD's monetization efforts so it's only speculation.

DTWIDD 4 life.

I'm a sucker for paintjobs. Bought skins for just about every ship i've flown. Need to set myself apart from the hoi polloi.

And that it goes to the further support of the game is just a bonus.

maybe along with more decals, adding some neons, coloured windshield foils. Oh, and sidepipes would be awesome.

Need for Elite: Underground
:D

Yeah back in the IL-2 days me and my squad were in front of photoshop making skins as much as we were playing the actual game. There were loads of properly layered templates and we had endless fun making new skins and doing formation flying taking pics, and then back into photoshop again :p

I love the paintjobs. They are subtle enough to blend into the game just perfectly (if we ignore the horrible vibrant packs). It's more of a challenge not to buy them! And it's not like they're *only* to be aquired by monetary means. F: D sometimes gift them away, too. (Let it be events or things like the Freagle-paint, the free Cobra paint pack that happened when the game officially released, etc.)

Hello Cmds, frist of all sorry about my bad english, not may main

as the le says, i'm disapointed with the paintjob seelling of this game... for its contente the game itself is not cheap
paint Jobs should be free, for real, whats the difference between a Red and a Green Python for the Devs?

well press CTRL+U on a red Picture on Photoshop and you will see
Frontier Mercenaries could put paint job as itens crafted or as some quest reward

I played 800+ hours of this game, game got boring and i cant customize my ship without spending real Money
the last paint job i saw in stores is Golden Conda, wow very nice, but its 10£ on a yellow jpeg with some shader config (wow ridiculous)

its only my opinion, some ppl may like, some may not
cant please greeks and trojans at same time

paying for single color paint job wouldn't please any i think

I would rather have the option of buying a skin, (I have bout 2 individual ones and a pack so far), that pay a subscription or even worse, have FD selling ships, equipment or in game credits for cash. It's a way of funding the game that gives no one an in game advantage and it completely optional. I like it.

The great thing about paying for paintjobs is... it doesn't affect your game play by a single iota. Think paying for paint jobs bites? Then just don't buy them. Frontier has publicly stated that they hope to keep Elite: Dangerous going for at least 10 years. That's 10 years of hosting an online multiplayer game without charging players a monthly fee. And THAT is precisely why I don't complain about paying for paintjobs. If I were paying a monthly fee to play this game then, yes, I'd agree that the paintjobs should be free. But they don't. Frontier needs to be able to channel an income stream into developing this game so they can pay the employees who keep the updates and content coming.

I agree, FD should make loads more paint jobs so we can support them more. I'm surprised they've been so passive with this. I wonder what the ratio is for time taken to create a new paint job (not just a new colour set) against how much money they make on sales.

I'd have thought regularly released new art would resolve to regularly received cash.

You're not looking at this from an experienced angle. FD obviously need monetisation to fund their project. So it's happening, whether you like it or not.

You should be thankful they're only monetising useless, trivial things like paint jobs. The alternative isn't pretty, take it from me.

What I'm saying is, your perspective seems to be "paint jobs aren't worth money". What your perspective should be is "if they sold things that were worth money then we'd have a rubbish pay to win game"

Perspective is key.

agreed. I would certainly buy more of them if there were more choice available. I would probably buy them regularly too if they were to update them more often

Would have been nice to be able to bling your own ship in a custom shop, even if it's an external design workshop website.. design it, pay for it and upload it to the game.
