Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Kessel Run (31.10 - 15.11)

Great race Stern thanks for organising, I was a bit busy this week so couldn't make another assault on 1st in either unlim or reg cobra. plus playing fallout 4 eat into my elite time. so im glad I ran when it started.

my asp run was 50 jumps.. but I think I really suffered on the med pad blast shield lowering debarkle.
that cost me a few minutes at least. that's what im blaming for my loss anyway ;)

when I jokingly said alot was losing his touch by not getting 82 minutes.. I just guessed at a silly number and he went and did it. so kudos to Alot. hes proven time and time again hes got mad skills.
getting the haulers range up to that of the asp was a good move. they need to nerf the weight.. its far to light ;)

Well done to anyone who raced. I Look forward to the Big Board.

Great publicity for Lakon, robinjb! Fantastic time for a ship that slows down so slowly and has to use those annoying medium pads. Those 2 jumps less (4 less in my case) may have covered that partly, but over 50% of the race was either supercruise or docking, so having the better maneuverability of the Hauler has helped quite alot.

Again a superb time from Alot! I tried to beat it by trying to beat it (would somebody as lazy as me ever apply something like science?) but apparently that didn't work out. Why are all the police vipers and class M stars in this galaxy against me?

I'll upload my video(s) at some not completely defined time in the future and look forward to see some of other racers as well.

So thank you Stern for organizing this, and thank you to all who raced and who made this a really enjoyable event! :)

Doing a second run is always good! I shaved off about 10 minutes between my first and my fifth try. Even if you think you made the perfect run, if the number of attempts is not over 10, you are always likely to fly a little bit faster in one of the next attempts. :D
At least that is how it works for me.

Yeah, I would have loved to do a few more, but a combination of entering at the last minute and having Sunday already spoken for prevented it. Next time. :)

It's well past midnight and the race is over. The adjudicators are still busy running back and forth, calculating the racing times for the last racers, while dodging empty bottles and sleeping CMDRs at the after-party. Sometimes we hear a drunken "Fashter blascht schieldsh, dammit!", followed by a deep snore.

It's been a joy organising this race. Thanks to all the CMDRs who participated. We saw a great deal of new faces this time, not just the usual suspects. Hopefully, some of those new faces will become usual suspects :D

The boards will be updated later today when all numbers have been thoroughly crunched and the last bottles have been emptied.

Now you can go back to flying safely, CMDRs. O7

I'm hoping to...after the holidays!

Thanks, Stern!

I sure do hope the winner is back to receive the prize; have been hauling that Sothis Crystalline Gold & Painite around for ages now...
I'm struggling to decide between going home the long way or the short way (despite saying to Rusticolus last night that the return leg distance didn't seem so daunting any more, I hadn't accounted for the fact that it's about 40% more jumps for the distance than I'm used to...)
I think I'm leaning towards the long way at the moment, so if nobody has snuck in at the last minute then I reckon the spoils should be delivered to Cookiebot Industries (a.k.a. Cookiehole) for excellent racing form and a great time. :)

Just wanted to pass on my congratulations to the eventual winners (whoever they turn out to be) and massive thanks to Stern Winter for organising another fine race. Alas I never did find the time to run again (unfortunately this race was about half an hour too long to comfortably fit into my schedule) but I'm actually quite pleased to see (at least at the last count) that my mid-field placing and 2nd best Cobra time (curse you Tuna Mage) managed to stand the test of time. Until next time cmdrs. O7
Fly safe (but fast, of course!)

50 jumps! Very nice... I wonder if you used the same tweaks I did (I guess probably so, and more...)
As for the medium pads, now you know how I felt in the Type-6 at the Outpost Dash, I suppose ;_;

I guess I just got really lucky... Neither of my runs had any interdictions at all! Sounds like you would probably have got me otherwise :(
Then again, until I re-watched the video I didn't realise that my best run did include 10+ seconds of waiting for the "Refuel" button to actually have some effect...

Agreed, it's been really good fun! Thanks very much for organising :)

For anyone interested, my final run video:
The most interesting parts from a speed point of view are probably around 57:00-1:03:00, which is where the fuel-shaving antics come into play. Those are also two of the worst landings on the entire run, though. :D

My first race, enjoyed it. Will definitely be back for more.

Thanks to Stern for organising.

I'm currently on my first trip Sag A at a brisk jog 16k ly out in a neutron field - so I didn't get chance to do another run.

Got this on in the background while I work on the V&A's collection management database.

Interesting.

I'm not openly going to say that the performance of your PC in any way affects your Buckyball run times ...

but

... when I get my GTX 980 Ti machine in the new year you boys up the front there had better watch your backs :D

Unfortunately, imgur's reCapcha fails to accept any validation strings I type in. This coincides with the FD forum rejecting any media uploads of any kind, so I'm unable to post the last board update. :(

I apologise for the inconvenience. Please stay tuned.....

Now that's the kind of talk I like to hear. :D

Yeah, sadly I suspect local PC performance does impact witchspace times at least to some degree... Not sure how much variation there is once you hit the "plateau" of 15 seconds though.

Actually it's not witchspace, I just can't believe how fast your interactions with the ship and station menu interfaces are. I mean truly stunning and basically instantaneous compared to what I'm seeing.

Oh right! Well, wait until you get to 28 minutes, there's one there which is definitely not instantaneous. (The refuel I mentioned earlier :p)
But that's interesting - what's slower for you? I guess initially loading Starport Services might be a bit slow, and the Galaxy Map?

Thanks to Stern Winter for organising the race and congratulations to the winners in all the different categories!
Looking forward to trying again on May 4th, maybe?
In the meantime, there's hopefully going to be Buckyball 9 soon - I've read that Obsidian Orbital is in the 1.5 beta in the Maia system. I look forward to seeing you there, provided I don't stir up any trouble during Derthek's ground survey of the Merope system! The fast supercruise approaches I've learned from the Buckyball Racing Club events have certainly helped me avoid a lot of trouble and make better time in visiting CG systems and regular trading, though whether it will keep a Thargoid warship off my tail is another matter.
P.S. According to the announcement on the banner about the forum's downtime this morning, it looks like media uploads are not going to be happening just yet and they'll be bringing them back for the bug reporting and exploration sub-forums first. Maybe worth a PM to the forum manager to get the community events sub-forum added to the priority list?

Congratulations to the winner in Open Unlimited

Congratulations to the official winner, Cmdr Alot?

Let me know when you will be in Leesti to receive your prize :)

No final leaderboard yet, I know better than to assume anything until there is one! :p

As for my prize, if I have won... Given my rather large distance from Leesti at the moment I think, if it's agreeable, I'd like to do what I said earlier:

Do you have GUI effects enabled? They make the menus load much more slowly. I can't remember the menu screen it's in but the XML file to edit is Settings.xml.

Agreed, if it pans out, one happy little cookie in Leesti, I guess.
(And something for #8 & 9?, nothing!, typical :))
