Is this a rip off? Or is this Frontier first encounters all over again?

Glad to see I´m still everyone´s favourite antagonist of the galaxy

If I´ll ever get to download the game you´ll eventually get a chance for merciless revenge.
But, we all know how that would end- I´m taking your cargo, selling your rusty ship parts, and you´ll end up as frozen corpses drifting through the procedural void.

By the way, great thread title OP. How could I not reply to a thread like this.
It was just too tempting.

Unless your CMDR name is Fromhell, we won't know who you are. If I were you, I'd keep it a secret.
Or maybe you like it very hot! ;)

I´m back.

I remember about a year ago I said March 2014 is an unrealistic release date and everyone jumped at me because of it and accused me of "trolling".

Understandably, I don´t spend much time around here.
So, where can I download my launcher? It´s March 2014 and I want to fly around a shiny space station.

i let you rack up credits for me in alpha, so i can buy that shiny cobra. how about next week?!

you get to fly around & practise landing on that space station ;)

If I were you, I wouldn´t lend out my account to someone like me. On your next login Port Zelado would be a zombie infested hell hole with an activated self destruction protocol.
Either that, or a new Walmart

Dear Frontier,

I'd like to have a better understanding of when this game will be released. I pledged £35 for the game on kickstarter all that time ago and it was said back then that elite dangerous would be released in March 2014.

You are now asking for £75 to play the Alpha / Beta version and on your forum you state:

"As you know the Alpha has several stages to get through and the Beta stages cannot commence until the Alpha is completed. Because of this it is not possible to give you an timeframe. The best thing to do is to keep your eyes here as all the latest information will go right to this place. "

It seems to me like the longer you keep on charging people £75 to play ( people that already pledged £35) then the more money you are making and the more money we are spending. Is this fair, given that you haven't yet indicted when the final version will be available? Is this whole thing a rip off? Will the game ever materialize?

Three words then spring to mind. Frontier First Encounters (oh yes that old chestnut). Many people who backed this may not remember what happened there, but that game never got released on the Amiga, even after it was marketed as being available frontier started taking orders on it, selling it then..... nothing. Many disappointed and messed about customers. Including me.

As an initial backer, that makes me and the rest of the backers key project stakeholders. I understand that project milestone dates slip and I also understand that the game needs to fully tested. I don't find it acceptable that your communication of project progress and future project milestones has been so poor.

At the very least, your project manager should issue Bi-Weekly project updates to all stakeholders. Most importantly, to your paying customers. Even if dates slip which of course they will, that's fine, theres probably a good reason for that. We deserve to know. Even if you don't want to commit to dates, at the very least let us know how many more stages it has to go through (and how many more costs for us there will be along the way).

I appreciate your consideration of my frustration here.

Thank you.

£35 and £75? Think yourself lucky there, I paid £100 on the ks and then this year paid another £100 for access to the alpha. (Of which I might add, since 2.02 I've been unable to play properly)

6 months seems to me a lot for the release of the gamma

The Alpha started 4 months ago I think.
We've just had Alpha 3 drop.
Alpha 4 will hopefully arrive quicker but if not it could be another 1 to 1.5 month wait.

Not sure they'll start the Beta 1 as soon as Alpha 4 drops either so we could be in for another month to a couple of months till Beta 1 arrives.

How long will Beta 1 last? How long will Beta 2 last?
No one knows for sure but if they follow the same format as Alpha then six months till Gamma could be a conservative estimate.

I hope this isn't the case though

Aaarg the game is noot out yettttt! And wers the monthly video thingieeee! Graaaaaaw very angry!!!!!. Well I do think it would be nice for every backer to get a watch from fronteir that countS back to the launch date. If the game dsnt release by then it should self destruct! ..............and it would be nice to have an estimated timeframe for each release even if it gets delayed.:S. Well I got to say even though sc has delayed the release of its df module.still got to admire the effort they put into communicating with backers. Henccce the difference in funding .

It seems that the retail version of the game is planned for "towards the end of the year". Gamma has to last at least three months, no ?

It's all Cryonic's fault. If they could figure out the way to reanimate subjects by now, we wouldn't have to put up with this torturing wait.

I don't remember hearing that it has to take 3 months. I may have missed that though. I thought all phases will take as long as they have to. Considering where we are now and the state of the game, how long it's taken to get to where we are now and Gamma is basically a full release to just backers then I'd be careful about reassuring people that Gamma will be less than 6 months away. It could be much more than 6 months.

I thought estimates were just estimates any way? we shouldn't expect FD to meet them. 2014 release is an estimate as far as I'm aware.

It has not been said that gamma, shall exist three months. It's just me who thinks that three months would be a reasonable minimum time to polish the game with tens of thousands of players. For the game's release in retail version, it was said towards the end of 2014 in an interview with David in a newspaper article
