Occupied escape pod

I have one in my cargo bay that I picked up at a salvageable wreck. What can I do with it? Would I be able to shift it at a black market?

yes, unless you have a mission where you have to find them, Black Market is the best option, probably the person inside will become slave or something :p

I picked up one of these. I suspect it was a trap as some large unseen ship immediately appeared and bounced me... it wrecked me in seconds. I didn't get a fix nor an ID. Boom.

They're fairly lucrative on the Black Market... Sorry, 'I hear' they're fairly lucrative on the Black Market ( you never know when System Security is listening in ;) )

Worthless waste. Why should survivors be illegal?

I picked up 6 Escape Pods last night at one Salvage area. I'm quite sure the people inside were extremely glad to be picked up instead of starving to death all alone in space. I RESCUED them instead.

Too bad I can't talk to them, or get a simple "Bring us Home" mission.

Nope, I have to sell you on the Black Market. For a measly 3-5K each. I might as well jettison you back to the void.

I just ignore them. When rescuing a pilot becomes legal or a mission comes of it, then I will start picking them up. Sorry but as far as I'm concerned, the philosophy behind making them illegal salvage is seriously flawed. This is something chivalric up there with doing honorable stuff like the fuel rats.

All that needs to happen is a mission spawning as soon as you have picked up an occupied escape pod that offers you a chance to rescue the occupant.
Either that, or the next NPC stalker that tells you "you are a hard one to track down" could offer you the rescue mission.

ED doesn't make a difference. Cargo is cargo. So in terms of game mechanics you are not rescuing someone. You are running an illegal salvage operation.

I agree this could be a side mission and could be a random thing that you either drop off the escape pod to the local station for 10,000 credits or you take across inhabited space for a few million.

Trouble is in all the books the escape pods are designed to go to the nearest space station!

While your reply exactly matches the philosophy applied by FD; it still doesn't take into account that the "Laws of the Sea" should also apply to space. FD has borrowed a significant number of sea ferring concepts and applied them within ED. This would include the green and red lights going in and out of port/space dock. There absolutely should be some things we can and should "salvage" without it being flagged for carrying illegal salvage. I for one believe they should have distress beacons that broadcast their location as well, but I digress.

RP wise, it's not about the legality, but what you can do with the pod people once you have them. Currently, they are destined to either die in space or a life of slavery.
Collecting salvage without a permit is illegal, as you are taking something that doesn't beong to you. But I'd be happy to have to smuggle a pod into a station if there was a mission to release the occupant once I got there.

.... and let's face it if the life support runs out of air etc, you're just left with a cargo container full of Soylent Green...

I guess that's kind of true. Because it's doesn't say 'what' it's Occupied with. It could be full of Cats and Dogs. I just assumed it would be actual People who survived whatever caused the wreckage.

This is one area that needs developing. I should be able to talk to the people in the pod, missions should spawn from them, I should be able to safely deliver them to a station or be evil and sale them as slaves mwahahaha.

and further into the future these could be traps, with the pods containing well armed pirates, please pirate I square I wasn't planning on selling you to the highest bidder at the local slave market, honest. or security personnel there to seize my ship and cash in the bounty on my head.

This is one of the examples, that there is more soul necessary in this game - the stories feels cold, people are only cargo.
I hope that someone will realize this sometime in the team and will put in just a little bit "life" in this cold environment, space stations without people, stories on an nerdy abstract layer. I love the setup, but hope for more life in my favorite game.

...... or your auntie, depending on his / her inclination ;)

Bob's your Auntie's live in lover.

I'd like to see "Iron Man Mode" implemented in game.
You get shot up:
1)- you lose your ship.
2) - You're stuck in an escape pod until you get picked up and taken to a station.

That at would give a range of play around Fuel Rats type nobility vs being taken and sold to the Empire or Archon Delaine. NPCs take ages to pick you up, but when they do, you have to restart from Harma or (wherever Arissa lives)
