Core feature improvement

There are always posts about missing or incomplete core features, a mile wide and an inch deep, etc - you know what I'm talking about. So what should be improved in your opinion? Regardless if something is already announced for 1.5/Season 2. Please try to be specific, instead of "better BGS" tell me what should be better about it.

HUD
- sorting function for missions
- in game HUD/GUI color changing options
- orbital lines with 3 states (on/off/on target body)
- show station orientation during SC in the hologram (helps with dropping out in front of the station)
- make it more convenient to scan ships during station approach (show station and ship simultaneously?)
- add (limited) padlock function for those without headtrack/VR
- better integration of galaxy map in main HUD
- different radar icon for docked ships
- ability to use more ship functions while beeing docked (scanner/radar)
- toggle for CQC rank display

CRIME
- intergalactic major faction/galaxy wide bounties
- galaxys most wanted list

NPC
- NPCs for hire (wings/crew/ship launched fighter)
- persistant NPCs
- communicate with NPCs (demand cargo, offer assistance, playful banter, etc...)
- audio communication from NPCs instead of/along with text
- spawn NPCs during hyper space transition instead of spawning them after we entered a system
- massive cargo ships
- cargo ship fleets with escorts on popular routes that can be hijacked

ECONOMY
- real production chains (e.g. if a system is low on copper, restock for computer components will slow down)
- better black markets (I want to buy stuff too)
- more lucrative/dangerous black market

GENERAL
- mini jumps to reach that second star in a system
- iron man
- thargoids
- salvage rights
- rewards for turning in an "occupied escape pod" rather than having to sell the poor soul over the black market in to whatever hellish future
- ship naming
- extra character accounts
- more life forms
- comets and asteroids, proper gravity effects for singularities etc
- ship evacuation sequence

STATIONS
- proper queues for busy stations rather than Docking Request Denied. "You are ship 4 of 9. You business IS important to us. Please hold...."
- as someone said in another post - faction state is literally just text. Station aesthetics should change depending on war/famine/lockdown, etcete
- getting missions in bars/lounges/interesting locations
- different rooms for station services - we already got that for outfitting, I want something similiar for the rest (naval office, market place etc.)
- wear and tear + damage and repair to stations etc
- capital ships should act like stations, let us land on them
- berthing costs (could be tied to faction reputation)
- external docking for huge ships

GALAXY/SYSTEM MAP
- orrey map
- round trip routing and saved trip planning
- search and highlight minor factions

MULTIPLAYER
- global chat
- IRC like channels (Elite Traders, Elite Bounty Hunters, Elite Miners, Elite Explorers, Help Request Channel, Fuel Rat channel, Rookie Channel etc.)

MINING
- make a geological society that buys interesting and unique minerals you encounter and bring back
- actual prospecting using sensors. We'll be able to do it on the surface with the wave scanner - why not in space

EXPLORATION
- an IN COCKPIT Exploration UI that brings up information about the distant target you are scanning. The closer you get the more information the bigger the reward for scanning it
- gas giant refueling
- advanced scanner shouldn't detect everything it should just have a large range (maybe it should give you a hint that there is more to explore?)
- make another tier scanner that involves actually flying your ship around looking for gravitational anomalies. Tie it in to the orrery map
- add some more unique and interesting things out there. Hire someone to come up with 1000 different ideas of odd things, objects

COMBAT
- ability to LOCK Gimbal and Turretets weapons into a fixed position
- add the CQC semi gimbals to the main game (doing less damage than fixed, but more than gimbal)

RANKING/FACTIONS
- a bad guys version of the pilots federation that includes ranking systems for pirates, assassins and smugglers
- better naval progression
- different city lights for major factions on inhabited planets
- let us sign up with the major factions

MISSIONS
- a handful of short, scripted missions with an evolving story
- escort & protect missions (counter mission locate and destroy)
- missions involving (blown up) cap ships :D
- station defense missions to intercept inbound pirates wings 20KM away
- ability to create you own bulletin missions, ability to arrange meetings in a location to form pirate wings, ability to hire NPC/player wingmen and escorts
- chained missions
- missions that dont just revolve around cargo or killing people - real spy missions, research missions, exploration missions, etc.

WAR/CONFLICT
- CZs around stations/inside RES- make war visible in the whole system

ENGINE
- DirectX 12 support (...)
- high resolution for more than one nebula

STORY
- more

SHIPS/MODULES
- better stealth mechanics and modules
- ability to dock/trade with other ships

That's all for now, I am sure I missed a lot but will update the list if you give me a hint.

EDIT: Updated!

Stuff that got added with 2.0/2.1:

- ability to scan signal sources
- auto-populate info tab with related messages e.g. salvageable wreckage identified nearby
- import duty based on government type to add more variety to commodity prices
- semi persistent POI (instead of random pop up USS give us specific points where we meet someone during a mission)
- bookmarks for stations/systems
- a reason to mine ice / rocky rings. Add some sought after resources there
- DirectX 11 support (yay!)
- 64 bit support (yay!)
- Occulus Rift support (current SDK)
- fix all RES

Stuff that got added with 2.1/2.2:

- ability to hand in bounties everywhere (e.g. a broker, he'll take 50% of the profits)
- CMDRs log (when did I rank up, where did I die etc.)
- ship transfer
- distress beacons for traders that can be used to summon local NPC police (no longer needed since authority response works quite well now)
- more life in and around stations, random small ships flying too and from planets (we cant fly to planets but some ships must do)
- more station variety
- rare gems, isotopes and other unique things that you encounter.
- the rare and unique items you mine are like finding a gold nugget and will be worth a lot of money
- passenger missions
- get rid of the fade in/out station interrior (letterbox)
- life support for cargo modules. They come in different classes (E=cargo, D=basic life support for slaves, C=economy class, B=business class, A=luxury class)

Ooh I like the Bounty Broker idea. But not 50%, maybe 25%.

Persistent NPCs - I wanna chase a fugitive around the galaxy!
Walk around the station/planets
Getting missions in bars/lounges/interesting locations
Communicate with NPCs (demand cargo, offer assistance, playful banter, etc...)
Audio communication from NPCs instead of/along with text.

I think I like everything in your list except in-system jumps. Not that I would complain if FD decided that was important to them, but I'm very meh on that one.

Ooh I like the Bounty Broker idea. But not 50%, maybe 25%.

The Amount the Broker charges should be based on the distance you would have to travel to claim your bounty... ie. I would not pay 25% if it's one jump away , but if it's 15 jumps , then it's worth my time.

CRIME
- intergalactic bounties

Seems pointless, since there is only a single galaxy in the game. :p

Depends on interpretation... I took it to mean that you wouldn't need to get a mission in a particular system for bounty hunting. Like the old "most wanted" list in stations (do they still have that anymore?), only galaxy-wide (filterable by distance from location and bounty value).

Imagine if Jabba the Hut could only have advertised the bounty on Han in Tatooine? I know it had the most wretched hive of scum and villainy, but it never hurts to advertise outside your home town!

Edit: Oh yeah, intergalactic means "between galaxies". I was reading it as "galaxy-wide" :D

The devs said a while back(around June) they were planning on adding faction-wide 'interstellar' bounties to the game...not heard anything about it lately though.

I personally would like to see a bad guys version of the pilots federation that includes ranking systems for pirates, assassins and smugglers.

HUD

* Love the hotkey for Orbital Lines On/Off. One of my requests back when the on/off option was introduced, was to have 3 states. On/Off/On Target body. Some times I just want to know the orbit of the station I am flying to for approach purposes.
* Have separate targets for ships and stations/bodies.

ECONOMY

* More lucrative/dangerous black market.
* Salvage rights.
* Rewards for turning in an "occupied escape pod" rather than having to sell the poor soul over the black market in to whatever hellish future.

Stations

* Proper queues for busy stations rather than Docking Request Denied. "You are ship 4 of 9. You business IS important to us. Please hold...."
* As someone said in another post - faction state is literally just text. Station aesthetics should change depending on war/famine/lockdown, etcetera

Although I think the "mile wide inch deep" thing is slowly becoming out of date (the game has a significantly higher level of detail and more things to do than when that was first coined), that's a really decent list there, babelfisch.

A lot of those would greatly increase the quality of life in the game.

+rep.

It should be said though, quality of life =! things to do. These are mostly just good things we hope get done. And I've seen Sandro say FD agree with several on that list.

The way FD seem to work is each new content patch has a varying number of QOL changes.

Here are a few obvious ones...

- Round trip routing and saved trip planning.
- Ship naming.
- Extra character accounts for up to 15 USD/10 GBP each. (Shouldn't cost more than an extra copy of the game, which can be purchased from FD for that price in certain circumstances.)
- In game HUD/GUI color changing options.

Global Chat, for God's sake!

And this^ chat's sub channels, like:

- Elite Traders
- Elite Bounty Hunters
- Elite Miners
- Elite Explorers
- Help Request Channel
- Fuel Rat channel
- Rookie Channel

This would make game feel little better and would allow people make discuss/ask for help/advice and etc in-game without need to go to reddit or forums.

ECONOMY
- Import duty based on government type to add more variety to commodity prices.

FSD TRAVEL
- Nav beacons are now used for hyperspace navigation. No changes for systems that have them, but jumping to one without a nav beacon places you x thousand LS away from the body with the highest mass dependent on the class of the FSD and a slider to determine accuracy.

- 'Nav beacon lock' can be toggled off allowing you to jump into a system as if it did not have a nav beacon.

- 'Frame Shift Blockade' - Systems in lockdown or under siege can now be blockaded with an (NPC) Interdiction Field of x LS radius around the nav beacon pulling any ship that jumps into the system out of SC.

- 'Hypercruise' - Allows a ship to travel to a body of significant mass through a targeting tunnel in a frame shift interdiction type 'mini-game'. Deviate from the correct path and the ship will drop from Hypercruise taking significant damage to hull and systems.

OUTFITTING
- Power Plant - Percentage chance when they explode to create an EM pulse with a range and strength determined by the power plant's size and class. Ships caught in the EMP pulse will take little or no damage to shields or hull, but will cause multiple modules to malfunction.

- Energy Bomb - EM pulse weapon with the same effects as above in addition to being applied to the detonating ship.

- EM Hardened Bulkhead or Hull Reinforcement - Provides some mitigation to EM pulses and Cytoscrambler.

HUD
- bookmarks for stations/systems (MUST HAVE)
- sorting function for missions
- orrey map (MUST HAVE)

CRIME
- intergalactic bounties
- ability to hand in bounties everywhere (e.g. a broker, he'll take 50% of the profits) (Also recommended this)
- galaxys most wanted list (this would be fun to have)

ECONOMY
- real production chains (e.g. if a system is low on copper, restock for computer components will slow down) (A little X would be great for this game)
- better black markets (I want to buy stuff too) (This has been another thing missing that makes me scratch my head as it would be easy to do)

GENERAL
- NPCs for hire (wings/crew/ship launched fighter)
- CMDRs log (when did I rank up, where did I die etc.) (I thought this was promised in kickstarter and would have been great to go through the galaxy map to see everywhere you went in your career)
- semi persistent POI (instead of random pop up USS give us specific points where we meet someone during a mission)
- different rooms for station services - we already got that for outfitting, I want something similiar for the rest (naval office, market place etc.) (That'll come in time once we can walk around)
- CZs around stations/inside RES
- mini jumps to reach that second star in a system (they said they wont do this)
- iron man (I'm already doing that.. 0 deaths since launch.. if I die I restart maybe)
- ship transfer
- thargoids

That's all for now, I am sure I missed a lot but will update the list if you give me a hint.

Wonder why it doesn't accept my quotes as characters... I need to type something here for it to accept my post.. ^^^^^

I want to view a stations Commodities and outfitting without having to dock. Could save lots of time.

My changes off the top of my head.. but I'd have hundreds..

Mining
Rare gems, isotopes and other unique things that you encounter.
Make a geological society that buys interesting and unique minerals you encounter and bring back.
The rare and unique items you mine are like finding a gold nugget and will be worth a lot of money. Example - finding meteorites on Earth are worth more than gold even though they are just nickel/iron. People pay big money for slices of them.
A reason to mine ice / rocky rings. Add some sought after resources there.
Actual prospecting using sensors. We'll be able to do it on the surface with the wave scanner - why not in space?

Exploration
Orrery is a must have
An IN COCKPIT Exploration UI that brings up information about the distant target you are scanning. The closer you get the more information the bigger the reward for scanning it.
Gas giant refueling
Advanced scanner shouldn't detect everything it should just have a large range.
Make another tier scanner that involves actually flying your ship around looking for gravitational anomalies. Tie it in to the orrery map.
Make exploration EXPLORATION not just pressing a gong button.
Add some more unique and interesting things out there. Hire someone to come up with 1000 different ideas of odd things, objects. Model them and scatter them. Make it extremely rewarding to sell that information.
There needs to be an allure to go out there to find things no man has seen before and profit greatly for it.

Combat

I think they are improving this once they introduce crafting it will make outfitting and combat more interesting.
Ability to LOCK Gimbal and Turretets weapons into a fixed position.
Rotating and re positioning your shields. (like if you are running or going head on etc)

This is just off the top of my head. But we know they are working on missions and expanding on that. We really need exploration and more mining missions as well. We need trading interface that actually is sortable, with graphs and specifics, including the prices of recently visted systems. I'm not trying to obsolete 3rd party sites but seriously how hard could it be to get prices wirelessly from outside a station or to keep stats in station?

Global Chat, for God's sake!

I've always felt not bothered about having global chat in the game but the way you describe it here makes me think it's a good idea for the first time.

+1 for global chat as described here

OP updated. I didn't add every suggestion, some are more of a balancing nature or are not core features (I want to be able to walk around stations too, however we all know that this will be an expansion). Also there are some suggestions where I am not sure everybody will agree with.

The Amount the Broker charges should be based on the distance you would have to travel to claim your bounty... ie. I would not pay 25% if it's one jump away , but if it's 15 jumps , then it's worth my time.

I like the idea, but I think this will be hard to implement.

Seems pointless, since there is only a single galaxy in the game. :p

Sorry, bad wording... changed it, thanks!

What would be really cool is if they added a suggestions sub board to the for....

oh, wait.

I know the suggestion board. However I would like to get a comprehensive list and discuss it. Not every item on that list is a mere suggestion, but something people expect to be in the game at some point.

ECONOMY
- Import duty based on government type to add more variety to commodity prices.

FSD TRAVEL

Good ideas, but I am not sure everybody would be happy with them.
