General / Off-Topic Terror attack in Paris, 13/11/2015

Just saying. I'll buy two... one for me and one for my son. I don't usually fly the Viper but if you donate the proceeds to charity I'll put my dollars on it.

Absolutely agree. I will do the same

Edit: In fact - I'd like FD to check which of their commanders reside in France - and give them the French flag paintjob for free. Alternatively, I'll be happy buy one for myself and donate one to a French commander. Solidarité!

Pls, no politics here ...
:(
Sad as the events in Paris are, please don't bring the real world here. This is a place for escapism. :)
:(
If you think with your heart then obviously you'd agree we should do as the OP suggests. If you think with your head you'd realise the number of causes followed would be innumerable. Should we create a Syrian flag and donate to the refugees? Should we create flags for the African nations ravaged by terrorist groups, or Yemmen/Middle east?

It would be endless, and frankly I come to video games to escape the real world as bad as it may sound I don't want reminders of how terrible this world is. If people wish to donate to the French victims and their families and help support them through this horrific time thats great, amazing in fact and they shouldn't ever be dissuaded from trying to help people, but I don't think this is the right way to do it.

Sure. I'll buy a French flag, a Syrian flag, a Palestinian flag, a Libyan flag for my ship. It sucks that we feel the need to escape the "real world", but this doesn't mean we can't be thankful that we have the capacity to escape - hence, this is what drives me (a privileged person) to give what I can, whenever I can.

There are people who play Elite: Dangerous - in our community - who are from Paris. Some of these commanders may have suffered a great personal loss in the past 48 hours. Lets just spare a thought for them - they're the ones who deserve escapism. Will it ameliorate their loss? Hardly. :(

I would like to express my sincerest condolences to all of our French Commanders and player groups. I wish you the best in this current time of turmoil, hope no evil befell any of you individually and pray for safe flying for those of you who remain with us and for those who have recently departed.

Merci/Thank you very much Commanders for your thoughts about the victims and the french people.
Your kind words are very appreciated. Really, much appreciated.

I live Less then 14 kms from Paris. I know these places very well, like all the people who live in Paris do.
I've got family who lives where it took place.
There is no word strong enough I can use to describe how I feel about those terror attacks in Paris.
I feel for the victims and their family and friends.
I really hope we will not give up. We must fight for what we believe.
La liberté et toutes nos autres valeurs ne sont pas négociables !

I just woke up after a 24-hours marathon of Fallout 4 to learn what happened in Paris and I'm shocked. It is so little that I can do and I hate that feeling of helplessness, so at least let me express to you my deepest sympathy and condolence. Je suis Paris.

I would like to thank the international community for its friendship & support messages,
for its thoughts & prayers, in regard the events in our country and more specialy in Paris.
We will always keep in memory, victims and their family.

In this week-end, the mood to play... is gone away.
...Our way of life is attacked. They try to impose us a different way.

But, we are what we are. Nothing cannot change our souls.
We do not stop, in honor of those who fell.
We will stand firm and never give up !

The world is not at fault, it's the primate habitants with the firm belief that we have a spare one.

My father grew up in Paris. My thoughts to you all.

WALEED Aly has unleashed on Australia’s politicians and Muslim leaders who have preached “hate” in the wake of the Paris attacks saying their actions actually help Islamic State rather than defeat them.
The Project co-host used his regular ‘Something we should talk about’ segment to not only call for solidarity following the atrocity, which left 132 people dead and hundreds more injured, but to highlight what he says is the truth about the militant organisation — that they’re weak.
“There is a reason ISIL still want to appear so powerful, why they don’t want to acknowledge that the land they control has been taken from weak enemies, that they are pinned down by air strikes or that just last weekend they lost a significant part of their territory,” he said on The Project.
“ISIL don’t want you to know they would quickly be crushed if they ever faced a proper Army on a battlefield.
“They want you to fear them. They want you to get angry. They want all of us to become hostile and here is why:
“ISIL’s strategy is to split the world into two camps. It is that black and white. Again we know this because they told us.”
Ally said ISIL wanted to create World War III, and for societies around the world to turn on each other, and for countries like Australia to vilify Muslims.

Just watched the video of wembly :)

My daughter has a friend who was eating at a restaurant directly across the road from the one that was attacked.

He saw those people being killed.

Remember that these acts are never as far from us as we might think, but also remember that they are totally ineffective if we do not let them sway us.
