You're correct. But with TCE there's no alt tab out required at all. Ever. Don't know how it's done but it is a bit more integrated feeling.

I think I may have coloured your thoughts on this by just mentioning alt-TAB :)

As mungler points out, you can click the CL "icon" at the top left corner to unfurl it.

What you seem to be looking for is automatic detection of the mouse cursor being over that icon and CL will unfurl at that point.

This, I think, should be achievable. But I'll make it optional - the reason I decided not to do this originally, was because I didn't want CL to unfurl to its full size at times when it is NOT needed - as the mouse cursor moves all over the place during playing of E: D - at least it does for me, as I use the mouse frequently when exploring or when using the headlook. You may not see the mouse cursor most of the time, but it's there moving around the screen invisibly. Now imagine what happens when that invisible mouse cursor moves over the CL icon - up pops the full window. :)

That's why I made the CL icon clickable - it brings CL into input focus and triggers the unfurling routine.

curse you and your sneaky vengeance. There I was 'lazily' marking bodies like a cat with cream and a ball of string. I have a little break and come back later for another 'xploring session and that's when you got me. The lazy mode button is so excellently lazy, it can't be bothered to stay on across CL sessions. I have to actually expend more energy to click it on again every time I play. You win Genar-Hofoen, I am beaten....

p.s. would it be possible to make the awesome setting persist? ;)

I did consider expending the extra 40-50 minutes it'd take to have that option saved (as well as Fast Mode), then make sure it's safely loaded again.

But by the time I'd finished adding those features and wanted make a release, I felt too lazy to do it ;)

When I get the energy to make another release of CL, I'll see about making that persistent.

Yes it's merely a mistake in the text description. It happened because I was copying other icons and text when I was making the program - there's a LOT of stuff to do to make a program like this :)

Just ignore it for now.

Is it just me or is the CL program running less smoothly & slow. Iv noticed in the last couple of days it's taking ages to input a body in the System Bodies tab & the screen size sometimes jumps when a body is added.

It's not as smooth as before.

The version hasn't changed since a couple of weeks now. So I don't think it's anything to do with CL - doesn't initially sound helpful I know - although it could be helpful in diagnosing if Something Else Is Happening :)

Sounds to me like something may be happening with your hardware. Whilst everything is running, check your CPU and GPU usage, temperatures etc.

Lastly, if you do notice something like that, try restarting CL and see if you notice a difference after that, and get back to me if you do.

The only thing that's changed since it was running ok is the 1.5 Beta Update....but I'm not even involved with that, so that can't be it....I'll keep looking
 
My PC HDD died (got that fixed) and I am working at reinstalling CL. I receive the following error after putting in the locations during setup. I have ED through Steam (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Logs and C:\Program Files (x86)\Captain's Log).

Looks like it couldn't create a file. Permissions? Try running CL as Administrator.

No dice still getting the same error.

Hmmm.

Try browsing to %LOCALAPPDATA% , then remove the folder CaptainsLog


This will clear the configuration and you can try configuring it from scratch again. Without physically having a look at your PC it's very difficult to see/know what's going on.

Which version of Windows are you using, incidentally?

Using CL with the Betas wasn't a use-case I'd intended or thought much about. In fact the last time I tested, way back in 1.1 or 1.2, it appeared that the entry for jumping to a new system wasn't included in that beta, so basically it was a case of 'not using CL whilst playing betas' and I completely left it out of my mind - as to me there's no point in using it with the betas because any progress you make in a Beta will be lost when the beta ends :)

Anyway. Try going to the ED game folder for the live version, and removing AppConfigLocal.xml - if you don't wish to do that manually, it'll be removed by the launcher, if you use the launcher's Validate Game Files option in the launcher. That's under Options​ in the launcher after logging in.

Thank you for your quick reply, that was fast! Ok, I went to C:\g\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010 and there was a file AppConfigLocal.xml. I deleted it. No change, though. Same error. Is there anything I can try now? I tried re-installing CL, to no avail.
 
Hey. I investigated the Logs directory and noticed something that wasn't there before. I file named ".log". Just the extension, no name part at all. This must be the reason, right? I submitted a beta bug report yesterday. I must have screwed up the log myself or something.

+ Edit: Removing it didn't help at all. It contained a port mapping error report: GetPortMapping(55505) failed with code 402 (Invalid Args). I don't think it has anything to do with CL.

The only thing I can suggest is Validate Game Files in the launcher. I'd have to run the uncompiled source code on your PC to see what the problem was - but it looks suspiciously like the AppConfig.xml in the game folder is badly formatted.
